NBA
If you're reading this, there's an astronomically high chance you're aware Victor Wembanyama recorded 38 points and 10 rebounds in a win over the Suns last night.
If he had reached 40, he would have been the fourth player ever to do so in the first five games of their rookie season. And if you're superstitious, you might find it a good thing he didn't, considering the company he'd be in.
Alex Groza, in his fourth game as an NBA player, scored 41 points for the Indianapolis Olympians in an 83-79 win over the New York Knicks. And he did it in front of the largest crowd the Knicks had ever hosted at the time.
In the offseason following his second season in the league, Groza was arrested for conspiracy and bribery, the highest-profile by far of 30 former college stars—some who, like him, were by then in the NBA—involved in a mafia-run match fixing scandal. Though he avoided prison time as part of a plea deal, Alex Groza was barred from the NBA for life. A part-owner of his team, he was also forced to sell his shares upon threat of the league dissolving the franchise if he didn't.
John Drew, in his third game as an NBA player, scored 41 points and snagged 18 rebounds for the Atlanta Hawks in a 125-92 dismantling of the 76ers.
In the middle of his eleventh NBA season, while trying to catch on with Washington after being waived by the Jazz a month earlier, Drew received a lifetime ban from the NBA (with the possibility of reinstatement after two years) for his third drug offense according to league policy. He did not ever apply for reinstatement.
If you're guessing the other player to have done this is Wilt Chamberlain, you'd be correct. He scored 40+ in two of his first three NBA games. 43 points and 28 rebounds in his debut; 41 points and 40 rebounds two games later.

The NBA In-Season tournament starts today. The tournament has two distinct parts: the group stage and the bracket stage. There are 3 groups of 5 teams per conference that were selected before the season started. The group stage is round robin format - every team in each group plays every other team in the group once. The winners of each group advance to the bracket stage. Since there are only 3 groups per conference, a wildcard team (the “best of the rest”) is promoted to the final bracket slot in each conference. The bracket is single elimination and plays out like any other bracket tournament. All games count toward the regular season except the final East vs West championship game on Dec 9th.
Where you might be confused:
-
How do they fit this in with the regular season? - This season has 82 games per team as usual but with only 80 games already set in stone (date and opponent decided). The group stage games are woven into the first ~20 games of the schedule and the last ~60 games after Dec. 9th are set and not affected by the tournament. Every team currently has 2 games where the opponent is TBD (Example schedule). If you’re in the bracket tournament, you play the bracket opponents. If you didn’t qualify or get knocked out, you’ll play “make-up” games against other teams not in the tourny. Every team will play two games over the course of the tournament that count toward the regular season so that every team has 82 at the end.
-
What do the winners get? - Every player in the bracket tournament gets a flat cash bonus depending on how far their team goes. The bracket champ gets 500k per player and runner up gets 250k per player. There are smaller bonuses for the other bracket finishes. There’s also a trophy and some individual honors.
-
When is the tournament? - Group play starts tonight! Group stage games happen on “tournament nights” and are played on unique courts - they should be hard to miss. Every Friday from today to December is a tournament night. After next Tuesday, every Tuesday will also be a tournament night. Then from Dec. 4th through the 9th the bracket stage plays out.
That’s it, best of luck to all the contenders!

