Liliental é o projeto paralelo de Dieter Moebius após a pausa momentânea de Cluster. Para acompanhar o artista em sua nova aventura musical, a banda inclui dois membros da famosa banda de jazz Kraan: Helmut Hattler (no contrabaixo) e Johannes Pappert (no sax alto). O engenheiro musical Conny Plank, que participou da publicação de muitos álbuns da Cluster, ajuda a banda a tocar violão, sintetizadores e partes de vozes manipuladas.
O álbum foi gravado em 1978 para a gravadora Brain Records. As faixas variam de experimentações de sintetizadores "ambientais" que se fundem ao rock, jazz e elementos "exóticos". Liliental é mais variada e colorida do que a maioria dos álbuns finais da Cluster de sua época ambiental. Liliental guia o ouvinte para um mundo musical astuto, agradável e intrincado, com muitas experiências "estranhas", padrões eletrônicos, loops e boas harmonias de guitarra flutuantes. Após esse projeto incrível, Dieter Moebius e Conny Plank gravam muitos outros álbuns imaginativos juntos, sempre colocando a ênfase no "eletrônico".
Eu, particularmente, gosto muito da faixa "Wattwurm", mas o álbum inteiro é bom. E, só mais um detalhe: os shorts de Conny Plank são tão curtos e constrangedores que, para a capa, decidiram não colocar a fotografia da banda. Ao invés disto, fizeram um desenho, colocando calças no alemão e um par de sapatos para esconder aquelas meias... .

Liliental is the side project of Dieter Moebius after Cluster's momentary break. To accompany the artist in his new musical adventure, the band includes two members of the famous jazz rock band Kraan: Helmut Hattler (on e-bass guitar) and Johannes Pappert (on alto sax parts). The musical engineer Conny Plank who participated to the publication of many Cluster's albums helps the band for guitar, synth, and manipulated voices parts.
Their album was recorded in 1978 for the Brain Records label. The tracks range from "ambient" synth experimentations fusing to rock, jazz, "exotic" elements. Liliental is more various, colourful than most of late Cluster albums from its ambient era. Liliental guides the listener into a cunning, pleasant, intricate musical world with lof of "weird" experimentations, electronic patterns, loops and nice floating guitar harmonies. After this amazing project, Dieter Moebius and Conny Plank will record many others imaginative albums together, always putting the emphasis on "electronic".
I particularly like the track "Wattwurm", but the whole album is good. And, just one more detail: Conny Plank's shorts are so short and embarrassing that, for the cover, they decided not to put the band's photograph. Instead, they made an art, putting pants on the German and a pair of shoes to hide those socks... .
