no nik muk no tin lik…

Gnarly animated GIF…what’s there to say about the original Frankenstein movie. Lots I suppose, there’s probably books about books on the topic. Monster. I’ve been a monster. A monster created by circumstances, shit I was born with and shit I chose to do. That’s life. I Know I was ‘that’ guy when I was drinking, liquid courage is what we called it. Wannabe brawler and slut. A decaying fish. This song reminds me a bit of those days (if only I had listened to the lesson it had for me when I was first listening to it in the early 80s…hahahah, no use cryin’ over spilt milk)…
Get your bravery from a six pack
Get your bravery from a half-pint
Drink your whiskey, drink your grain
Bottoms up, and you don’t feel pain
Drink your whiskey, drink your grain
Bottoms up, and you don’t feel pain
Go out and fight, fight!
Go out and fight, fight!
Go out and fight, fight!
Go out and fight!
Bottled violence!
Lose control of your body
Beat the shit out of somebody
Half-shut eyes don’t see who you hit
You don’t take any shit!
Half-shut eyes don’t see who you hit
You don’t take any shit!
Go out and fight, fight!
Go out and fight, fight!
Go out and fight, fight!
Go out and fight!
Bottled violence!
Go out and fight, fight!
Go out and fight, fight!
Go out and fight, fight!
Go out and fight!
Bottled violence!

My dry docked sailor pal, Brian came through on a request of mine…if you could only have three, which CDs would you have in your car? His three…
Primus live in Eureka ‘94 (I saw them several years earlier in McKinleyville (89?) if I’m not mistaken, wasn’t in the right head space to appreciate them at the time…now’s a different story)
The Accused- return of Martha Splatterhead (an example of an outstanding album that I do not own)
Jesus Lizard – Goat (another example of an outstanding album that I do not own. It was Ed Cole who go me into those guys.)
“Those are 3 of the 6 I have currently (haven’t changed them for some years, who remembers CDs anymore. Spotify, man!).”  Thanx B!

Kinda in a funk right now, fighting something health wise, ongoing troubles with the back, missing Mom and just feeling a little blue (what’s new), but believe me, I’d rather be Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On

Along those lines and speaking of the Primus show in ’89, our good buddy Ed Cole was in the band No Nik Muk To Tin Lik and they opened up that show if I’m not mistaken. Humboldt funk punk, from some youngins way back when, fucking love it (perhaps I can get Ed to give some back round on the band, like a politician in front of the grand jury, I remember nothing)!

My pal the Minnesota gutter trout…

My cousin Christopher Gosselin took this vid yesterday (I converted it to an animated gif, which made it lose some of the wow factor).  That’s my Aunt and Uncle’s place down below there, about three miles South of the sprawling metropolis of Bogue (pop. 141). Bogue is where my Mom’s place is (RIP Mom & Aunt Donna) and then my spread is 5 miles away, outside the similarly sprawling metropolis of Damar (pop. 130).  This particular storm dumped rain and pea size hail for about 30 minutes so not a real ball buster but it did put on a show.  I must admit I am a bit intimidated at times by our epic thunderstorms and as far as tornadoes go, a little fear.  Asked a buddy from here what was more fearsome to him, an earthquake or a tornado.  He quickly said earthquake and sited it’s unpredictability and wide spread damage.  No stranger to earthquakes myself, having been a California native and resident for something like 34 years, they don’t bother me, but I recognize and respect their awesome power.  I guess he grew up with tornadoes as I did earthquakes, so they are similarly familiar forces of nature and commonplace enough, that we’ve been desensitized.  I like that word, desensitized (perhaps a good band name), a common human condition.  I’d like to expand on that at some point in the future, but as usual I digress…

