LESLEY JAYNE - Starway 7 80 w Rocking With My Radio 7 81 w st LP 82 w Not To Be 12 EP 85

Some euro pop I got for a guy who paid me to buy these(first time ever!!)  I have to compare her vocal sound to Altered Images (sorry you can't unsee that).  Just wanted to repost this one as I missed her big 7 and redid the R.I.P. along with Allee Willis, Leon  Haywood, Joe Lala, Mamie Van Doren & Wha-Koo as I switched to a new stylus tip and hadn’t worn it in properly while trying  Studio 1 (196/196 kHz) as test but went back to my normal (96/96 kHz) that I had carefully compared long ago and normally use….yep low tech rules!  I tried Studio 2 long ago on soundcard but immediately changed it as it seemed like too much frequency diminishes the PC sound I e developed since I started here…lesson learned.   Still have to redo Cherry Vanilla this week.  http://mega.nz/file/9u9z1a7Q#pTa85zztEWJf1YugbwAVox54d13luaG-U4kGt0RZALs

MAMIE - As In Mamie Van Doren LP 77 w Ooh Ba La Baby (Her Exciting Rock 'N Roll Recordings 1956-1969) CD 16

I got this when I learned about it after the Ray Anthony   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamie_Van_Doren vinyl I posted as part of the 'dance on Halloween grouping of vinyl I had from Goodwill.  Well I like it and the last song "I Wanna Be Loved' instantly waved hello from the back of my mind being so familiar...was it her version I knew so well from radio or was it the Ginger on Gilligan's Island fame either one but also from TV's Brady Bunch had a fascinating version as well as Marilyn Monroe...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Wanna_Be_Loved_by_You

ALLEE WILLIS - Childstar LP 74 w st [Songwriter] 2LP 79 80 w Bonus songs she wrote

A big thanks to ClassicMusic20 for suggesting this artist to cover here at the DU blog.  Such a great songwriter of the Friend's Theme song and Earth, Wind and Fire's 'September' (which I didn't have) plus a load of others you can listen to and read about in my researched text files included.  R.I.P.

JOE LALA - All Night Lover 7 w 12 EP 85

A special request post for ClassicMusic20 with the WAV files included for the four tracks.  Amazing info on wiki:  Joseph Anthony Lala (November 3, 1947 – March 18, 2014) was an American musician and actor. In 1966, he co-founded the rock band Blues Image.

Lala was born in Ybor City, Tampa, Florida, to parents from Contessa Entellina (an ethnic Albanian community in Sicily). His father was Sicilian, and he left the family when Joe was a child, so he was raised by his mother on her own. Lala's mother, Janie Cacciatore, an avid dancer, took her son to as many shows as she could. Lala spoke fluent Spanish and Italian. He started out playing the drums in several Florida bands, before forming the band Blues Image. He also occasionally sang lead vocals, most notably on the song "Leaving My Troubles Behind". As a drummer and percussionist, he worked with The Byrds, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Manassas, The Stills-Young Band, The Bee Gees, Whitney Houston, Joe Walsh, Andy Gibb and many others. He played the trademark congas that drove the Bee Gees' 1976 US chart-topper You Should Be Dancing, subsequently included on the multi-million selling Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Lala provided the wide selection of percussive effects on Barbra Streisand's 1980 worldwide No. 1 album Guilty, and contributed to Whitney Houston's eponymous 1985 debut album. Throughout his career, Lala accumulated 32 gold records and 28 platinum records. He played on the movie soundtracks of Saturday Night Fever, Staying Alive, D.C. Cab, Streets of Fire, All the Right Moves, Breathless, Defiance, The Lonely Guy and Airplane!. A severe case of carpal tunnel syndrome ended Lala's career as a percussionist. It kept him from performing full-time, but he continued to record with Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, the acoustic band Firefall, Dan Fogelberg, Dolly Parton, Rod Stewart and many others. Joe Lala was the last in the drummer stool for the handful of concerts given in February 1973 by the disintegrating Byrds.

