For any long time gacha players: Has there been a time where you got incredibly lucky pulls without realizing it? • For any long time gacha players: Has there been a time where you got incredibly lucky pulls without realizing it?
Tell me a Tale

I’ve recently got into the gacha gaming world with Zenless Zone Zero as my first gacha game. Within my first two 10 pulls, I managed to get two 5-star characters in Lycaon and Grace Howard. Being a complete noobie, I didn’t pay attention to the character’s rarities or the flashy animations and didn’t have much of a reaction other then “Oh, that’s pretty nice”. It wasn’t until after I got further into the game and played those two characters for a bit that I realized “Oh, they’re rare characters that are very strong.” I felt a bit dumb for not realizing it sooner. Has anyone else had a similar experience when they were first starting out with gacha?

How should I feel about stories in gacha games? • How should I feel about stories in gacha games?
Tell me a Tale

On one hand, the writers of these stories, or at least the ones in games like genshin, arknights and nikke, tend to be really fucking good. I am a person who appreciates story over mechanics/gameplay, and in gacha games that persists. I’ve only really played Genshin Impact and FGO, and both of those games have their moments when it comes to writing. One of the things i always tend to hear about the top contending gacha games is “this one has an excellent story”/“_____’s story is sooo good”

However, on the other hand, when I think about appreciating these games’ stories, I find myself remembering that i am playing a gacha game, a free game with microtransactions and a gambling system made to make you part with your money. With this in mind, I start to feel like I should be taking the great quality of these stories for granted, because if there’s one thing people play these games for, it’s the characters. And you cannot have a story without characters. In gacha, players whaling on these characters is how the devs primarily make their money, yet before the player can spend on them, they have to be ENTICED to get them.

This is done in a variety of ways, most commonly and superficially through appearance. But to sell them further, they root them into expertly woven storylines made to tug at the player’s heartstrings, which then increases their desire to obtain them. In other words, it’s basic emotional manipulation. Just look at Furina from Genshin (best and first example that comes to mind). If people didn’t like her before her role in act iii, they definitely did after, and that’s in conjunction with her insane kit. Id wager that even if her kit hadnt been so good or at least was average, people still wouldve whaled tf out of her banner. That’s how the magic works.

So TLDR - im torn on how I should feel about gacha game stories, bc for one thing they are usually crafted very well but for another the reason for that is likely bc it needs to be, otherwise the players arent spending and the devs arent making money. Thoughts?

Gacha games in one's perspective "Don't put all eggs in one bag" • Gacha games in one's perspective "Don't put all eggs in one bag"
Tell me a Tale

I'm not new to gacha games and not really active in this subreddit, but since today I'm free in the midnight of my trip, I have a lot of thought and I'd like to share about my story with gacha games for you.

But first here, all of us must have our first gacha game some how. Back when I was at first year in highschool, my only games were Minecraft and GTA Games Series.

The effect of COVID-19 on global made a lot of impact on my daily life, that's when I felt like ... my current games were boring. Yeah, at least I don't know much to do in those game anymore.

In another trip, I checked through Play Store. I don't know which random force made me to chose Genshin Impact... Only through that (I'm kind of person that have a lot of thoughts when my mind's free)

I'd say I was overwhelmed by the immerse scale and depth at the world of Genshin Impact when I first stepped on it (Around 1.5). In that time, I mostly do story... Especially... I PLAYED A LOT to get the most out of the game map, I cleared every chest, side quests, didn't let any resin go in waste, acquire all collectibles... tomget my favorite character ( I'm dat one dude who cleared Enkanomiya map, quest 3 days after it was released). Losing a single day of primogems is unacceptable. Even though I had spent money to get my favorite character (Koko and Inazuma MasterChef in 2.5?). (All of the progress was in a potato PC with i5 4th gen, 12gb RAM and GT730 easily overheated, I played lowest quality 800x600)

But all my effort went in waste after my account was hacked, at that time, I felt like I lost everything. I tried to get my account back by contacting Customer Service ( through help of the game's community) , but dudes, it took 40 days ... 40 DAYS at that time and each day of waiting was like 48hrs (I tried Ace Combat 7 as replacement but it didn't feel the same. Hellow fellow pilot đź‘‹). The result? I was rejected... No emotion when I read that email. Just submitting again and encouraging myself to move on... by play together with my friend account(I knew I against ToS)

I got my account back after 2nd try, I also upgraded my PC in that time but Sumeru exploration in my account became boring and not as excited as before. I endured myself in that boredom for roughly another year because past effort, until I decided to allow myself to take a long quit (people called it "burning out", right?).

