I have read through other reviews and this is my opinion now on this album. If like me, you are a big Echo fan this is a great album to purchase. It is one the best since Echo re-formed (mainly just Ian and Will).
Anyhow I have all of Echo's albums plus Ian solo and Electrifixion stuff, so I think I can judge this album open-minded. While most of the critics of this album are looking for another "Heaven Up Here" "Ocean Rain" "Porcupine" type of album they miss the point and therefore the enjoyment of this album. Those days are behind them, bands, like people change over years or they simply become mundane,or worse a parody of themselves.
If you enjoyed the sleek polished '87 self-titled album ( the last album of the original members before Pete's tragic death) I am certain you will enjoy this one. As was stated in another review this is one of their most cohesive albums since re-forming. Not one bad song on here and some that our outstanding. If you are thinking about buying this album and haven't bought a Echo album since '87 then this is the one to buy. If you really like this album then I would recommend "Flowers" as your next purchase, as it has some very good songs on it.
Both of these albums feature Will's distinct jangling and superb gutiar stylings, along with Ian's smoke drenched vocals. Both are top notch!! As for the other two Echo albums since Will and Ian re-formed the band; "Evergreen" and "What Are You Going To Do With Your Life" they are good albums, but not great. Any true fan must have them, as there are some good songs on them, But nowhere near as good as the other two.
So to sum up, if you are looking for early 80's Doors sounding Echo material forget it, as they probably will never do that again. But if you REALLY like Echo through all their years as the second most famous band from Liverpool then buy this album with confidence.
