A mere three years ago, zzyzx posted the top rock hits from half a century ago.
Walrus responded — and his commentary is in parentheses.
From this list, I’d say “My Love” “Cover of the Rolling Stone,” and “Live and Let Die” leave them all in the dust, but most are still unforgettable. “You’re So Vain” will probably never go away from the culture.
“Money,” “Space Oddity” — OK.
But I wonder how a current Top-100 list would hold up fifty years from now. (Especially if any song containing the n-word were eliminated from competition.)
1973 wasn’t the best year for music….Top Hits of 1973