He made the most of his Italian-American background and his mastery of Spanish, Cuban and Puerto Rican accents with TV roles in Miami Vice, General Hospital, Melrose Place, Seinfeld, Hunter, and Who's the Boss?, and starred in a summer replacement show named Knight & Daye. He portrayed another native of Ybor City, Dr. Ferdie Pacheco, in Ali: An American Hero, and co-starred with Andy Garcia in For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story. His films included Active Stealth, Sugar Hill, On Deadly Ground, Deep Sleep, Havana (with Robert Redford), Out for Justice, Marked for Death, Eyewitness to Murder, and Born in East L.A., plus many more.

Lala also guest-starred on several animated shows; Batman: The Animated Series, Pinky and the Brain, Quack Pack, The Angry Beavers, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Danger Rangers, ChalkZone, Johnny Bravo, Ozzy & Drix, Superman: The Animated Series, The Woody Woodpecker Show (the 1999 version), and many more. Additionally, he voiced Kun Lan in the 2005 video game Killer7.

Lala was married to voice director Ginny McSwain from 1996 till their divorce in 2004.

He had ultimately walked away from the entertainment business in the mid-2000s in order to care for his mother, who had dementia. Lala coached young actors at the Italian Club in his native Ybor City.  Joe Lala died from complications of lung cancer on March 18, 2014, at the age of 66.

DANTE'S INFERNO - st LP 79

I had already chosen this a 'disco album of the week' but a few posts below might have qualified anyways.  Kind of funny I tried to rip this years ago not knowing what it sounded like and promptly threw it back as a reject into the vinyl pile.  However, after hearing it again for this post, I kind of like it with me being a 'fire' astrological sign akin to opener track 'Fire Island' and cover shot.

NUMBER ONE ENSEMBLE - st LP 78 w Gipsylon LP 80 w N.O.E. LP 80

A big thank you to Dmitri for sending these files for me to edit in with his Lesley Jayne request right above which I bought for him after flipping me a few bucks.  He must have been quite some club goer back in the day and these bands jettison me back to the club scene.  Missing only the track 'Desperado' from the first album tracks he sent me but maybe a good thing?

KANO - st LP 80

REPOST Request:  From Discogs:  Italian disco/italo-disco/electro project.

Based in Italy, it was led by producers, songwriters and musicians Luciano Ninzatti (guitars), Stefano Pulga (keyboards), and Matteo Bonsanto (producer), often with deep r'n'b vocals from Glen White.

They released three early 1980s albums, scoring dancefloor hits with "I'm Ready / Holly Dolly" (1980), "It's A War" (1980), and "Can't Hold Back (Your Loving)" (1981).

Although Kano is considered the starter of italo-disco by many, it also served as a bridge to electro and breakdance later in the 1980s.

Fitting request per my post of NUMBER ONE ENSEMBLE right above.  This band needs more exploring as here is what I wrote on the first post:  O.K. here's the little monster that got me pulling old disco rejects, since the first song had a bad skip, I pitched it but later I was able to edit that song and the first song on side two to be playable and all the rest make you feel like you got your own little rave going on...I had just taped the old fave movie "Groove" from VHS to MP4 so had my groove going!

LEON HAYWOOD - KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY LP 73 74

This Goodwill find has a great 8 minute tune called 'Long As There's You (I Got Love) and a short instrumental right after it called 'B.M.F. Beautiful' which fits nicely into the SUPER BAD search above that is a key fave genre for me and the former reminds me a bit of Isaac Hayes 'Walk On By', a man who I got to see play with his band in the middle of a UCLA football field shred it up with WAR.  The write-up said he kinda just put out what we wanted in his extensive vinyl releases--not minding about sales what the record company says, however the other tunes are throw away love songs.

DEVICE - 22B3 LP 86

REPOST Request:  The phenomenal Holly Knight plays keyboards (!!!) and shares vocal duties with Paul Engemann while Gene Black is the other member on guitar.

