Sorcerers and Wizards are about as tanky as Fighters and that is a design flaw. by Confident-Boss-6585 in dndnext

[–]Underbough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brœther shield only lasts for a round and is a reaction AND a spell slot - that’s a hefty resource tax to be as beefy as the fighter for a single round

No, wizards and sorcerers are not nearly as tanky as a fighter. They’re just capable of spending their per rest resources faster

Nightmare Fuel: The Madness of the Abbot by Kavandje in CurseofStrahd

[–]Underbough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They really served this up to you on a silver platter huh 😂

My party is there now, with Ireena alive and well coping, to petition for some help with a certain set of sapping nightmares they’ve been facing… Abbot agreed on condition they lend him Ireena for some Instructional Sessions with Vasilika

It’s been a wonderful horror show. The more they explore the Abbey, every conversation they have with him, the more they’re utterly convinced he is horrifically lost to the madness of barovia. And all the while Vasilika is stepping further into the uncanny valley as she adopts more of Ireena’s mannerisms in just slightly wrong ways

It’s been an utter treat. We happen to have Rictavio here as well, and the party has been rolling saves against Scrying magic periodically throughout the day. Just a matter of time before they’re caught with him with his illusory hat off, as he has entrusted our bard with his true name and likeness as they scheme about how to deal with the abbot

It has a massive effect on literally anything you do with bishops, any lines you’ve studied will be completely backwards on the diagonals

What’s the actual difference? Is it just a different strain of same plant? I have some friends who are doing delta 8 but I’ve never dabbled, only used the real deal

Can a game with multiple settings be entertaining? by EternalHuffer in DMAcademy

[–]Underbough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your aim, if youre just dimension hopping and changing focus pretty regularly then no issue. But if youre looking for a character focused narrative then it helps to have a tighter focus and plot in mind - doesnt mean you cant explore, just that you may find characters and plots outpaced by their setting.

Also keep in mind what appeals to the party. I for one am really just a high fantasy sucker, and would be sad to see tech and new realms creeping into a game that begins in a historical setting

Carl Can Run Pretty Fast. by MrBusinessCat in DnD

Ooh I got you there! You’re right theres a big difference

It has to do with how springy each material is - two perfectly stiff objects collide without deforming and it acts as described. But two fleshy spongy objects that would compress and deform and break upon impact - all of that deformation absorbs energy away from the kinetic energy imparted during the collision, and is damage to the bodies. The remaining energy not dissipated to damage, friction, sound, heat etc is retained between the bodies as motion

This compression also draws the impact out over a longer span of time - that’s critical because the force imparted during the collision is inversely proportionate to the time duration of the collision. When OP cites newtons law of opposite reactions, people typically think of this with respect to force but really its about momentum - the law actually states that force is the time derivative of momentum. Practically speaking this means when we analyze collisions we look at it as a step load imparted on an elastic body and the stiffness of that body determines the frequency at which the load is imparted, which informs us how much strain the object develops in response. In this case bodily bits would break as they strain so its not an elastic model, but this would only further dampen the impact. In fact some parts of the skeleton are intended to break first to prevent more serious damage. I believe the clavicle is one example but anatomy isn’t my strong suit

Of course the problem really is trying to apply any of this to DnD. It’s a damn game and bringing physics into it doesn’t make it any better, + most folks who do are pretty out of their depth

Unless it says “doubles your speed after modifiers” you’re correct, the math here is very wrong
