This entry is for the four extended weights of the
Venus
series; breit mager (Light Extended, 1911), breit halbfett (Medium
Extended, 1911), breit dreiviertelfett (Bold Extended, 1927), and
breit fett (Extra Bold Extended, before 1915) [Reichardt
2011].
Reichardt implies that the breit fett originated at Wagner &
Schmidt, i.e. as a derivative of Annonce
/ Aurora-Grotesk V, but with a vertically cut terminal
on ‘r’, diagonally cut terminals on ‘cesS’, and a beardless ‘G’.
‘EFL’ originally had diagonal terminals as well [1915
specimen], but these were straightened [undated
note] before 1953 [1953
ad].
For digitizations, Scangraphic’s SG Venus includes
the Medium and Bold Extended. Venusian
Ultra NF (Nick’s Fonts, 2014) is based on the Extra Bold
Extended, and Venusian
