New immigration rules

I am a teacher. My partner lives abroad and works a respected profession. Under the new rules revealed today (that UK citizens must earn £38,700 before their partners can move to the UK), I will need to be on the maximum pay scale- M6@ £41,333 before my partner can live here. That will take me a minimum of 5 more years as I'm currentlyon M2- £31,737. How is that 'in line' with the average? How is that acceptable? The only option I can currently see is to move abroad, and the UK will lose yet another teacher. Really disappointing.