99 Luftballoons! 1983 and very little has changed. Not sure why I made the gif or if it has any other meaning here than to be reminiscent of a music moment many of us can relate to. Somebody I relate to heavily, my old college pal and long time Mustard Relic, Shawn. He was the only one to respond to my query regarding which 3 CDs off the top of your head you would stick in your vehicle… “I think I’d be in the mood for
Slayer Undisputed Attitude (Slayer covers of some classics and they tear them the fuck up, but you have to wonder when an artist gets so tired of doing their own thing that they resort to a covers album.  Like I said though Slayer slays these tunes, and they aren’t karaoke covers lamely trying to sound like the original, they put their own spin on these songs.)
Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill (Classic! Reminds me of hanging out on the weekends in the Tommy’s Burgers parking lot in Burbank with my chums, mid 80s.  To this  one of the best concerts I ever went to was the Beastie Boys and Bad Brains in 1994)
the Offspring – Smash (Oddly enough, even though I’ve heard of them for years the only song I remember hearing is Gotta Get Away, one of their hits from this album)

I asked my best Kansas friend (“friends” are few and far between here), the illustrious Darryl Clark (him New Years 2016 with our exchange students Adrian and Kevin) what three CDs he would have in his truck.  He suggested that he doesn’t have any in his truck now and only owns 6 CDs anyway…hahahaahh (Not a music lover like his pal Mustard but he is a Relic nonetheless). Interestingly enough, or not, he has a CD of Tina Turner covering country/western classics, I wonder if she slays em like Slayer). Anyway, switched up my 3 in the 4×4…
SPK – Auto-Da-Fé (No brainer, some of the most punk fucking rock tunes ever composed.)
Christ On Parade – Insanity is a Sane Reaction (One of those bands that I had every opportunity to see back in the day, but didn’t, real bummer. I was talking to one of our exchange students about that, big or small, not having regrets. He’s a god kid a bit spoiled though and doesn’t appreciate my wisdom, or at least the wisdom I think I have. You gotta have some don’t you, after 49 some years off and on again shit?)
NYC Mayhem – The Metal Days / The Crossover Days (They shamefully don’t have that particular discography(?) on you fucking tube. If you like pivotal original hard music that has a solid place in the history of classic bands look to further than NYC Mayhem.  I got the audio for this vid on a traded cassette not long after it was recorded. Just discovered this thing and it’s badass, I fucking love seeing the video for a treasured tape that I’ve had for over 30 years…sick-ness! And I had no clue that the drummer was the vocalist, dude is a maniacal machine.

My dear pal and cutie, Jenny Davis and I, circa 92(?) in a proto-selfie. I shared the pic with her, “Look at that picture of us— we were babies!!!  Holy shit.  You know, that picture was a total primitive selfie. Remember how hard it was to take a picture of yourself before cameras had screens? And then you had to wait until the film was developed to see if you even got the shot right… damn. Kids these days have it so easy!”

Let’s finish this with a Christ on Parade live set (that I could easily have gone to)…

p.s. In case you need inspiration to comment, here’s a typical spambot comment…
“There are incredibly lots of details that adheres to that take into consideration. That is a fantastic denote raise up. I provde the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly you will find questions like the one you raise up the place that the most crucial factor will likely be working in honest good faith. I don?t determine if guidelines have emerged about things such as that, but I know that a job is clearly recognized as a good game. Both youngsters glance at the impact of a little moment’s pleasure, through out their lives.”

Mustard Relics Super Sabado Gigante Mega Armageddon Death

It’s about time for another Mustard Relics Super Sabado Gigante Mega Armageddon Death post (stick that mic in your mouth and breathe heavy now)…
So when you use WordPress you have this dashboard thing that has all types of functions you can do with the blog…one of them is stats. Lotsa things stats can do, one of them is to let me know that as of 8pm this evening I have had zero hits…hahahaah. Not terribly concerned with that, but I like to check out the stats of where people are coming from in the world (most in search of the legendary lost complete set of real Napalm Death demos from prior to Scum). Where ever you’re from you’re welcome here. As my long quiet friend Fernando of Spain pointed out, MR is something of a music Cafe, or at least I wanted it to be back during the blogging craze of a decade ago. Coffee, cigarettes and music…chill. No matter where you call home know that we here in the USA are not all idiots, shooting themselves in the foot, complaining about the terrible pain. My problems, I recognize as a first world problems, but I have visited the pit of misery and I don’t mind sharing that every now and again. Today I hope that in the place you call home you are one of the chill ones, the forward thinkers who want to leave a better planet for our (and all) children. Givers, protectors of life.  Those who only take what they can use and share in any abundance. And..blah blah blah…you know what I’m talking about if you’re in the know

