DUNDEE HANDBOOK - 1976/77

A wee souvenir book that was available at the start of the 1976/77 season.
Content includes a look back over the previous season (we were relegated) and looking ahead into life in Div 1. There's an interview with manager, Davie White - a football quiz - player profiles - squad picture - an overview of the DFC Social Club - a delve into the Dee's history and the up coming fixture list. No bad for 25p!

TEMURI KETSBAIA - 2001-02

When Dundee were in spend, spend, spend mode a few years back, Ketsbaia was one of their star signings. Previously he was a big hit down in England as well as being his National team's (Georgia) top scorer, but his time at Dundee was rather short lived, only resulting in 2 dozen games played. The number on his shirt was also his goal tally...6.
Last I heard he was manager of a team in Cyprus.

EX DEES TOGETHER AGAIN

Flicking through an old Shoot annual I have from 1971, I caught glimpse of 2 ex Dee players who had coincidentally been put side by side in the book.
On page 42 on the left is Ian Ure in his Manchester United strip, and on page 43, Alan Gilzean in action for Spurs.
In the page 43 caption it says, "English football needs more foreigners - long may they continue to invade England!".

SIGNED CANIGGIA CARICATURE - 2001

When CC met GG....
The idea behind this was to have reproductions on sale at the Dee shop, but due to lousy timing, Caniggia signed it just a few days before he buggered off to Rangers, and so it never saw the light of day! Having said that, it did crop up a few years later on the cover of Norrie Price's DFC history book - "Up wi' the bonnets!".

DEE FANS LEAVING HAMPDEN - 2003

And so the Dundee supporters pour out of Hampden and make their way to the buses to head back home.
Perhaps it wont be too long to the next visit.

2003 CUP FINAL RADIO BROADCAST

They gave it a good go but Dundee finished runners up in the 2003 Scottish Cup final. Here is the team going over to applaud the Dee fans who travelled through to Hampden for the occasion.
If you weren't in amongst the 20,000 Dundee supporters at the match, you probably watched it live on television. Below, however, is a rare recording of the radio coverage. Although I have the full match, this is only the first 10 minutes of the broadcast to give you an idea how it sounded across the airwaves.

Here's the new generation of Dundee supporters having a bit of fun down at the side of the pitch at Hampden in 2003.
I couldn't help notice the scoreboard - Dundee 5 Rangers 4 - I must have missed that game!!

This stripey trio of Dundee supporters were captured by my brother on the way to Hampden for the Scottish Cup Final against Rangers in 2003.
I have a batch of other photos from the final at Hampden I will be putting on view over the next few days. So stay tuned, you may spot yourself!

BOBBY WILSON'S TESTIMONIAL - 1975

This is the programme issued for a Testimonial Game for Bobby Wilson which took place at Dens in December 1975. Although it was against Celtic, there were in fact a few Dundee players in amongst the Hoops with the likes of Allan, Strachan, Gemmell & Phillip teaming up with McNeill, Hood, Lennox and co.
The result was a 5-1 Dee victory.
Bobby Wilson's final game for the dark blues was in May 1976, a 1-0 win over Motherwell, bringing his time at the club to an end.

BOBBY WILSON - ON THE BALL

Dependable right-back, Bobby Wilson, was with Dundee for 10 years, 1966 to 1976, and is one of the clubs longest serving players. He played in a total of 406 matches. In amongst those games he was involved in such high profile encounters as the 2-0 win over AC Milan and the Scottish League Cup Final victory.
He was also part of the Scottish League team who beat the Irish League in Belfast, 2-0.
His "sitting on the ball" pose reminds me of the time George Best did this, during an actual match!

THE FULL SQUAD - 1997/98 SEASON

They seemed to have crammed in as many players & staff as they could find for this team picture. It turned out to be "the more the merrier" on this occasion though, as Dundee did finish top of Div 1.
"Firkin Brewery" was sponsor.

DUNDEE'S DEADLY DUO

Only once in Dundee FC's history have the team managed to score over 100 League goals in one season.
This momentous occasion happened in 1946-47. After playing a total of 26 League games, Dundee banged in 113 goals. If you include all the Cup matches too, the tally was 134!
As a consequence of this goal rush, the club had 2 equal top scorers for the 1946-47 season, with both Bert Juliussen and Ernie Ewen each netting 33 times.

BALCONY PICTURE #1

Following on from the previous item which featured Hugh Robertson reading about the City Centre celebrations in the Sunday Post when Dundee won the Scottish League in April 1962, here is the 1st of 3 photos of the team on the balcony of the City Chambers in the City Square. This joyous moment took place on Saturday evening, a few hours after beating St Johnstone at Muirton, 28th April.
