Orange Juice- Postcard Singles (1980-81), You Can't Hide Your Love Forever (1982), Texas Fever (1984), The Orange Juice (1984)

When I started Burning Aquarium almost three years ago with the idea of sharing music that I thought had been overlooked by posterity Orange Juice were one of my main inspirations.
In many ways Orange Juice drew the blueprint for the Independent music of the 80's and 90's.
These records have all been featured on Burning Aquarium before.

Orange Juice- You Can't Hide Your Love Forever (1982)

One of my very favourite Lps of all time, consistently in my ever changing list. Hugely influential on all 'indie' music, and four years before C86. Wistfully lyrical, gorgeous fractured funk. These qualities might just emerge from this rip of a rather worn old vinyl.

Mona- I think it was you who was looking for The Orange Juice- there's a big selection here:

And a contemporary article from Zig Zag courtesy of Highlander here: http://cactusmouthinformer.blogspot.com/2011/09/zig-zag-feb-1982-orange-juice-general.html

Orange Juice- Texas Fever (1984)

First posted a rather ropey mp3 of this gem in the early days of Burning Aquarium. Here's a vinyl rip @320. This is for Tom, who requested it whilst it was in the pile of rediscovered vinyls I was considering ripping, for Mona, who originally asked for it back in April last year (my first ever request) and for the 200 plus people who downloaded the inferior version.

Felicity- Orange Juice, The Wedding Present, James Kirk...

felicity
• noun (pl. felicities) 1 complete happiness. 2 the ability to express oneself appropriately. 3 a felicitous feature of a work of literature or art.
— ORIGIN Latin felicitas, from felix ‘happy’.
Oxford English Dictionary

Back in the eighties when I was trying to make the transition from conventional poetry to songwriting (ha!) this song was very important to me, and I still love it.

Three versions here:
Orange Juice- from the LP You Can’t Hide Your Love Forever (1982)
The Wedding Present- from the LP Tommy (recorded for Peel Session in 1986)
James Kirk from the LP You Can Make It If You Boogie (2003)
James Kirk wrote the song. He left Orange Juice in 1982 and became a chiropodist.

Orange Juice-Texas Fever (1984)

Happy days at Burning Aquarium- this is our first post in response to a reader request. Keep them coming and we’ll do our best to fulfil your requirements.
Last month’s post of Postcard era Orange Juice singles has proved hugely popular.
3 years on and in many respects Orange Juice were a very different band, with Two UK top 40 LP’s and a top ten single under their belts. Great as their work for Postcard was, Orange Juice were by now more musically polished , and the use of more sophisticated production saw the band revealing their soulful side. The first five tracks on this mini LP were produced by Dennis Bovell, a reggae producer who had earlier made forays into punk with The Slits and also produced The Pop Group.
Line up:
Edwyn Collins – guitar, vocals
Malcolm Ross – guitar, vocals, keyboards
David McClymont – bass guitar, keyboards
Zeke Manyika – drums, vocals, percussion
