Our fediverse correspondent Lenny returns to discuss the FBI seizure of the servers of Kolektiva.social, the largest anarchist instance on Mastodon. We also talk about the continuing discrediting of big tech companies such as Twitter, Meta and Reddit, and what that might mean for people working to build an open-source, decentralized alternative to corporate social media platforms.

Also tensions have flared in Bonanova, a posh neighbourhood in Barcelona, over the fate of 2 anarchist squats. Desokupa, a fascist goon squad who contract out their services to evict squatters, has vowed to take back the squats but anarchist resistance has been swift and fierce.

After reading A Few Words Against Rats (see below), we wanted to address a point that is not specifically mentioned: anarchist or anarchist-adjacent journalists. No one should be filming or photographing riotous moments, no matter who is holding the camera, without exception.
Attempting to mark 15 years of radical radio, the Dissident Island posse put together our 265th episode which also brings 2022 to a close. In store for you here:

This is our chance to re-imagine social media, and our relationship to it. To rediscover the lost promise of the Internet. To construct new digital worlds in the burning shell of the old. And to do it together.
As the gears of recuperation churn popular energy towards supporting a heavily sanitized list of politicians in the US, the people of so-called Brazil are dealing with the aftermath of a hotly contested election. Despite widespread reports of voter suppression and vote buying, right-wing incumbent, Jair Bolsonaro, has lost by a narrow margin to neoliberal centrist Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva better known as Lula. If you’ve spent any amount of time on the desolate lands known as the internet in 2022 this summer, you have probably heard of the recent HBO documentary series titled “The Anarchist”. This pathetic excuse for a docuseries follows the story of a wealthy Canadian white guy who started a conference in Mexico called “Anarchapulco,” in hopes of promoting anarcho capitalism. The series then follows an array of wealthy westerners who have decided that Mexico is the land of freedom that will save them from the stifling bureaucracies of modern life.
On April 11th. A group of Montreal Anarchists snuck into the offices of RBC armed with flyers, stickers and paint cans. They left a message for the bank: Divest from CGL. Coastal GasLink is a filthy pipeline project being built on unceded Wet’suwet’en territory without their consent. Royal Bank of Canada or RBC is heavily invested in this disgusting project since they simply don’t care about Indigenous sovereignty and the ongoing climate catastrophe.

Reflections From the October Rebellion
Learning from Chile’s Revolts

Who is writing the future and what is at stake? We translated and recorded an interview with Isa from Valparaìso, who reflects on the revolts, the frontlines, the Mapuche struggle, anarcho-feminism and the territorial assemblies.