As I prepare for my graduation exam (to get myself into good university), I told myself "no-gaming" in that time to get higher mark in school. In my determination, another wild game appear: GTA V online I acquired in Epic Game years before, then War Thunder. Yes people, I played it for another period, 100% break my own thumb.

But I felt like I missed something, until I remember about the image where cosplayers of Genshin Impact and Blue Archive stood opposite each other. I downloaded Blue Archive... New and easier gameplay with all beautiful students, I loved the game. But not as much dedication as I was before with Genshin Impact (I realized I started play casually).

"Never pull all eggs in one bag", I downloaded Azur Lane, Arknights. Only an hour or less for all 3 games a day because the exam is coming, I progressed slowly and have fun. (These game story is not really fun ... I know)

I've download many many gacha games to play afterward and each game a little effort of I was put in: Girls' Frontline, NIKKE, Punishing Gray Raven, Honkai Impact 3, Honkai Star Rail, .... When I felt like I want to play, I play, as simple as that. Without spending a single penny or much effort. Diverse environment felt good, I tried to keep up with each game story(by playing along reading documentation in megathread of the game subreddit) and cherish the characters, the music, the interactions,....

In the end, I passed my exam, so I think my memory and time management are A-OK. Those games are encouragement for me, I can study without worrying about losing one game is losing all.

So far, I've got into my desired university. SNOWBREAK and Wuthering Waves is my current focus (wedding skin worth it), while exercising and touching grass each day.

Btw, I do daily for all of the game in roughly 1 hr at night, I'll drop more game as I got my goal in that game. (Can someone tell me if I can finish the GFL1 story before GFL2 release)

As long as you can have fun with your playstyle, you're good. Irresponsible with the games but don't irresponsible with yourself.

Hope you can have a meaningful conclusion for yourself after reading my post. Free to criticize me since I know I'm still young and I don't have much awareness about my writing. (This is also the first time I wrote a post this long)

What's a Gacha game that got EOS'ed that you miss? • What's a Gacha game that got EOS'ed that you miss?

I used to play this weird chinese gacha game called Emperor Legend (you get isekai'd to ancient China and get legendary Chinese history figures in chibi form as characters) and whaled in the game (because I got this one character with a longsword with lightning powers early on) until for some reason I stopped playing it. One year after that, I came back to the game and I could no longer connect to the servers...

If anyone is interested, you could see the game here (it's still up in Android Playstore) Emperor Legend - Apps on Google Play

What Gacha games have the most diverse designs? • What Gacha games have the most diverse designs?
Tell me a Tale

Hello, so for context I'm someone who likes to do art as a hobby and I've decided I want to try doing a challenge for a Gacha game where each time I pull a character I draw them. So I'm looking for a game where the designs are clearly different in terms of silhouette, outfit design, body proportions etc etc. just so I get to practice a bit of everything doing this. Essentially I'm trying to build up my metaphorical visual database.

I don't mind if the game is female centric as Gacha games tend to be especially if the designs are noticeably different from eachother. And I don't really have a preference in terms of combat gameplay, Ive played hoyo games, rhythm games, a bit of arknights etc.

Feel free to comment your suggestions or just which game has your favourite designs ️ I'm bad at using Reddit so if I've formatted anything incorrectly lemme know how to fix it and I will!

How do you feel about gachas that give you trial units for the main story? • How do you feel about gachas that give you trial units for the main story?
Tell me a Tale

I'm used to miHoYo games (other than HI3) where you can use your units all the time, but I took a look at Blue Archive, and it seems like the main story doesn't let you use your own teams. To be honest, I find it kinda weird! When it's segregated like that, it makes it seem like the entire gacha element is like... tacked on? But at the same time, I do appreciate not being gated on main story content in any way. So I'm not sure how I feel about it overall.

Flagship events in gacha games • Flagship events in gacha games
Tell me a Tale

What gacha games do you play release flagship events consistently? By flagship event, I mean voiced events with some playable character interactions and a fun side story behind them. I think they keep the game fresh and give you more insight into the characters of the game.

I play Genshin Impact and HSR and both consistently deliver in this area.

I also play ZZZ but it’s still the first patch so I don’t know if they’ll follow the trend of the other hoyoverse games, and Wuthering Waves who didn’t have any in 1.1 which led me to take a break for now until things get more interesting.

Other games I’ve played but quit and didn’t have them include Bleach Brave Souls and ToF.

What do you think? Are these events important to you?

