The entire state of Nevada is only allotted less than 4% of the total water that flows through Lake Mead/Powell every year, and in recent years is using barely 3/4 of that allotment.
Any issues with the water level behind the damn have nothing to do with Nevada.

They have been blockaded by Israel since 2007. Prior to 2005 they were occupied by Israel for almost 40 years after being seized from Egypt. For the last 60 years anyone living in that area knows nothing in their lives except the near constant conflict with Israel.
Regardless of the nuances of the political situation and who's right / who is wrong, growing up in that environment is not conducive to being a well-adjusted adult.

Yep, Nevada's allotment of the river is only a little over 5% that of California. Vegas isn't really an egregious user considering.

As far as the taxes go, yes I'm assuming they could. Currently however it appears they split their salary in half, and get to claim the standard deduction individually resulting in a significantly lower tax burden. Whether or not this works out as a lower tax burden than claiming the other as a dependent is something they probably worked out on their own.
