VA - Attack Of The Killer B's LP 83 w Revenge Of The Killer B's LP 81-84

H A P P Y   T H A N K S G I V I N G !!!!   Got a repost request from Jorge (I believe the same tall skinhead from my 70's,80's,90's music collector group on meta kind of like Mark Underground who started this blog but Jorge is from Brazil and Mark has roots in Armenia--another skinhead) so I am starting my holiday posts with a good supply of side dishes for the feast--B-sides that is per these albums...what I wrote before:  Thanks to Antonio over at the Rocket Star record store for letting me 'rip and return' this one.  Includes:  Marshall Crenshaw, Pretenders, The Blasters, Ramones, John Hiatt, Roxy Music, Peter Gabriel, The Time, Talking Heads, Gang of Four, T-Bone Burnett and Laurie Anderson.  Great rare songs!

So I got the follow up with these bands including a Madonna song that was pulled from the first album.  Also includes other great core bands from this DU Blog:  Fleetwood Mac, Marshall Crenshaw, Depeche Mode, Rank And File, The B-52's, Pretenders, Talking Heads, Echo And The Bunnymen, Tom Verlaine, Kid Creole And The Coconuts and Aztec Camera.  WoW I say!!!

The New Colony Six - Revelations LP 68 w Attacking A Straw Man LP 69 w At The River's Edge LP 93

REPOST and ADD ON:  I could think of no better suited post for Thanksgiving than this classic band as I added finally the Straw Man album as well as another rip of their debut not knowing when grabbing them both at Goodwill that I had already ripped the debut so you get both rips to compare old and new.

TOUCHDOWN, U.S.A. The Big Ten and Other Great College Marches of the Gridiron LP 61 - UNIVERSITY Of MICHIGAN BAND

Yes indeedy, no Thanksgiving is complete without the game.  Was glad to hear the MN Rouser from my college years on this one.  However, I heard the worst skp I have ever encountered on the MSU Fight Song but then I looked at who the band was.....their arch-rival Michagan State!!  Factory skip no doubt!

REPOST Request:  Nice request from new guy Post Post Modern Dad that fits in nicely with above (provided you are feeding your dog some scraps as the 3rd).  Brian Wilson is also invited who jammed with the band calling their 'Seven' album his 3rd favorite of all time due to the perfect singing--I think on the opener track 'Black & White'.

AMERICA - st LP 71 w Hat Trick LP 73 w Hearts LP 75 w Hideaway LP 76 w Harbor LP 77 w View From The Ground LP 82 w Greatest Hits LP & CD 75

REPOST and ADD ON:  Finally decided to tackle all this stuff from Goodwill having only posted the CD of greatest hits while still missing the 72 & 74 albums but the GH has three of each mostly.  Turns out their debut (first song a little messed up)  is another one of those prize vinyl sounds we are so fond of here like the first ELP, Country Joe and others...from a comment text file I threw in while researching the second album:  America's debut album is a folk-pop classic, a stellar collection of memorable songs that would prove influential on such acts as the Eagles and Dan Fogelberg. Crosby, Stills & Nash are the group's obvious stylistic touchstone here, especially in the vocal harmonies used (compare the thick chordal singing of "Sandman" and "Children" to CS&N's "You Don't Have to Cry" and "Guinevere") and the prominent use of active strummed acoustic guitar arrangements (contrast "Riverside" to CS&N's "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes").                       A comment also included with others:  Charlie Ricci said...

I believe America's debut was their best CD but Homecoming is weaker only by comparison. They are another band who started out very strong and gradually sunk to middle-of-the-road mediocrity. However, their 2007 comeback album, Here & Now is outstanding and was one of the best CDs of the just completed decade.

Perplexio said...Charlie: There is some great stuff on their debut and I'd even go so far as to say there are some songs on the debut that are better than anything on Homecoming. But I still find Homecoming to be more consistent and to have a better "flow" to it than their debut.

What makes this unusual, the 3 members of America were born in England to US Servicemen. Whether it was a startlingly brilliant imagination or a rapid osmosis of California culture upon moving to the States listening to Homecoming one could easily forget these guys weren't native born Californians.

Bone Cabal - 5 Budget Cuts! EP 83

REPOST Request:  Hope Doug Moody is doing well in this holiday season being a Mystic release and all as I haven't seen him post much at Meta but does check in from time to time.  I see they have another but this popular repost represents the beat up black and white type album from the Gothy folk that I love to post in the past and of course the title fits right into our holiday feast!

REPOST Request:  A last minute repost for BrokenDoll from L.A. I see now where I saw them (moved what I wrote last time to the comments) and for her a nice adddition of the live album I had in my deep dark old blog downloads storage that I hadn't even opened up yet...funny that the one song that wouldn't extract from the WINRAR was called 'It Mean's Nothing'..ironic as Dix Denney sure meant a lot to a lot of people (R.I.P.).

Re-Upped Johnny & The Distractions

VA - Thank God It's Friday 2.5 LP 78

REPOST Request:  I am reposting per a comment from Post Post Modern Dad at the other copycat soundtrack of the same name:  "This is interesting. There was indeed a TFIG film, and it has a massive "disco era" soundtrack. This is not it." To explain per what I wrote before:  I am reposting this because of the copycat soundtrack of the same name right above this post.  What I wrote before:  This one's handy for the cover name itself but still has some great music on it includes the bands:  Love and Kisses (posted both their albums in the past), Pattie Brooks, Donna Summer, Paul Jabara, Cameo, The Commodores, Wright Bros. Flying Machine, Marathon, Sunshine, Santa Esmeralda, D.C. La Rue, Natural Juices, Diana Ross and Thelma Houston.  All songs list BPM rate!  Forget labels, this one's a jam!!!

Also, I forgot to do a Disco Album of the Week post this week so he got my back & this qualifies, Enjoy!

CHERRY VANILLA - Bad Girl LP 77 w Venus Divinyl LP 79

REPOST:  Redid this one real quick as a key type of artist 'flavor' I might add for the DU blog over say the Europop below.  Didn't wear in my stylus tip long enough and as I tend to do at your expense (1000 apologies!) I compounded the error by bumping the normal sound card setting up one to 'Studio 1' (probably in self protest to the first ever Europop right below which was first time I ever got money from someone related to this blog in 15 years or so).  Anyways, please redownload along with Wha-Koo (I hit a rich vein of extra related posts to that artist I pulled from what I had done to refresh those posts and in comments per ClassicMusic20 and Jon H.), Leon Haywood, Allee Willis, Joe Lala & Mamie Van Doren.  Still got some holiday posts ready for Wednesday too!

LESLEY JAYNE - Starway 7 80 w Rocking With My Radio 7 81 w st LP 82 w Not To Be 12 EP 85

Some euro pop I got for a guy who paid me to buy these(first time ever!!)  I have to compare her vocal sound to Altered Images (sorry you can't unsee that).  I missed her big 7 first post and redid the rip along with Allee Willis, Leon  Haywood, Joe Lala, Mamie Van Doren & Wha-Koo as I switched to a new stylus tip and hadn’t worn it in properly while compounding the error upping to Studio 1 (196/196 kHz) a flag to myself I guess, but went back to my normal (96/96 kHz) that I had carefully compared long ago and normally use….yep low tech rules!  I had tried Studio 2 years ago on my soundcard but immediately changed it back then as it seemed like too many frequencies bumping into each other that diminished the sound.   She's from the Isle of Wight per text file included within-translated per her site.