I cut myself off from buying records until I get some kind of storage system built into my office, but these were my last scores. Mostly boots. Tryna think what’s on my playlist lately though. If it’s about what’s in my truck (yes the new truck has a CD player thank God, but there’s no place to store them, humph), they’re all in my top ten list…
Crass – Feeding of the 5000
Killdozer – 12 Point Buck
The Mob – Let The Tribe Increase
If you could only have three in your ride, what would you pick, I mean really of all the dilemmas that you could face in this privileged existence? Below is the three that I christened the truck with last week…
Leaping Frog – Various Artist (this was a CD that was always in my truck during the drunken debauchery that was my final years in San Diego, the truck was stolen and never recovered, but somehow I have disc…I only listen to the second half)
Lord Ellis – Mouth of the Mad (brand fucking new heavy rocking superbness from my old college chums in Humboldt County California…fucking get it…REVIEW!)
Hau – Brilliant Gospel Alibi (my virtual pals from Greece, doing their usual dirty work of brutalizing your ears with some of the best modern industrial out there…REVIEW).

If you get a chance to see the almighty WEEDEATER, who seem to be constantly on tour (I will hopefully be going to this show), go fucking see ’em, I’m willing to drive 4 hours to see them again…

I haven’t been reading much of anything lately, go through fazes like that. Music is my first love, thanx to my Mom (in utero), but I attribute my second love, that of reading, to my 4th grade teacher Mrs Schults. I don’t remember anything about her except that she was nice (meaning, some of the teachers I remember would give you a knuckle to the head if you weren’t paying attention) and she read the entire Narnia series to us. She was so captivating the way she read and the entire class was caught up in the story (of course C.S. Lewis I came to later find out was a serious ass wipe).  After that I was a reading fiend (ironically the year I discovered punk rock), mostly fantasy and science fiction, I fucking devoured books. Mom would have to tell me to turn out the lights and get some sleep otherwise I’d read through to the wee hours of the morning).  My virtual buddy Michael Essington sent me a digital copy of his latest book a while back. I’ve reviewed every one of his books so far, before that followed his blogging and he was one of my inspirations for starting my own blog, way back when. Like I said though, not feeling the reading thing, right now. Maybe it’s the digital thing, maybe I’ll pint it off at work. This crossed my path today as something that peaked my interest, haven’t read a comic in ages either, but the story and art for the Crossed comics has been off and on again on my radar. Love the art on this cover. Anyway, Comic Cavalcade is where you gotta go if’n you’re interested.

One of our exchange students two years ago, Adrian, from León, Guanajuato, Mexico turned me onto this song (I may have mentioned it before…even my burnt out brain can quip, through repetition we learn).   They’re one of those multiple million view things on fucking youtube, so I’m sure there’s plenty that don’t as well, maybe because they’re famous, a little dorky or both.  Just good fucking edgy rock and roll as far as I’m concerned (maybe that line from Crass’ “Banned for the Roxy” is right…”do they think guitars and rock and roll are just fucking toys, fuck ’em…”).

My virtual main man in Sweden, Björn with the rest of Unter den Linden recently. I don’t know who took the pic but it looks like a good time…cheers guys!

Remember this one? Well like everything there is a story behind it. As unimportant as that is, taken from the vault of useless information, let’s be fair though as it was a creative moment in time (feeling unnecessarily deep right now) and it made an impact.

