WELCOME TO CEGAA

The Centre for Economic Governance and Accountability in Africa (CEGAA) was founded in 2006 as a regional civil society organisation focused on attaining effective, rights-based and developmental health financing in Africa to enable a comprehensive response to HIV/AIDS.

We provide training, capacity-building, research and advocacy services to and through community structures, government stakeholders and legislatures in support of an empowered civil society and skilled public servants.

Services

CEGAA’s significant hands-on experience and solid multi-sectoral partnerships across Southern and East Africa enable us to generate evidence of, and potential solutions to, the fiscal and administrative challenges faced by many African countries in their efforts to strengthen health systems and responses to HIV/AIDS and TB. We achieve this through analysis of the international and national macro-economic frameworks and finance policies that influence and limit resources for social sector investment, human capital and infrastructural development in African countries. CEGAA’s dynamic team of health and development economists and public health financing experts focuses on:  1. strengthening and supporting the efforts of all levels of government to improve management skills, transparency and accountability for health and HIV/AIDS financing,  2. building the capacity of civil society to monitor and advocate for sound and inclusive budget processes, allocations and expenditures in health and HIV/AIDS.

CEGAA joins forces with the Right2Grow Global Consortium (2021 – 2025)

    Right2Grow

The Dutch government selected the Right2Grow alliance as one of its 20 key strategic civil society partnerships to fund from 2021-2025. An alliance to end undernutrition in all its forms, through community-led approaches and advocacy. The Hunger Project Netherlands is the lead partner in the consortium, working together with World Vision, Action Against Hunger, Save the Children, Max Foundation and CEGAA from South Africa. The winning proposal was jointly developed, starting with co-design workshops in each of the six programme countries: Bangladesh, Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Mali and Burkina Faso. CEGAA leads the budget advocacy and accountability wing of the alliance, working with budget monitoring and expenditure tracking (BMET) partners in the programme countries.
