Laddie is an Afro-Colombian council leader in the Pacific coast city of Tumaco, Colombia 🇨🇴. The local community there knows that forests provide so many things – like food, protection, and livelihoods – and should be conserved. Laddie’s community is one of 19 Afro-Colombian and Indigenous groups USAID supported with REDD+ projects, which conserves forests that capture carbon, which, in turn, generate credits sold on the carbon market. Funds received from the sale of carbon credits are reinvested into the community. Laddie explains it best: “It all becomes a circle. Plant a tree…and that tree will later provide income to the community to plant even more trees, which will generate more resources, improve the conditions for people in our community, and…provide better conditions for the entire planet.” #USAID #COP28 #Colombia #Conservation #Forests
