  3. The Apollo Stars - ‘Power Of Source’ (Scientologist Jazz)

    image

The Apollo Stars - ‘Power Of Source’
    1974

private press, released by L.Ron Hubbard

Probably the weirdest record as far as the story behind it I own!

Amazing L. Ron Hubbard Scientology funky jazz ensemble from '74, all over the place with a great garage “playing over our heads” feel. The fact that this band was assembled to gather recruits with free “rock concerts” round the world makes it even better.

Recorded on the Apollo ship which the Scientologists lived on in the early 70’s cuz they where banned from about every country around the globe. look at them now!

I’ve included some text files, one except from a book on Hubbard talking about how screwed up the situation was around this band and how folks thought they where the CIA when they’d pull into port and play on the deck of the ship.. Awesome stuff.

  6. Ignatz - I Live in a Utopia (modern blues haze)

    image

    Ignatz - I Live in a Utopia

    2015 - Goaty Tapes

Belgium has customarily been home to a beautiful underworld of electronic music since the early 80s. But Ignatz turns his wandering eye to the loose edges of outsider blues, lo-fi, and post-jandekian speak. I’ve been following Ignatz for a number of years now and his work seems to be getting deeper and deeper with every release. A flowing ramble that will keep you warm through a lonely night. I think the fellow Belgian Raoul Vaneigem would be proud. I present a tape he released last year on Goaty Tapes. Its still available as I type these crooked words and stay tuned for his June 2016 album “The Drain” on kraak and Feeding Tube Records.

    Highly Recommended.

  8. The Haitop (90s Lo-Fi Underground)

    image

    The Haitop - S/T
Lp, Motility Music, 1996, San Francisco, CA

Very obscure mid 90s Lo-Fi Lp in the realm of Shadow Ring, Staked Plain, Tower Recordings, early Smog and Caroliner. Found this Lp years ago in a discount bin in Austin, Texas. Zero information out there on who released the Lp. I only know a few folks who know this Lp. Weirdo 4-track detuned dirges into acoustic cacophony.

    Recommended!

  9. Fondation - Metamorphoses (French Art Psych Underground)

    image

    Fondation - “Metamorphoses"

    Cassette -1980 - France

    via Mutant Sound Archive,

“Not to be confused with the similarly named French underground outfit of the same period La Fondation (whose site is linked off of our sidebar), this Fondation was the baby of Ivan Coaquette and Anannka Raghel, formed upon the dissolution of Coaquette’s devastating and short lived band Spacecraft opposite Red Noise’s Patrick Vian and many years after Coaquette and his then wife Patricia spearheaded a brief formation of Musica Elettronica Viva that can be heard on their Leave The City LP. Psychonauts should take note here, as the work found on Sans Etiquette delves ever deeper into the lysergic tidal pools and time tunnels mapped by fellow French cosmic music movers Heldon and Lard Free, with ectoplasm dripping moire patterns forming from interlocking webs of phasing and pitching synths and asynchronous rhythm machines over which Raghel emits bleary organ flows and delirious moaning.“

Great underground french psych from the early 80s.
