The Damned - Maritime Hall,San Francisco 28/02/98

This is one I prepared last week in the likely event of a severe hangover. This ones a little bit dark on the picture side but its still well worth having and the sound is very good too. Its also 92 minutes long - that means over an hour and a half of the one the greatest bands to ever the grace the planet. Now I'm far too fucked to write out a tracklist but you know what to expect and its a reasonable 421mb size. Use HJ-Split to join the files together http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

The Damned - Finland TV (1981)

A bit more of The Damned for you and I make absolutely no apoligises for that at all as the band are universally loved. This was on Finnish TV back in 1981. It looks like some outdoor festival but I couldn't tell you which one. Just a 12 minute clip at 120mb,only the four songs and not exactly DVD quality but well worth a look.

Tracks

1) Wait For The Blackout
2) Lively Arts
3) I Just Can't Be Happy Today
4) Hit And Miss

The Damned - New Rose 12'' EP (1985)

I don't need an excuse to put The Damned on here but as I saw them last night, here they are anyway.

Last nights gig......well by the time we got there which was early (7.30pm) Girlschool were already playing and played very well in front of a large but static audience. I felt a bit sorry for them really and they deserved better but going on that early isn't going to help. I got my wish with Race For The Devil anyway.

Next up The Damned who kicked off with New Rose and it was bedlam down the front. Alas there were some of local tossers down there trying to cause trouble. Not punks or metalheads....just 20 something Janners with nothing better to do. They didn't get there wish but the atmosphere was not as relaxed as The Specials last week. Anyway the blinding Damned set included Street Of Dreams,Neat Neat Neat, Disco Man,Love Song,Smash It Up,Elouse and an awesome Lookin' At You. I think they were on for about 45 minutes which isn't bad for a "support" band but in reality for fans of The Damned, not long enough. They went down well though considering the majority of the crowd were metalheads.

Next up Motorhead and an odds-on headache. Lemmy is a legend isn't he and the whole place shook as they hammered their songs out. They played alot of new stuff and although its very good (off the Motorizer album) I wanted a greatest hits session so I was a tiny bit miffed. The best part was yet to come though and it was "fitting" that on the 11th day of the 11th month they ended their set with Bomber. I remember saying to my mate "If the encore isn't Overkill and Ace Of Spades I won't be happy" so when the band came on to the distinctive opening mayhem of Ace Of Spades I was happy and the place went off. We were pogoing I think lol. And the night was complete when those thundering drums went into Overkill (the 12'' long version) and I enjoyed this one more than any other. Bloody brilliant song.

Overall out of 10 this gig gets a 9.5. It wasn't as good a night as The Specials but I don't think anything will be. My head is hurting but what do you expect after Lemmy & co. I was disappointed that Lemmy didn't come on and do a song with The Damned and also the fact that Girlschool didn't join Motorhead for a St Valentines Day Massacre (Please Don't Touch) but maybe I'm asking too much. Was it worth £25 quid? Hell yes!

Tracks

1) New Rose
2) Neat Neat Neat
3) Help
4) Stretcher Case
5) Sick Of Being Sick

The Damned - Live At The Hippo Club 22-02-96

What do you do when you arrive for a gig and you realise your lead singer hasn't turned up? Well if you happen to be in The Damned you carry on regardless. So here is one of England's finest performing without the missing Dave Vanian (The Captain is on vocals) for this 65 minute gig. 477mb in size.

The Damned - New Rose (White Vinyl With One Sided Live Freebie) 7'' (1986)

New Rose needs no introduction of course. A classic uploaded in a thousand places by every man and beast. This re-issue came out in 1986 (cheers for the correction Marky) on white vinyl and included a one-sided live 7''. Although the freebie is entitled "Im So Bored" it is in fact a live version version of The Damned's "I Fall" which as you all know is a completely different song altogether.

Tracks

1) New Rose
2) Help
3) I'm So Bored (Live) (but its not really!)

The Damned - Alone Again Or CD Single (1987)

A bit of history here. Not only were the Damned the first UK Punk band to bring out a 7'' single (and album) but they were also the first UK Punk band to bring out a CD single too - at least I think they were. If you know different then say so. This one actually came in a 7'' picture cover on a special CD tray complete with instruction sheet on how to get the CD out of the tray. Honest,I'm not making this up. Download it and see for yourself.

Tracks

1) Alone Again Or
2) Eloise
3) In Dulce Decorum (LIve)
4) Psychomania (Live)

The Damned - Thanks For The Night 12'' Shaped Picture Disc (1984)

Theres only 1000 of these rarities in this format which comes a rather nice shaply picture disc complete with plinth. Another one that looks funny on the turntable - I keep thinking she's gonna get her head chopped off!
Tracks

1) Thanks For The Night
2) Nasty

The Damned - Something Weird (Bootleg) 7'' (Year = Unknown)

I've got no idea what year this one came out. This is a bootleg single (live recordings) and it certainly sounds like it too. The first 2 tracks on side 1 are extremely rough but L.A. Woman on the B side is quite listenable. Theres no information about where this was recorded just a plain blank label and extremely thick vinyl. A limited edition of just 200.

Tracks

1) Lively Arts
2) I Just Can't Be Happy Today
3) L.A. Woman

The Damned - Grimly Fiendish Picture Disc 7'' (1985)

Picture discs are notorious for jumping so it was a rare pleasant surprise when this one didn't! Not the most loved Damned song by any stretch but still catchy and as its the Damned, still good.

The Damned - Is It A Dream 12'' (1985)

Well it was obvious I was leading up to some Damned. This version of Is It A Dream is over 8 minutes long and may please the odd Damned fan. The other side of the 12'' features 4 live tracks from London. Unfortunately,Curtain Call jumped once but whats new eh?

Tracks

1) Is It A Dream (Wild West Express Mix)
2) Street Of Dreams (Live)
3) Curtain Call (Live)
4) Pretty Vacant (Live)
5) Wild Thing (Live)

The Phantom Chords - Johnny Remember Me 7'' (1990)

Keeping with Damned related stuff, I bring you Dave Vanian's Phantom Chords. Johnny Remember Me is of course a golden oldie while the B side is a very good intrumental track written by Vanian.

This one came in a special pack (all the "attempted" artwork included) which apparently changes colour. Being colourblind, I wouldn't know sod all about that marlarki.
Tracks

1) Johnny Remember Me
2) Ghost Train

Captain Sensible - Glad Its All Over 12'' (1984)

The title track is dedicated to Christmas and all the false bollox that comes with it. Happy Talk is dedicated to this blog because we are all happy here! It was of course also a number 1 single in the UK and despite being absolutely shite, a victory for Punks Rockers everywhere! The Captain milked it and I don't blame him one bit! Damned On 45 is dedicated to anyone that wants it.

Tracks

1) Glad Its All Over
2) Happy Talk
3) Damned On 45
