The Crack - Don't You Ever Let Me Down 7'' (1982)

Inspired by Sarah's posting over the excellent http://rbkwh.blogspot.com/ here is another single by The Crack. The band won a Battle Of The Bands competition back in '82 which was on National TV and was apparently judged by Noddy Holder. I don't remember seeing it myself.....does anyone? Anyway this 7'' was taken from the V/A Battle Of The Bands Vol 2 album and was also on the later In Search Of The Crack album. The B side was on neither.

Wendy & Lemmy - Stand By Your Man 7'' (1982)

And staying with the late Wendy O Williams, here she teamed up with Motorhead legend Lemmy to belt out this old Tammy Wynette"classic" Crackly as heck this one I'm afraid. Wendy sings a version of Motorheads No Class on the B side and Lemmy sings The Plasmatics song,Masterplan.

The Plasmatics - Butcher Baby 12'' (1980)

I recently brought this for 25p on Ebay. It was so cheap because of the scribbles on the back cover and label (someone pretending to autograph the cover) Still for 25p,I'm not gonna knock it. Plasmatics were one of those bands I just wish I had seen. Video footage tells me that much! If anyone was lucky enough to see them then feel free to describe the experience via the comments.

Another Spiral Scratch magazine freebie. This ones an interview with Siouxsie while the Banshees were on tour in Germany in 1988 which lasts around 15 minutes. I haven't seen this anywhere else in blogland and there was only 5000 made. Like all the other Spiral Scatch Freebies,it never came with a picture cover.

Pink Section - Tour Of China 7'' (1979)

Pink Section were from San Francisco I believe. I don't know much about them but I think this was the first of the two singles they brought out. Perhaps Kennyhel can enlighten us. I love this single - its wierd and bombed out and grows on you. Another one plucked out of the bargain basement section many moons ago (for 15p)

Iggy And The Stooges - She Creatures Of Hollywood Hills (Spiral Scratch Freebie) 7'' (1989)

We haven't had any Spiral Scratch Freebie's for a while so have this one from the legend that is Iggy Pop. The Stooges originally recorded these songs way back in '73. I'll be honest,I'm not that keen on either song myself but someone might like it (or not)

Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop 7'' (1976)

This needs no introduction and unfortunately this particular one doesn't come with a picture cover who I've borrowed it from Mr Discogs. Most people that haven't heard this 7'' will assume its exactly the same versions of the songs that are on the debut Ramones LP. Well they ain't so in case you haven't ever had the pleasure, here is the first ever Ramones single.

Theatre Of Hate - Do You Believe In The Westworld 12'' (1982)

The classic Do You Believe In The Westworld catapulted Theatre Of Hate to fame back in '82. Not their best one by a long shot in my opinion but still great. This 12'' features extended versions of both Westworld and the excellent Propaganda as well as the normal versions and just for good measure theres another version of the brilliant Original Sin to round things off.

Incee Wincee Spider - Don't Know Anything 7'' (1988)

If you've never heard of Incee Wincee Spider then don't worry......you are not alone. Don't Know Anything is a very apt title because I truely don't know anything about this band at all. All I do know is its got a great guitar riff and I'm glad I paid 2 quid for it on the off-chance on ebay the other week. Does anyone know anything about this lot?

Dead Kennedys - Holiday In Cambodia 7'' (1980)

Nipping back briefly to the Dead Kennedys, this is in my opinion their greatest single. But is the B side better than the A side? Its just as good in my opinion but if I had to choose I would say yes it is. What do you think? Go on be brave and answer one of the hardest unsanswered questions in Punk Rock history. Holidays In Cambodia or Police Truck? No sitting on the fence allowed!

Carrier Bags Vs The Enviroment

I'm all for helping the enviroment but for christs sake, can't I even go shopping without having a bloody row about a carrier bag. This is not the first time its happened. First the Co-op,thenTescos and today Somerfield. On the way back from town ,I decided to get some food so into Somerfield I wander. One basket of shopping (approx 2 carrier bags worth) and up to the til I went. The conversation went something like this.....