Talked on the phone with my old band mate and long time Mustard Relic, Brian Faulkenberry, it was good to (re)connect. In this virtual age it’s wonderful to do something besides text/message/email/etc., it’s warming to hear a familiar voice. He has left the familiar ocean blue behind and will be joining the throngs of civilians looking to get their true worth. Always good to talk to you Brother. He mentioned this classic act, I took it as a request…

I have found this statement to be true on a few occasions…Jesus saves you from yourself…

Another old Humboldt pal, Charles Anderson, a gentleman whose talent leaves me in awe.  This is a screen capture I did of One Man Running playing my favorite song of theirs, Resin Scraper, via video done by the legendary
Sam ATAKRA. Anyway, so back in April I messaged Chuck (fuck Messenger, but for some folks my only source of contact), but he’s not one to be on fucking FB very often. So I wrote, “Hey Chuck! I don’t know if you are on here ever but just wanted to give you a heads up. The label Hopeless Records and the band Fifteen are claiming ownership of your OMR songs on the Stress 7″. I had it up on youtube and they filed a complaint…they may in fact owe you royalties if this band/label is stealing your songs…”
And his response this past Friday, “I know fifteen put our stress e.p. as bonus tracks to one of their cds. I found that out one day looking through cds at the record store. Nobody ever contacted me asking permission. Not that I care about that. But I don’t like them removing your post. That’s so very un-punk rock.”
So, fuck Fifteen and anybody making money with ’em! You can buy the 7″ on Discogs for something like $3 or in old school Mustard Relics style, download it HERE.

Even a Mustard Relics Super Sabado Gigante Mega Armageddon Death post must come to an end (especially when I’ve had a ton of shit to say/share and it’s no longer Saturday…what better way than with the Electro Hippies and their Peel Session…

Random Relations…

Thought I’d start a post with a tune this time ’round. We play cards with our exchange students sometimes on the weekends (cards have a long standing tradition in my family, we just discovered the card shuffler that my Mom and Aunt used when they would play). During these sessions we crank the bluetooth, mostly rap is what my wife and the boys like, but I get to pick every fourth song or so. Ace of Spades was one of my choices this weekend…
If you like to gamble, I tell you I’m your man
You win some, lose some, it’s all the same to me
The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say
I don’t share your greed, the only card I need is
The Ace Of Spades, The Ace Of Spades

Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil
Going with the flow, it’s all a game to me
Seven or Eleven, snake eyes watching you
Double up or quit, double stake or split
The Ace Of Spades, The Ace Of Spades

You know I’m born to lose, and gambling’s for fools
But that’s the way I like it baby
I don’t wanna live forever
And don’t forget the joker!

Pushing up the ante, I know you wanna see me
Read ’em and weep, the dead man’s hand again
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die
The only thing you see, you know it’s gonna be
The Ace Of Spades, The Ace Of Spades

So many good lines in this song, I’m feelin’ “read ’em and weap, the dead man’s hand again.” Again and again. These guys are about the hardest thing they play on the local classic rock station, unless you consider various songs by Metallica, ie. Enter Sandman.  I never liked Metallica (a few songs here and there…yup, if you’re in the know their best song was their first and it was all downhill from there…said no one ever…Hit the Light’s) even when I first heard them at the demo stage before the first album (which was boring to me).  I was on a whole other planet musically in 1981. I respect them as talented musicians but never caught the bug.  Speaking of bugs, one band that bugs me in their popularity is Guns and fucking Roses, talk about lame and boring…their schtick didn’t stick with me, damn rich junkie rock stars. Appetite came out in ’87 and I was not feeling that at all, but I believe it’s still the top selling debut album ever (so what the fuck do I know). Top selling is great for the pocketbook, but it also means that tons of idiots identify with what you’re about (let’s face it, most people are idiots). 1987 (the year I graduated from high school) for me was the year to be blown away by Scum!

Also in 1987 was The Day My Kid Went Punk…haha! The ABC Afterschool Specials were something else. There’s a million of ’em on fucking youtube for you viewing pleasure including What If I’m Gay? (1987) and Stoned (1980).  A fella my age could write a little something on each one of those but most of these are heavy on the cheese and would be a struggle to sit all the way through…the above special was definitely heavy on the cheese.  No body agrees what punk was about anyway, but I would submit, “I’m living in a world that I really hate, what can I do? Reluctantly I take the bait, just like you.” 1982’s Bullshit Detector II pretty much covers everything going on in that day and age (and unfortunately we seem to be stuck in that same space, like some kind of twilight zone). That’s what punk was to me, being a bullshit detector…
The last song from said comp…
