Woima Collective - Tezeta (2010)

ARTIST`````Woima Collective
ALBUM`````Tezeta
GENRE`````Ethiopian
Jazz, Funk,
YEAR````````2010

Words
Infectious album of Ethiopian and Afro-jazz inspired grooves from members of lauded German funk unit Poets Of Rhythm. 'Tezeta' came about after group leader and tenor sax player Johannes Schleiermacher was smitten with the sounds he soaked up on trips to Morocco and the feelings of celebration and healing in Gnawan trance performances. Further meetings with the legendary Ethio-jazz master, Mulatu Astatke, prompted him to set up a ten piece unit and after a three day rehearsal and a pair of two day recording session, this album was created. The result is brilliantly diverse album, ranging from fiery funk arrangements akin to the Heliocentrics, to super-cool and dubby workouts imbued with a skilled freedom and sublime groove which will surely impress any fans of the Ethiopiques series.

The Body - All the Waters of the Earth Shall Turn to Blood (2010)

ARTIST`````The Body
ALBUM`````All the Waters of the Earth Shall Turn to Blood
GENRE`````Sludge Metal, Doom, Stoner, Distorted
YEAR````````2010

Review from pitchfork
On paper, All the Waters is a grim record, as lyrics outline the failure of science, nature, man, gods, and prophets in pithy bursts. But unless you're reading along, you'll never know any of this. King's strained, unintelligible voice seems constantly at the brink of being swallowed by the sounds around him. Those sounds are troubling enough, recorded and mixed so that the guitars and drums always feel like they're too loud for the equipment and room meant to contain them. The record itself is a smartly designed simulacrum for the lyrics, recreating the sense of impending darkness by creating a sound that swallows itself. The young indie rock bands now using cheap microphones and analog hiss to shape their songs are often criticized for obscuring shabby songs with shabby sounds. The best of those bands, however, use production to reinforce their ideas and give them an extra bit of depth. The Body does just that here, letting rough-and-tumble production add even more anxiety and trouble to seven songs that were bothered as is. Smart choice: All the Waters of the Earth Turn to Blood is the seldom collapse-of-the-world record that's actually as disturbing as it wants to be.

What?
I only have this 8 track long compilation but if you have the links for the original 15 track long one please post a link.

Review from RA
The task of reviewing an anthology of music so virulently steeped in socio-political context raises two problematic questions. First: should a fair appraisal of artistic merit ever draw upon historical reference in order to justify present relevance? Second: if it must, can one ever hope to do so accurately without first-hand experience of the juncture to which it is so inextricably linked? A conclusive answer to either is elusive. Fortunate, then, that Mandarinen Träume should present enough of an aurally visceral experience in itself to avoid getting bogged down by such post-structuralist digressions.

Voice Of The Seven Thunders - Voice Of The Seven Thunders (2010)

ARTIST`````Voice Of The Seven Thunders
ALBUM`````Voice Of The Seven Thunders
GENRE`````Psychedelic Rock, Indie, Folk, Instrumental
YEAR````````2010

Album review
His debut album is a sprawling, largely instrumental affair with many threads: Eastern-tinged psychedelia, hazy, pastoral folk and dusty desert blues. And they are expertly combined, with cantering acoustic guitars and propulsive grooves preventing the sound from ever lapsing into proggy torpor. - Observer Music Monthly back in 2007 when Rick Tomlinson and co. unveiled their first full length as Voice of the Seven Woods.

Fast forward two and a half years (a few cdr’s, a ten inch, a seven inch or two and a rather apt alteration of name) and you wouldn’t even countenance the idea of a “proggy torpor” whilst listening to these ten songs. They take those aforementioned elements, retaining the focus on instrumentals, and they hardboil them like misguided spiritual alchemists. The resulting explosions of alloy and lore are compelling to say the least. Groovy too. No torpor, they don’t leave any time for that kind of malarkey.

And, after the initial shock, there’s plenty of beauty to be found beneath the muscular dynamics. Tomlinson’s playing is an absolute joy to hear, whether you’re nodding slowly or thrashing your head around wildly, and the band he’s got billowing up a storm behind him aren’t half bad either. Whether it’s Seven Woods or Seven Thunders, this particular guitarist is brewing up something extraordinary amidst the hills of Lancashire.

A Bleeding Panda Compilation!

What
Quite a chaotic selection - I am sure many of you who take music too seriously will be immensely irritated by some tracks here. In short, this is a pile of dance-nerd-rave-core tracks for butt-shaking. I really didn't know how to name the compilation so I just typed in some nice stuff as you can see.

I had a rather sad discovery a month ago - I flipped out on
a Japanese born techno-nerdcore artist imoutoid. After a few clicks I found out that he suddenly died from heart failure in 2009 (he was only 18 years old). There is not much information about him except some message board comments, a letter from his father and a bunch of pages that get messed up when you translate them with Google translate. Pay attention to his cover of the gorgeous Apex Twin song 4 (get it here) called HanaHazu*James!! OP "SoAi? 4Seasons" - shit, how do you pronounce that? There are some links on him here: http://dis.4chan.org/read/music/1244209724 and also check him out on youtube.

I really wanted to include at least one happy hardcore track on this compilation but after listening for several days to some multiple CDs "Hardcore Anthems" or whatever I found out that that's not my thing. I managed to cut out and rearrange a 1,5 min clip from an artist Gammer - a rather solid rave bang but that's it - I am not going back to that.

Anyways, some excellent fresh artists are here and I will be posting more quick comps like this very soon so stay tuned.

Twin Shadow - Forget (2010)

ARTIST`````Twin Shadow
ALBUM`````Forget
GENRE`````New Wave, Lo-Fi, Electropop, Electronic
YEAR````````2010

Conclusion/Review from popmatters:
Although Forget might not usher in a new musical era, it’s a near-flawless album and certainly one of the most impressive debuts we’ve ever seen. It might not change your life, but it will bury itself deep into your brain and make you feel good and warm for a couple of days. Given George Lewis Jr’s restless nature, it’s a safe bet that this will be the only Twin Shadow album of its kind. And that alone is something to be very excited about.
