Brisket used to be really cheap because it has lots of sinew and connective tissue. Takes a long time cooking to break down and make tender. Now bbq has taken off brisket has shot up in price

Banks wouldn't reduce lending? default rates are unaffected. Were not talking about a housing market crash due to failing loans.
If they could make something as faithful and passionately made as Peter jacksons trilogy then I wouldn't mind more LOTR content.
I have zero faith any modern studio is capable of that though

The mechanism is supply and demand. If landlords start selling properties it will flood the market with more properties i.e. supply. That leads to reduced prices, helping normal people buy

We cant even build enough houses as it is. And that's despite the property market being so lucrative and inflated. Buildable land is not very common and therefore expensive and very few people want to build over the countryside.

I agree immigration is putting lots of pressure on the system and pushing prices up hurting the working class by stopping them getting on the ladder.
it needs to be reduced.

There's plenty of mechanisms that can be implemented. Increased tax for people or businesses that own over 3 properties. Increasing the deposit threshold for buy to let mortgages (minimum deposit is currently 25%) could even scrap buy to let mortgages.
One of the reasons they are unable to do so in the first place is because landlords buying all the properties have pushed prices up to the point of being unattainable for the poor of society. Its a lot easier to buy a first house for 150k than 250k
The government is more than capable of reducing the amount of landlords and increasing family homeownership, they just don't want to because many of their voters and donors are invested in the property market. Houses are meant to be homes, not investments.