THE GRID - Electric Head LP 90

REPOST Request:  Thanks to Jim over at Discogs--a seller who made four big lists of repost requests that unfortunately were mostly when I used Gofile so links all expired in a week or so!  Since then I have been using mega which last much much longer.   Thanking him because I had a fresh listen to this side project band for Soft Cell guy David Ball and it really is a great release!

Laura Nyro - The First Songs... LP 73 w New York Tendaberry LP 69 w Christmas And The Beads Of Sweat LP 70 w (w Labelle) Gonna Take A Miracle LP 71 w Season Of Lights..In Concert LP 77

REPOST Request:  What I wrote last time:  An early prog innovator with limited song structure.  A couple of these had way too many pops or indent marks during super quiet parts also and modern software I do not have, so a song or two will sound that way.   Also her releases are all out now with tons of bonus songs.  These were like a $1.50 each and I wanted copies for my laptop.  From Discogs:  Real Name: Laura Nigro      Profile: American songwriter, singer, and pianist.    Born: 18 October 1947 in The Bronx, NYC, New York, USA.  Died: 8 April 1997 in Danbury, Connecticut, USA (aged 49).

Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010 and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.

Doonesbury's Jimmy Thudpucker and The Walden West Rhythm Section GREATEST HITS LP 77

ELLEN McILWAINE - HONKY TONK ANGEL LP 72f

REPOST Request:  What I wrote a couple of months ago:  This one is quite good folk and a new artist to me with more to find.  From Discogs:  Ellen McIlwaine (born October 1, 1945, Nashville, Tennessee, USA - June 23, 2021, Calgary, Alberta, Canada) was an American born Canadian singer-songwriter and musician best known for her career as a slide guitarist.

FRANK FONTAINE - IDIOT'S DELIGHT LP 61

I can relate to this guy!  From wiki:  Born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Fontaine came from a family of entertainers. His father, Ray Fontaine, of French-Canadian descent, was a popular vocalist whose career in Canada resulted in his being compared to Bing Crosby. His mother, Anna McCarthy, of Irish and Scottish descent, performed as a dancer, and he had a brother who also became a singer. Fontaine left school and married at age sixteen. Two days before his 17th birthday, he married his childhood sweetheart, Alma Clair Wakeham, and moved to Medford. He went right to work as an all‐purpose singer‐dancer‐comedian in Boston area supper clubs. After Pearl Harbor, he spent three years in the Army.

He had a reputation as a family man, known for being devoted to his wife and children. He would rearrange his schedule so that he was never away from them for too long. In addition, he was well known for the size of his family: he and his wife Alma had two daughters and nine sons.

NO DICE - st LP 78 w Loaded Promo EP 78 w 2 Faced LP 79

REPOST Request:  Going to clip a good review from the comments:  Bruce Brodeen said...

The first album is absolutely AWESOME...gritty, pub-cum-powerpop-hard rocking material. Totally stands up today for my ears. Never could get into the second one but will revisit the material.

You show extremely good taste and intelligence by putting up the UK versions for US folks. I had both versions on vinyl and they are quite different w/ the mixes 'n such. Perhaps the UK version of "Two-Faced" is the same and will be better...well, I'll find out and you have my deep gratitude for giving my the opportunity to give another shot w/ the 2nd album!

CHERRY VANILLA - Bad Girl LP 77 w Venus Divinyl LP 79

REPOST and ADD ON:  I reposted the second album a month ago but did more study and just had to have the first vinyl with 'The Punk'  and other classics!  A good read on wiki.

DIVA Original Soundtrack CD 81

REPOST Request:  I'll post a combination of comments for this as I still haven't seen the movie but putting it on my bucket list:  Oh, you HAVE to see the movie. It's this quirky mid-80s French indie that my friend and I discovered in college. The soundtrack is fine on its own, but you have to see the movie to get the full effect. Kino Lorber just released a remastered Blu-Ray edition several months ago. (early 2022).. you can probably find a copy online still.

It contains a magical piece of piano,"Sentimental Walk."
