DLBottleIt is election night! Priority one is getting that ballot to a drop box. And priority two is stopping by the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally for some politics and good cheer over a drink.

The Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally meets every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern (2409 10th Ave E, Seattle) starting at 8pm. You’ll find us on the back patio.

Chapters of Living Liberally are all over the place…if you can’t make it to the Seattle chapter, stop by another chapter near you.

    In the end it wasn’t close. Beshear is going to win by 5+ points.

    Ohioans fear dope smoking hippies more than they fear abortion but they like them both a lot.

    Looking like Youngkin failed to flip the VA senate with all that effort and fundraising. Losing the house is a distinct possibility too

    I’d prefer that alternative.

    Given the current House rules for any budget legislation, even if six less-than-insane Republicans crossed the aisle to join with Democrats to pass a budget keeping the government open for business, they would not be able to bring it to the floor for a vote.

    So vacating the chair is a better option for the country if it brings us a step closer to a bipartisan compromise around a Speaker who is not completely fucked in the head and will adopt biparitisan rules.

    King County Elections Director, incumbent Julie Wise has 83% of the vote.

    King County Council District 4, Jorge Baron at 56%; District 8, Mosqueda 50.18%, Aragon 49.37%.

    Port of Seattle Position 5, incumbent Fellerman over 71%.

    Seattle City Council District 1, Saka at 58%; District 2, Woo at 54%; District 3, Hollingsworth at 58%; District 4, Rivera at 55%; District 5, Moore at 70%; District 6, Hanning 50.75%, Strauss 48.7%; District 7, Kettle at 55%.

    Seattle Prop. 1: Yes, 65.98%; No, 34.02%.

    Seattle School Board, incumbents Rankin and Smith both have over 60%.

    A Beshears – Haley race in 2024 is improbable, but not implausible. Biden and Trump could both drop out for various reasons, age-related health issues cropping up being the foremost one.

    I’m almost sad this failed as badly as it did.

    As things stand, certainly quite a few Republican incumbents in Biden states and districts will now resign themselves to dropping any pretense of leaning into Dobbs and running on “moderate policy alternatives” to appeal to suburban whites. They will now have admit that all of their policy alternatives are unpopular, extreme, and viewed unfavourably by most voters.

    Had Youngkin’s political strategy succeeded we can be sure it would have been put into play everywhere. But once again we discover that actual voters are just not as stupid or gullible as pollsters or GOP strategists conceive them to be. I might have preferred that Republicans learn this lesson after it was too late. But not at the expense of women in Virginia.

    Still there’s always reason to have faith in Republicans limitless ability to ignore these political lessons. And with a freak like MAGA Mike as their Speaker it’s almost certain they will.
