"The Game" (1997) "The Game" (1997)
Discussion

I watched this film last night and very much enjoyed it. For those who don't know, The Game was directed by David Fincher and follows a businessman (Michael Douglas) whose estranged young brother (Sean Penn) gives him a strange birthday present—a game from a mysterious company called Consumer Recreation Services. The game's objective is unclear and he finds himself evading deathly situations.

This film is quite overlooked among the rest or Fincher's filmography (it was released in between Se7en and Fight Club). It is riveting, suspenseful, intelligent, and one of those movies that stay in your mind. It is a great example of Fincher's brilliance and an underrated gem.

I gave it 5/5 on Letterboxd and would like to hear opinions on the film from those who've seen it.

Additional interesting fact about the movie: the father of Michael Douglas' character in flashbacks was played by Charles Martinet, who voiced Mario and Luigi for 30 years in the Super Mario games.
