ONE THE JUGGLER - SOME STRANGE FASHION (1985)
After the release of their excellent debut album "Nearly a Sin" (click here) and the single "Are You the One?" Bob Nanook (Craig Plummer) joined as drummer in early 1984. The end of the year also saw more line-up changes with Momo Sex (of Ligotage) on guitar, Steve Bray on drums, Charlie Mead on bass, and of course the appearance of the legendary Mick Ronson.

1985 brought the release of the second album "Some Strange Fashion" (not as excellent as the first album) produced by Mick Ronson, who took over most of the playing himself. Some touring ensued but unfortunately after the November tour, they were to be no more. One the Juggler played at the Marquee Club for the last time on the 30th of November 1985. There was rumoured to be some trouble with RCA over the release of the second album and no promotion, and then not a peek. Over a two year period, they played at the Marquee at least ten times, with several different line ups, including surprise appearances by Mick Ronson on guitar.

Rokko went on to work further with Mick Ronson, and more recently has recorded an album with a band Spiv UK. Lin Minchin is working with pre Juggler pals, Tennis Shoes and Geezerbird. Steve Nicol is back in the driving seat with Eddie and the Hot Rods. Lushi recorded with the Boom Boom Room in 1986, and it is rumoured that he recorded with Rokko within the last couple of years.

FLAMIN' 2nd UK (1978)

FLAMIN' GROOVIES - NOW (1978, 2nd UK Edition)
"Now" was the Groovies' best selling UK album, boosted by the lengthy European tour. There are three versions - a U.S. (reissued in 2005 on DBK Records) and French one and two British, the final draft having an improved cover, paying more than a little homage to the Stones "Aftermath". The title itself was inspired by the Stones too as "Rolling Stones Now" was the U.S. title of their second album back in 1964. "Now" is the only Flamin' Groovies album to include a lyric sheet!

First released early 1978 through Phonogram, a new "Now" emerged late '78 through WEA with a different inner bag and the excellent "Aftermath" cover. The tracks, in a different order, were supplimented by "Blue Turns to Grey" and another more worthy addition - the '73 Capitol "When I Heard Your Name" the heartbreak ballad with chiming guitars and a slowed down Bo Diddley beat. There's also a barely audible talkover track lost in the finely restrained riff, all adding to the magic. (B.o.B notes)

This vinyl rip was made in 24 bit and dithered to 16 bit with iZotope RX 2. Full UK artwork included.

FLAMIN' GROOVIES - FEEL A WHOLE LOT BETTER (12") (1978)
Taken from the second Sire LP, "Feel a Whole lot Better" was coupled with a terrific cover of "Paint It Black" (not on the UK edition of "Now") and the Capitol version (1973) of "Shake Some Action" with Terry Rae (Hollywood Stars) on drums. A brilliant version which is harder and faster than the original Rockfield recording (available on the "Shake Some Action" LP).

JUMPIN' UK EDITION (1979)

FLAMIN' GROOVIES - JUMPIN' IN THE NIGHT (1979, UK Edition)

UK edition of "Jumpin' In The Night", final part of the Sire trilogy. The track order is totally different from the US edition, with also some alternate choices of the covers selected. "You're My Wonderful One", "19th Nervous Breakdown" & a beatlesque "Boys" replace "Werewolves of London" and "It Won't Be Wrong". As the UK edition goes, the choice of "Please Please Me" as the opening seems more than obvious, and the title track becomes the piece de resistance as the final track of side 1. For all these reasons, UK Side one is so strong that the second side dismally fails to attain the same kind of density.

This edition has never been reissued in CD format (even though the songs were available on the Rhino anthology, check it on SOTD). The US version was reissued on CD in 2005 (check it on SOTD).

This vinyl rip was made in 24 bit and dithered to 16 bit with iZotope RX 2. Full UK artwork included.

BRAND NEW RIP

THE POP - GO! (1979)
"Go!", a classic Power Pop masterpiece produced by Earle Mankey, an original Sparks member and also a renowned Power Pop producer (20/20, Elevators, Three O'Clock, Mr.Encrypto...and more). The overall sound of "Go!" was very different from the "more garage" first album, evolving, pushing the boundaries of pop to include not just their original influences which rapidly developed into a pop-punk hybrid sound of crunchy and jangly guitars but also the more modern sounds they were listening to on David Bowie's "Low" and Brian Eno's "Another Green World" as well. The bands guitarists liked to boast that they could do anything on guitar a synthesizer could do but cooler and one listen to "Beat Temptation" or "Under The Microscope" backs this up.
