Bród 93/23
In 1993, legislation was enacted to decriminalise homosexuality in Ireland. This was the culmination of decades of gay rights activism and lobbying.
Bród 93/23 commemorates this work with a special event in Leinster House, hosted by the Cathaoirleach and including guest speakers who played critical roles in repealing the laws at the time and who witnessed a sea change in Irish societal attitudes.

Celebrating Yeats | "Smiling public man"
In 1922 one of Ireland’s most renowned poets, William Butler Yeats, was offered a nomination to the Seanad and in 1923 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Yeats described the prize as "Europe's welcome to the Free State".
Watch an event hosted by the Cathaoirleach to mark the centenary of the awarding of the prize to Yeats, a celebration of his time as a "smiling public man" and his rich artistic work.

Ireland: a parliamentary democracy
Ireland is a parliamentary democracy. The National Parliament (Oireachtas) consists of the President and two Houses: Dáil Éireann (House of Representatives) and Seanad Éireann (the Senate) whose functions and powers derive from the Constitution of Ireland enacted by the people on 1 July 1937. The Houses of the Oireachtas are situated at Leinster House, Dublin.