Did Microsoft permanently lose the console gacha market to Sony by rejecting GI. • Did Microsoft permanently lose the console gacha market to Sony by rejecting GI.
Tell me a Tale

So we all know a while back there was a reveal that Microsoft rejected GI for whatever dumb reason only for Sony to pick it up and now MS deeply 'regrets' it.

The funny part is GI's Playstation lead dev is a former Senior Software Engineer for Microsoft Xbox shows that they were indeed serious about going to xbox.

By rejecting GI, it appears that not only all future hoyo games are now PlayStation only but all big titles Chinese gachas.

HSR, ZZZ, WuWa, AP, NTE are all going to playstation. Even ToF which many seem to make fun of shows up in the first page of best sellers in JP PS last time i checked so I imagine it still brings in some decent money. I mean it is certainly doing better than Blue Protocol JP.

I suppose all everyone saw how successful the hoyo titles are and decided that this is a proven strategy along with Sony's realization that gacha are a big money maker by giving technical support that Xbox will probably never see a gacha game being ported over.

It makes me wonder if GI did go on Xbox, maybe things would have been different today as more gachas might be more willing to drop on the Xbox store.

How do you enjoy a gacha game without playing it? • How do you enjoy a gacha game without playing it?
Tell me a Tale

Before I say anything, I am completely aware that gacha games prey on FOMO and what I'm feeling is exactly the thing they want to abuse.

A few months ago I sadly figured that gacha games aren't really my type of thing. I'm not a big fan of the whole "play a small amount of the game everyday" playstyle; I'm someone who prefers to play in large bursts whenever I feel like it rather than consistent small ones.

However, just because I dislike the gameplay, it doesn't turn me off from other aspects the game has, most especially the story and specifically the characters. I want to enjoy and like these parts as if I were watching a show, but there's always that feeling that I'm not allowed to like a character unless I have them. As a result, I do my best to avoid seeing characters I have an interest in if I don't plan on getting them in the game.

So pretty much I'm asking advice for how I can enjoy a character and the game's story without feeling the need to play the game.

Gimme your power creep stories • Gimme your power creep stories
Tell me a Tale

So SMT DX2 just dropped their semi-annual power creep and its honestly amazing. We get SMTIVA Vishnu, and his ability is that he puts a marker on two of your enemies demons that just kills them after they act. No gimmicks, no salvation, just dealing 100% of your HP as damage. This follows in the rich tradition of the likes of Masakado #1 (instant kill ability), Maskado #2 (give you extra turns), and Maskado #3 (prevent all opponent abilities from activating).

What other ridiculous power creep stories ya'll got?

What gachas are you currently playing and which among those gachas are your top 3 favourites? Have you guys recently or previously dropped any gacha games, and for what reason? With WuWa coming out I'm also curious how many of you guys dropped Genshin for WuWa or tried WuWa but still prefer Genshin.

For me personally i only currently play HSR and WuWa, i've played genshin impact but the exploration wasn't fun and felt tedious, luckily WuWa's movement while exploring the open world felt so much better and as a result I haven't been playing genshin since.

When and How did you start playing Gacha? • When and How did you start playing Gacha?
Tell me a Tale

For me, everything started with HI3.

Back then, I was starting to do my A-level. I registered for HI3 Global and was among the first 100000 (?) pre-registors. I began playing around April or mid-summer when the game was released in 2018.

Born in Generation Z, I grew up with computers, computer games, and World of Warcraft. Thanks to my brother, I was allowed to play and socialize through World of Warcraft. This game was my entire childhood, and it formed my perception of video games. With this background, I didn't know anything about Gacha and Gacha monetization. When I started HI3, I was just a teenager who was blown away by the graphics of HI3 and its playstyle on mobile devices.

HI3 was the first game on mobile, which I believed was a decent mobile game. If a game looked like a typical loot box game with pop-ups and if it didn't have great 3D graphics, I thought it must be shit.

Even while playing HI3 and making first contact with the Gacha Banner, I didn't understand its purpose. Nonetheless, I grasped that I could earn a few gems and make some pulls. I felt alienated by that banner (literally). Meanwhile, I spend hours exploring and grinding Sakura Samsara. Then I dropped the game, kept it on the phone, and played when I felt like I wanted to.

One day, I was smart enough to make purchases through Google Play. I was still at school, but in the highest grade, to say so. This is when I started buying the monthly sub. Somehow I managed to restrain myself from buying the bigger top-ups. This is when I started to understand Gacha more and deeper. And I liked them. Today I am an addict.
