GENERAL-NEWSBAT (Basic Attention Token) can now be tipped directly to Reddit users with the click of a button! Also works on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, and Github (self.CryptoCurrency)

I noticed a new icon on Reddit today, the BAT logo with the word "Tip" beside it. This is showing up next to every Reddit post and comment, presumably to Brave browser users only. After a little research I found that you can connect your Reddit account by signing up at https://creators.brave.com. From there you can link your Reddit as well as YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, and Github.

EDIT: Apparently this is not new. I just started using Brave a week ago, so I guess I just didn't notice the icon until now!

I'm gonna honest I dont get BAT. I use firefox with ublock orgin and havent seen a need for Brave. Is there any benefit besides the option to earn BAT to switch to Brave?

It's based on Chromium. So all Chrome plugins work with Brave. It's like Chrome with Steroids.

Aside from that, there's a native crypto wallet built-in on Brave.

I make around 10-15 BAT per month by just normal browsing. So that's not bad at all. Currently using it as my default browser in all my devices (mobile and computer), so that I make more BAT per month.

Why is that a negative in your books? Chromium's open source nature allows Brave to exist and Brave is a competitor to Google Chrome.

Considering that Google Chrome is the dominant web browser and therefore what most people are familiar with it, it is a great thing that Brave is chromium based. It provides an easy transition away from Google Chrome with all the familiar plugins.

If you use Firefox and are happy with it, theres no reason to switch. For people using Google Chrome and want to have some more privacy and free cypto, its a great alternative.

Every major browser except firefox is blink based. Google is not our friend and should not be given control of any market even something like web browsers.

There's no point of competing if a certain browser is literally unbeatable. If you can't beat them, join them. That's why the Javascript creator and Mozilla co-founder didn't built a browser from scratch, like they did with Mozilla Firefox. They used the best browser framework available and built on it. No need to re-invent the wheel.

Brave started with Graphene, migrated to Electron, then later to Chromium. And sticked with it.

Brave is really slow back then until they migrated to Chromium.

Now it's super fast and keeps on getting better. My friends who aren't into crypto even use Brave.

As for me I use multiple browsers except IE. But Brave is my default browser.

Anyway, we all have our preferences.

I have done research and I'm not sure how brave beats firefox with all telemetry and tracking turned off and ublock. Plus with most of the main browsers being chromium based, brave included, it's starting to give Google an unnecessary market share in the browser engine arena. I'm trying to ungoogle my life in all aspects so I need brave to do something better than be just as good as firefox while contributing to Googles oversaturation in everything

nice i just made an account, plus the adblocker and speed from brave browser is a nice product too, the BAT u get from ads isnt that much but ads arent even noticed because u dont need to click them, the notification is enough. Cant wait for the brave search engine and using duckduck meanwhile.

I love Brave the browser itself the ads income is a bonus for me. I started using the browser years ago and now have made 0.46 ETH from the BAT I earned from ads and converting to ETH. Not bad for something I'd be doing anyways!

Brave/BAT is an awesome project. I'm really hyped by their roadmap for 2021. I activated my Creator account with Reddit a couple of weeks ago, obviously no tip yet (my activity is not really tip-oriented on Reddit :p) but so happy to be part of the ecosystem.

I was really happy to see that mainstream apps like Signal allow donation in BAT.

2021 could be an amazing year for Brave, now we wait :)

It seems like one of the safest investments in crypto right now. Even if BTC crashed, I think BAT could hold its ground somewhat given its use cases. Advertisers will still want to advertise.

I'm not so sure, BTC still has a huge dominance (around 60%). It's the main entry point for people to join the cryptospace. If BTC would crash (and really crash, not just the cyclic correction), FUD would be everywhere regarding cryptos... Institutions would back out, government would be afraid, etc etc. Not trying to FUD here, this is not happening and I'm not convinced it will happen, but on the theory that BTC would crash, I don't think BAT would really survive.

I guess I know nothing, and let's hope for the best :)

users dont receive the whole tip, brave takes a percentage and it takes a month or sometimes more for them to receive it. and after that, it doesnt go directly to the user, it get sent to the users Uphold account.

    I'd save Brave's, I believe the code is inserted by the Brave browser, it's not actually part of Reddit's website code. I don't know how responsive Brave's support team is but I'll see if I can get a message to them about it.

    Yeah if you don't mind the ads then 100% go for it. Personally for me, it is not worth the hassle for such low amounts, some of my friends have been using it and they got between 50 cents and $2 per month with max ad rate.

    To compare it to moons, you can get 50 cents worth of moons if you manage to get 14 upvotes during a whole month, so yeah it's on a totally differet level.

    in the US here. I've gotten a few hundred BAT since I've been using Brave for >1 year. Ads pop up for me on Windows and Android.
