It's the age old reality TV tradition of "once you switch to a celebrity format you never go back (until you reboot the series several years after a hiatus)." TARAU is going to have the weirdest string of TAR seasons of any franchise once it's over. Two civilian on Channel 7 by Michael Mackay. One season produced in-house by Channel 7. A season produced by Eureka over on Channel 10 several years later. A domestic season with 16 teams. A season where half of the teams and the host miss out on chunks of the season in a 20-team season. A celebrity season strictly around South Asia. And now another celebrity season next year.

Apparently Beau Ryan is hosting two other shows in addition to TARAU next year for Channel 10 too.

Apparently Beau Ryan is hosting two other shows in addition to TARAU next year for Channel 10 too.

Yes, local versions of Gladiators and Top Gear (for the affiliated Streaming Channel, Paramount+, and he is co-hosting that with Aus Survivor host Jonathan LaPaglia).

Never knew that Top Gear Australia is making a return! I’m a fan of both Top Gear and The Amazing Race, so it’ll be interesting to see Beau talking about cars, lol

It was only formally announced today (I think a few sites had reported on rumours, but even those rumours were only reported on in the last few weeks and didn’t have any host rumours).

I will be curious to watch. I loved the May, Hammond, and Clarkson line-up on Top Gear (and their Amazon spin-off); they had great chemistry as three passionate revheads and cheeky mates driving cool cars and cocking up.

But the format struggles when the chemistry is lacking (the original Aussie version of TG and all the post-HMC lineups of UK Top Gear) - and while I want to be optimistic to see it succeed, getting two guys who are already network personalities, along with a 3rd wheel (who looks to be a diehard revhead), makes me doubt if the show can work because the chemistry may not be there.

As someone nostalgic for Top Gear, I hope to be proven wrong.

I enjoyed Shane Jacobson and Steve Pizzati on the original version of Top Gear Australia. Hopefully Beau and Jonathan will provide a good mateship on the revamped version.

Hopefully it will be a strong as this season is. Network 10 is thankfully learning from their mistakes. Hope the celeb seasons are successful enough that they might bring back a "normal" person season too.

If celebrity seasons are successful they would likely never go back for ratings

I'm honestly very okay with that. This season has been pretty solid, and with a lot less complaints online than the last two seasons have had with civilian casts and forced twists (and COVID). If this is the path to more TARAU, then that's really not the worst way of going about it.

I've said it for the other TAR franchises as well-- when you have 'celebrities' on, no matter if they're actual celebrities or social media influencers, you have casts that are at a low level of camera-readiness, so you sacrifice a little of the down-to-earth for people who can conduct themselves clearly in an interview for the sake of better content. The race has changed in twenty years because society has changed over twenty years. Networks are much less likely to cast non-celebs/influencers by nature of there simply being less people that are disconnected.

Besides which, half of the celebs cast isn't even celebs-- they're relatives of celebs.

The last 2 seasons were less popular…but not because of the civilian casts. It was poor production choices, Covid and ridiculous twists and terrible time penalties. This season feels more back to basics and is a success because of its production and not because it has celebs.

Australian reality shows with celebrities are short but most civilian seasons and all modern Australian survivor seasons are 24 episodes. With celebrities it makes it more tempting to have less episodes.

Yay!!

Honestly I’m happy with this especially for an Australian show. Most non celebrity Australian shows are too many episodes with barely any people that stand-out. If they pick the right people it could be an all-time great season.

I hope for Channel 7 but this is okay I guess.

This season is one of the better seasons of the Network 10 iteration of TAR Australia.

[–]alphacite75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't let Nine Network "RUSH" for it.

[–]jedrevolutia 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I want Phil Keoghan to join as one of the celebrity racers. Is is possible? I mean technically he's a Kiwi.

[–]Apple_Slipper[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Probably yeah. Darren is originally from Scotland, UK and lives in Australia. Harry is Aussie and currently lives in Los Angeles, CA. Phil probably could join.

I would love to see Phil do the Race in another franchise just like I'd love to see Jeff Probst do Australian Survivor! 😂 /gen

Jackie o is on with her daughter

There's something about Network 10's TAR franchise that makes it so... difficult to recommend to family & friends. It's a different setback every season.

But as a big fan myself, I'm just glad that there's another season to TAR Australia than none at all.

I have no problems with this season 1 celeb cast. They did cast teams that were willing to compete and there has been a lot of placement swapping with various types of tasks. I’ve been enjoying this season a lot and honestly, it’s been better than the US season airing alongside it right now.

As an American, I literally only recognized George since I’ve seen Survivor AU (and he’s not even a real celeb?) and I only knew Harry by name. They’re practically all “normal people” to me lol - especially when most of the duos only had 1 person who has actually been in the spotlight. Might be different if both team members had to be “celebs.”

[–]Apple_Slipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are celebrities, but they are the celebrities that mainly just Aussies would know, apart from George.

[–]ianthebalance 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I can’t wait for all those mid celebrities and 3 countries

[–]alphacite75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either Europe and/or Southern Africa, or a South America edition?

If it's anything like this season, it's celebs and a partner, most of whom this time were family members or spouses. Generally it's never two celebrities mashed together.

    [–]barbif 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I enjoyed the Celebrity Amazing Race & am looking forward to next year's season. So glad Darren & Tristan won & so great they shared the win with the other teams. Would love to see Darren host a show too. He stepped in last time (when Bo had Covid) & he was really good .. also loved him on Celeb Apprentice 🙏

    [–]Specific_Seat_7056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was Scott Tweedie, not Darren

    Also it's Beau* lol

Any idea how we can watch from the states?

    [–]jedrevolutia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Network 10 Australia app/website and use your VPN to watch.