Me "Can I have a couple of Carrier Bags please"

Assistant "Would you like to buy a bag for life for 10p and re-use it"

Me "No,can I just have couple of carrier bags please"

Assistant "With these re-useable bags you can bring them with you when you come back"

Me "I don't really have massive pockets for your bag and when I go out, bringing a super carrier bag is the last thing on my mind. Its bad enough remembering my keys and wallet and I don't carry a hand-bag"

Assistant " Its only 10p and you'll be saving the enviroment"

Me "I'll give you 10p extra just to shut you up mate. I just want 2 carrier bags please. Its a shop and I'm shopping"

Assistant "But you can use these bags for life"

Me "Look, can I just have some carrier bags please. I'm not going to have a row about it"

Assistant "Don't you want to save the enviroment then"

Me "I already do in many other ways, now are you going to give me the bags"

Assistant " We are gradually phasing carrier-bags out and soon they'll be no bags. I'll let you have them this time"

Me "Thanks,I'm eternally grateful. Don't worry,I won't come back and soon neither will anyone else. I can shop online like 99% of the population and soon,it will be your job they'll be phasing out"

Assistant "Theres no need to speak to me like that"

Me "Yes there is,you're a twat"

Is it just me or has the world gone enviromentally stupid?

Dead Kennedys - Too Drunk To Fuck 7'' (1981)

The great Dead Kennedys broke into the UK top 40 back in 1981 with this one. Unsurprisingly, they never read out the title when doing the Top Of The Pops chart rundown like they did with every other song. I remember finding quite funny at the time.

Cockney Rejects - Bad Man 7'' (1980)

The third single by the Cockney Rejects. A little bit of Longy history here. The Rejects only played here once back in 1980 at Clones in Plymouth and this was the last time I didn't get in at a gig due to my age. I was gutted and it was only a pound to get in too. Luckily Stiff Little Fingers were also playing here that very same night over at the Poly so I coughed up £2.50 and went and saw them instead. I gave this picture cover to my sister (who did get in) to get signed and she got 50% of the Rejects (Stinky and Micky's) and for some reason the drummer of the Kidz Next Door who were supporting signed it as well.

dedicated to a certain Norwegian Referee.

The Damned - Alone Again Or CD Single (1987)

A bit of history here. Not only were the Damned the first UK Punk band to bring out a 7'' single (and album) but they were also the first UK Punk band to bring out a CD single too - at least I think they were. If you know different then say so. This one actually came in a 7'' picture cover on a special CD tray complete with instruction sheet on how to get the CD out of the tray. Honest,I'm not making this up. Download it and see for yourself.

The Adicts - Lunch With The Adicts EP (1979)

The debut single and in my opinion, still the best single from The Adicts.
Tracks

1) Easy Way Out
2) This Week
3) Straight Jacket
4) Organised Confusion

I might not make the rest of it but I'm definately going to see Chumbawamba tonight! All I need now is an undernourished dog and some string.

Edit

Well that was a surreal experience. Apparently it was very busy during the day. Not so last night. All of 100 people mostly old militant types and a few youngsters like myself : -) The whole set from Chumba was acoustic not a drum kit in site. Took a while to get used to this but overall I really enjoyed it. Beer was £1.50 which pleased me. Funniest moment of the night was after the show my mate went to talk to Alice Nutter and asked her who was singing the song which was currently playing (The Red Flag.....the same one adapted by my beloved Football Team) She replied "I'm NOT Alice Nutter. It was the wrong bird (the trumpet player) And no she had no idea who sang The Red Flag song. Quite funny considering they were giving it the big one all through the gig. But they were right about one thing. It certainly was like being in church!

The Members - Romance 7'' (1980)

Another single from The Members. This is another one I didn't like much at the time but I'm mellowing with age and it sounds pretty pleasant to the old ears now. The B side is good too.

Worried About Swine Flu?

Me neither!

The Distributors - Lean On Me 7'' (1980)

Todays tasty treat is some "post-punk" from The Distributors. Gang Of Four meets Joy Division meets The Short Bus Window Lickers. Okay I'm lying about the Short Bus Window Lickers : - )

This was the 2nd of their 3 singles. Has anyone got the other two they want to share? Lean On Me has one of those basslines you will never forget even if you hear it just the once. Some may consider it a tad repeditive too but not me. I like it.

These songs were originally recorderd in 1978 but it wasn't until 1998 that this was released. Its the very same glam-punkers who put out Man In The Box and the Speed Freak EP (both of which I don't own) This is still available brand new on ebay for a bargain £2.99.
