Germany vs England

As usual the media over here are going mental with the build up for this game. Strangly,England are slight favourite's to win the game and everyone is on a wave of optimism. Yes,even it comes down to penalties the 3 Lions will still roar on to glory!

Its all bollocks of course. Its the Germans isn't it. I am mentally prepared for disappointment. I am expecting us to go out. Anything else is a massive bonus.

My prediction

Germany 1 England 1 extra time and you-know-who to win on penalties

PROVE ME WRONG ENGLAND!

Edit: Oh well, same old England. Well done Germany, you deserved the victory :(

Generation X on Top Of The Pops

Some Generation X for you from Top Of The Pops. Its a shame video recorders were not around when all the good punk stuff was around but thanks to UK Gold and the TOTP2 shows, alot of the vintage footage reappeared. Its a great shame they have to ruin most of the footage with all that stupid writing but beggars can't be choosers I suppose. All in one file you have Your Generation,Wild Youth,Ready Steady Go,2 performances of King Rocker and Valley Of The Dolls. Alas no Friday's Angel's though. 14 minutes long and 134mb.

Just a word on last night - well there was no Lurkers as mentioned below but a good night all round. I didn't bother watching Pineapple UK - too busy drinking and yapping outside. The Bus Station Loonies were as mad as ever but it was a great set. Theres a new Loonies album out in September too. As for Vice Squad, well I was very impressed. Beki looked stunning and I managed to have a good yap to her (and a couple of hugs and kisses :) Not many there and the ones that did bother didn't seem up for it but the longer the gig went on,the better it got. And I've got a raging hangover for my trouble too!

Tracks

1) Your Generation
2) Wild Youth
3) Ready Steady Go
4) King Rocker (1st appearance)
5) King Rocker (2nd appearance)
6) Valley Of The Dolls

Beki Bondage - 4 Videos

Well I'm off to see The Lurkers and Vice Squad tomorrow down at the Hippo in Plymouth. It will be the first time I've seen The Lurkers since early '78 (they were the first punk band I ever saw) As for Vice Squad,I saw them twice around '82 but never since. To celebrate this occasion here are some Beki vids - 3 of them are Beki's solo band and are studio demos and the first one is her band after Vice Squad,Ligotage.

I'm so looking forward to seeing these bands once again after so many years.

Edit: Well I was looking forward to seeing the Lurkers but they ain't playing now ffs!

Its all or nothing time for England today. Lets have no more piss-poor performances please. There can be no more excuses today. Failure to win,and we'll be an bigger laughing stock than the French team.

Don't let us down today England!

Sid! By Those Who Really Knew Him (Movie Trailer)

I haven't brought this movie yet and I'm wondering if anyone out has and if so,what do you think of it? This isn't the movie of course but it is a 19 minute trailer which was the extra's feature on the excellent (albeit for the highly annoying background music) Sex Pistol's DVD,Who Killed Bill?
Included in this trailer are snippets from the likes of Jah Wobble,Marco Pirroni,Viv Abertine,Siouxsie,Steve Severin,Dave Vanian,Rat Scabies,Caroline Coon and Glen Matlock amongst others.

The DVD claims to be the most definitive and intimate story of the punk hero by those who really knew him. Anyone got any feedback on it before Longy splashes the cash? The trailer certainly looks promising in my opinion.

Therapy? - Bizzare Festival,Köln,23/08/98

This is what all England fans need - nearly an hour of bloody good Therapy?! 190mb and just the one link, its one of Northern Ireland's finest at the Bizarre open air festival in 1998. I couldn't help but notice the bloke introducing the band at the start with his vintage '98 yellow Chelsea FC away shirt. A great set from the band (one I can't be bothered to type out) but I can tell you the opening song should be dedicated to the England team (Going Nowhere)

Shane MacGowan - If I Should Fall From Grace: The Shane MacGowan Story (2000)

Any sane person with decent taste would already have seen this one but for the few of you who might not have, here is a terrific documentary which is an almost 91 minutes long. Jeff Shannon sums this up perfectly.........

"As any Pogues fan could've told you, The Shane MacGowan Story was destined to be funny, sad, uplifting, depressing, and utterly irresistible. By the time this engaging documentary was produced in 2000, MacGowan-former Pogues frontman, notorious drinker, and one of the greatest songwriters of his generation--was still the unrepentant alcoholic who caused his former bandmates so much worry. They loved him then and love him still (bandmate Philip Chevron speaks most eloquently of their history), and for all his toothless cackling and constant stupor, MacGowan is seen here as an amiable Irish pub-crawler, coherent in thought if not always in speech, still making music (with his latter-day band, the Popes), and obviously devoted to his wife, Victoria Clarke, an enabling saint whose love for MacGowan is joyfully unconditional. Archival clips, video excerpts, and interviews with MacGowan's friends and family complete this comprehensive chronicle, making it an essential addition to any punk-'n-Pogues library"

For me,Shane MacGowan is a living legend. I don't think theres anyone alive today who had written such great songs especially love songs (A Rainy Night In Soho probably my favourite of all time) I will openly admit, when Shane does die (and I'm amazed he hasn't already given his lifestyle) I will cry my bloody eyes out.

And in case you didn't know Shane is now back touring with The Pogues and has also been busy teaming up with the likes of Mick Jones,Glen Matlock,Johnny Depp,Nick Cave,Bobby Gillespie,Chrissie Hynde,Paloma Faith and Eliza Doolittle to release a fantastic old classic for the charity "Concern" to help the people of Haiti. Read about it and order the song here http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=327930934009 (its only 79p in digital form) You don't need a facebook account to view that page either so click on it!

As I said its 79p. What are you waiting for?

Wendy O Williams Interview (Nite Flight)1982

Following on from the last post and also not on that fabulous Plasmatics DVD,heres an interview with the late Wendy O Williams from American TV from 1982. A rare insight into her life and a very interesting watch. This one clocks in at 24 and a half minutes and is 235mb. It was ripped from TV by someone so whoever you were, well done.

The Plasmatics - Bremen,Germany 05-02-81

Well I finally got my Plasmatics DVD from Mr E Bay of the USA. Was it worth the wait? Too fucking right it was. Fantastic stuff and 3 hours of pure pleasure. A fast paced 2 hour documentary (I thought the bird narrating it was on speed!) plus one hour of extras which was worth the money alone. And just to make things better,I find this little beauty on Soulseek last night which wasn't even on the said DVD. 3 tracks from German TV here and a belting, some might say typical,Plasmatics performance including the chainsawing of a guitar, the destruction of a tv set and of course the blowing up of a car. All in a days work for the late great Wendy O Williams. 81mb and 12 and a half minutes long.

Tracks

1) Butcher Baby
2) Living Dead
3) Dream Lover

Who's Going To Win The World Cup?

Its not long now until The World Cup and I for one can't wait for this festival of football. It only comes round once every four years and being an England fan,you can't beat a good old-fashioned national disappointment like a good penalty shoot-out defeat.

The big question is - Who's going to win the thing? I've bunged £20 on Brazil at 9/2 just to get a run for my money and I've stuck £10 on Argentina at 7/1 because I have a sneaking feeling they will do well despite Maradona being the Manager. My total dark horse outsiders (who I haven't backed because even I'm not stupid) are Chile.

What about you lot? Who do you reckon is going to be picking up that glorious trophy in South Africa?

Radio Birdman - Marriotville Hotel, Adelaide 21-9-77

The Saints were not the only great band to have come out of Australia. There were many many including Radio Birdman. This clip is off an Aussie TV show. 4 tracks including a great version of the classic "Search & Destroy" 13 minutes and 129mb and of course, non DVD quality!
