That Paul Newman was one cool, good-lookin’ motherfucker. If I can lead half the life he did, I’ll be a happy and fulfilled man.
An excellent actor and an excellent movie. It’s hard to say who was cooler…Newman or McQueen. McQueen may have taken the cake on pure coolness, but it seems Newman had more developed acting chops. Then again, he had an additional number of years to work on his craft.
My favorite movie. And in JK’s argument, I might be in the minority, but for me it’s all Paul, all day.
That carwashing scene changed my life forever. That, Catherine Bach and the girls of Hee Haw made me what I am today: a guy who knows how to find the rare talent to photograph a girl and a car the right way…

I show this film to my students (High School Sociology class). A fair number of girls do not get it, but a lot of the young guys are BLOWN AWAY. My boss probably hates it, but I think it inspires more thought than about anything else I do with them.
I think it was the best movie ever made.

Filmed in and around Stockton, California. The “jail” was located in what is now a public park given to the city by the Hammer family. I drove by the movie set many times during filming, and still think of the movie when I drive by the park almost daily.
