They’re not going anywhere any time soon. They are being expanded if anything… (in VIC I mean)

What supplements do you use to boost immunity (not get sick)? by MrSillyBilly in AustralianTeachers

[–]Rough-Candidate-9791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Maybe it’s placebo effect, I don’t care. I started taking these and I stopped getting colds (previously it seemed like one every 3 weeks). Haven’t had a serious cold since starting them.

Sorry for a random comment so long after, but wondering how it turned out for you? I’m almost 2 weeks post op and lumpy at the moment. Did yours heal up ok?

The accreditation for being a pilot is extremely full on and ongoing, requiring hundreds if not thousands of hours’ training depending on the aircraft and employer requirements. It is not a three-year-and-done course. Source: I am a teacher and my brother is a pilot.

Very kind of you to say, thank you! I learned it from a mentor and it was really powerful.

I’ve been there. I started the term afresh and spoke to the class about what had happened, what I’d noticed and acknowledged the role I played in that. I’ve them linked it into how that will impact their learning and why I’m concerned about it continuing. That’s then a springboard to explain my new, clear expectations that are all pretty simple - usually they can be boiled down to maximising learning through minimal disruption, which encompasses basically all behaviour. I created a new seating plan too, though these were the norm at my previous school.

Then I stick true to the expectations but really, really focus my attention on the kids doing well and doing the right thing (usually they have been the whole time anyway). This can be applied to the whole class too - It’s important to acknowledge when the class are doing the right thing. If possible, focus more on the positives than the negatives. It’s hard!

Good luck, it sucks, I will be honest that it’s happened to me twice early on - once I won them back, the other time I never did.

ETA - if your school has a behaviour management framework, use it and use it religiously. It will keep you consistent. Saved my butt when I was in your situation. If you don’t have one, make a clear escalation protocol for your class and explain it to them, then follow it.

Why were we all educated in temporary buildings? by Flashy-Amount626 in AusMemes

I teach in these about 80% of the time! We have about 30 portables and my staff room is even in one.

“That could have been my daughter” was an interesting comment. Does she think her daughter might behave the way those boys did?

Do kids still have to read this in schools today? by Cold_Pomelo3274 in AustralianNostalgia

Yeah I was responding as a Victorian as the above commenter mentioned VCE.

Year 12 only; 7-10 is entirely school choice, 11 is also school choice but there are some parameters placed around things like text types and variety in the course. EDIT - and there are a range of texts schools can choose from at Year 12 too, VCAA provides a list.

Do kids still have to read this in schools today? by Cold_Pomelo3274 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Rough-Candidate-9791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Teaching it next term in fact! I’m not convinced it’s the best text choice for 2023 Australian high school students but it is undeniably a classic. I also taught it at my previous school and the students responded very strongly to the themes and ideas but struggled massively with the complexity of language and some contextual aspects.

Booked through 13CABS app - does “requested” mean approved? by Rough-Candidate-9791 in melbourne

Thanks for that. I tried calling the number but it just wanted me to say an address to be dropped off at, there was no option to speak to someone about my booking.

VIC Teachers, anyone turned a Unit 1/2 unit into a Year 9/10 elective? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Rough-Candidate-9791 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I this for psych, and also covered some “fun” topics or ideas that aren’t in the VCE course in detail. It worked well. The biggest thing is to think about the kinds of activities you can run at 9/10 that you can’t necessarily do at VCE - long games or collaborative tasks for example. I would suggest you look at the critical and creative thinking capability rubric, too for ideas. Also worth knowing if it’s a semester elective- if so, you really only need about 15-18 weeks worth of content.

I’m 3 weeks in and I already want out by Not_so_NB in AustralianTeachers

[–]Rough-Candidate-9791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have felt similar to this in a career before teaching, and I wish I had left before I did - ultimately I was anxious, burnt out and in weekly therapy (nothing wrong with that, but it reflected a huge decline in my mental health). If you can, honestly, just leave. Get some work elsewhere- you may never even have to tell them about this very short stint elsewhere.

Do we need to save Jess? by Best-Window-2879 in TheBachelor_AU

This is a solid interpretation IMO. I was struggling to make sense of it but your comment sums it up perfectly. I also think they are “spiritually” codependent which could definitely be an abuse tactic, just a different one.

Tonight’s episode made me uncomfortable. I know it is highly edited but I did get the sense tonight that perhaps she is more of a victim in this situation than it has been made to appear. Hurt people hurt people and I wonder if that’s what’s caused her to be very up and down with Felix. If the case, I hope she receives support.

Vic context. Depends on your role. I worked as a CP2 (support practitioner, do not hold your own cases, no qualifications generally needed) both part time and casually, and also fulltime CP3 (entry level “full” CP practitioner who holds cases, relevant qualifications needed) a few years ago. As a CP3 I believe I was on mid to high 70s but did so much overtime it became kind of a blur. I think with overtime I ended up around mid to high 80k. Approx 55k FTE for CP2 from memory?

I imagine if you go to your state’s relevant jobs portal, you will be able to find a CP job (because they literally are always hiring everywhere lol) with a salary range. You can negotiate within that range.

If you are interested in the field it is also work considering non-profits. They generally have better retention and much better salary packaging options.
