Part 9 of a series I have been doing since the beginning of the season:
There's a lot to overreact to in any given week (Are the Ravens the best team in the NFL? Is taking Bryce Young over CJ Stroud the next Trubisky over Mahomes? Are the Vikings a playoff team? Is Josh Allen going the way of Carson Wentz? ext...)
Instead, let's spend some time talking about the opposite - storylines that may have flown under the radar or otherwise just aren't getting the attention they deserve. Some things I think people are underreacting to or otherwise deserve more discussion:
-
The woeful performance by the Cardinals is masking just how freaking bad the Browns offense was: Deshaun Watson went 19-30 for 219 yards. He had a QBR of 41.6 Neither Jerome Ford nor Kareem Hunt could get 3 yards per carry. As a team they averaged 2.8 yards per carry. The Browns managed just 17 First Downs in a game where they shut the opponent out. They were 6-17 on 3rd down. 7 of their 14 possessions ended in punts. Make no mistake, the Browns aren't going to win anything of significance with this kind of offensive performance. Cleveland's defense pitched a shutout, and the offense was mediocre at best.
-
The Seahawks Pass Protection has completely vanished: The Ravens are arguably the best team in the NFL right now, but even so, the good times have ended for Geno Smith and the Seahawks. Through the first several weeks, the O-Line was being praised - they were keeping Geno clean and giving him time to move around in the pocket (or take off if he wanted) and that's why they were able to beat the Lions in Week 2. That pass protection has completely dried up, and it's not even due to injury. The past 4 games he has been sacked 11 times and hit a total of 23 times. Seattle has regressed significantly.
-
The Chiefs defense continues to be the unit winning them games while the offense underperforms: The Chiefs offense scored a TD on their opening drive in Frankfurt. And they scored 1 other time. That was it. The rest of their possessions (not counting End-of-Half/End-of-Game knees) all ended in 6 punts and a fumble. They had just four first downs in the entire second half. The defense getting a scoop and score than then forcing a TO on Downs in the 4th quarter won them the game. The offense was putrid. Mahomes had a QBR of 45.1 The Chiefs are nowhere close to being the best team in the league right now, solidly coming in below the Ravens, the Eagles, and arguably even the Lions and Cowboys.
-
The Bills are actually not even a playoff team: If the season ended today, the Bills would be outside the playoffs. But that's a lazy argument. Instead let's look at the rest of their schedule: Broncos, Jets, @ Philly, BYE, @ KC, Cowboys, @ Chargers, Pats, @ Dolphins. There are 3 games that theoretically should be layups here, and they (given what we know right now), should be favored against the Chargers. Bet even if they win all 4 of those games, the other 4 are against some of the best teams in the NFL. 9 wins is very unlikely to win you a Wildcard slot in the AFC this year. With the Chargers having evened up their record, and with every team in the AFC North fighting tooth and nail for a playoff berth, the Bills have put themselves in a really bad situation. Frankly they haven't done shit since beating the Dolphins a month ago, and they were a goal-to-go situation from losing to one of the worst teams in football. It's no longer a hot take to say that the Bills will probably miss the playoffs entirely.
I figured I'd share this.

A Subreddit for all talk about the Los Angeles Chargers, part of the NFL in the AFC West division.
At the beginning of the season, the map is divided into 32 regions, each controlled by a team in the NFL. When a team defeats another team, if the defeated team controls any land, that land is taken by the winner.

Territory Changes
The Jets lost 8 territories to the Chargers
The Seahawks lost 8 territories to the Ravens
Leaderboard
TEAM | # OF TERRITORIES |
---|---|
Ravens | 14 |
Chargers | 8 |
Jaguars | 6 |
Bengals | 2 |
Broncos | 2 |
Jaguars have held the most territory this season (33).
Bears, Panthers, Patriots, Titans, and Vikings are tied for least territory held (1).
To get these scores, I gave each team a point for each territory they held per week (so if a team held 4 territories for 5 weeks, they would get 20 points)
Upcoming Battles
The Bengals are battling the Texans
The Broncos are battling the Bills
The Chargers are battling the Lions
The Jaguars are battling the 49ers
The Ravens are battling the Browns
In all fairness, BoB is a defensive coach for his career and it was his 1st year ever coaching offense /s
EDIT: lmfao at all the Pats fans with mental gymnastics to reconcile this FACT. Matty P didn't have Mac for 2 games last year and he's still outcoached BoB.

If the rumors are true and Pittsburgh hosts the 2026 draft, what venue do you think will be used? Acrisure? Convention Center? Point State Park?
AFC North - Browns (1989)
NFC North - Lions (1993)
(Titans and Jags won AFC "North" more recently than the Browns. The Bucs have won the NFC "North" more recently than the Lions)
Other droughts
AFC West - Raiders (2002)
AFC East - Jets (2002)
NFC East - Giants (2011)
AFC South - Colts (2014)
NFC South - Panthers (2015)
NFC West - Cardinals (2015)
Special shout out to the Miami Dolphins who can also potentially end their drought since 2008. I won't mention the Chargers.

Does someone have a solid reason why they won’t flex that game? The hype of that game is really big right now and it would be dumb on NFL’s part not to capitalize on Stroud’s last game. I thought this was the entire purpose of creating the right to flex any game they want? Only reason I don’t see it being flexed is because it involves big market teams.