GO DUBS!
Hallelujah it's a 7 gamer and technically day 1 of the In-Season Tournament. They totally need to find a cooler name for it.
News today to look out for:
SGA OUT- This isn't the first game SGA has missed for some of these guys, so we have some solid stats to look to. Josh Giddey $7900 in 25 games in his career without SGA averages 16/8/7.5. Lou Dort $4800 averages 17/4/2 in 46 games without SGA, however much of that came from before Giddey, Chet and Jalen Williams arrived. I still think he has potential to have a good game here. Jalen Williams $6700 in his 11 games without SGA is at a 21/5/5 line. I'd imagine that Cason Wallace $4200 moves into the starting lineup for OKC, which makes him a solid place to look for value, as his minutes should break into the mid 20s. I expect Isiah Joe $3900 to get some extra run, and he can shoot the lights outta the ball from 3. Theyve given Aaron Wiggins around 10 mins a night so far too. Long story short, there's a lot of dudes that might see this usage bump tonight, or they all might see just a little boost. Not gonna lie to you when I say this matchup vs the Warriors scares me. Chet Holmgren $8000 is the scariest of the bunch. He could absolutely smash today, but I'm more of the thinking that he is going to get smashed. Draymond Green isn't the type to hold back on physicality. My brain tells me to use the guys from this game, my gut tells me this might be a welcome to the league blowout by the Warriors. I don't mind the cheap guys, but take care if the OKC studs gets super chalky tonight.
CAVS @ INDY: Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland went through shootaround this morning. Tyrese Haliburton is Questionable tonight again. Luckily this is the first game of the day, so all of this news will break between 2-330 today, and maybe earlier. With Allen (ankle) and Garland (hammy) likely to be on some type of small restriction given the leg injuries on return, Donovan Mitchell $10300 stays in play for tournaments at this price. Evan Mobley $8200 was absolutely dominant last time out vs the Pacers. I don't think that chasing any of the LeVert, Strus, Okoro crew makes any sense if JA and DG return (which it appears they will). The Haliburton news would open good ol TJ McConnell $5500 and Andrew Nembhard $5300. I like Nembhard a touch more, as I think last games numbers will flock the masses to TJ and given the blowout nature of that game, those minutes shouldnt be viewed as concrete. I also like looking to Bruce Brown $5300, and think Mathurin $5100 and Buddy $4900 are solid plays. The nasty nature of recency bias may keep people off of the Pacers today, even if Hali sits, and the news of Garland and JA, may keep people off the Cavs. This could be a sneaky good stack no matter how the news breaks.
Brooklyn: Dinwiddie and DSJ return tonight to face the Bulls, Nic Claxton remains OUT. Simmons $7000 will likely start at the 5 again, and Nikola Vucevic $8100 gets another matchup vs a size-defective frontcourt and the Nets love to miss. There should be plenty of rebounds and easy buckets to be had tonight for the big man, who's been on fire of late, putting up 50.9 and 49.5 in his last two outings. My favorite play on the BKN side is Mikal Bridges at $7700, he's been very consistent to start the season, averaging a quiet 21/6/4. He's going to have a breakout soon, and it's in the Nets best interest to start feeding him the ball over Cam Thomas who got a bit of a price drop $7200. Don't fall for it! He's trickin yall man. Any day now Vaughn's gonna cut his minutes. If it burns me again, it burns me. But the dude is fully capable of shooting his team out of the game.
Portland: Scoot Henderson will not be playing tonight. He has been under whelming to say the least so far this season, but the already tight rotation gets a little tighter. We saw Shaedon Sharpe $7100 crush this price just last time out, and Malcolm Brogdon $6500 has been as steady as gets to start the year, scoring between 25.9 and 32.5 in every game. With a few extra minutes and a little bump in usage, he's in a good spot. Jerami Grant at $6100 catches my eye. His scoring output (real points) has gone up in every game this season (stonks 📈) and he's not going to have a combined 1 reb + ast in 38 minutes again. That's an absurd stat. I will run back to Toumani Camara for some value at $3800 with 4 straight games of well over 20 minutes and thats likely to get a bump tonight. Ive abandoned all hope on figuring out which of the Grizzlies "others" will get the points. If you're playing guys on their team, it's one of their 3 "studs" in Bane $8100, JJJ $8500, or Smart $6800. Could be a get right spot for them and those prices are gettable. I've used worse stacks.
Dal v Den: Lot of studs in this game and it looks like everyone except Maxi Kleber appears to be playing. After watching Nikola Vucevic absolutely thrash this Mavs team inside, Jokic $11900 is in a prime spot to destroy tonight but he's been underwhelming vs the Mavs in his career, avg 22/12/7 in 13 contests. Luka $12500 has a 25/10/7 line in those 13 contests. If you're going to play each side of this game, I think your best move is to play a lot of the guys other than those two. Jamal Murray at $7400 and Kyrie $8700 catch my eye. One of Aaron Gordon $6000 or MPJ $5900 is getting there tonight, KCP is super cheap at $4600, and they'll be really reliant on his defense tonight. Grant Williams $5000 should get a lot of run tonight. He won't have 25 real points again, but can contribute in many different ways, and they'll need his size without Maxi to matchup. I'm predicting the Rookie Lively II ends up in quick foul trouble here.
Good luck tonight!

The top that come to mind are Ray Allen’s 3, Lebron’s block on Iggy, Derek Fisher buzzer, Kawai rim rattling buzzer, Iverson step over on Lue, Kobe’s 81 points, Curry half court winner vs OKC…but that was regular season.
Am I missing a major one?
I personally think it’s Lebron’s block slightly over Allen 3.

Kendra Andrews (ESPN):

Josh Giddey pulled the net before Green tapped the ball, so that became goaltending against the Thunder. The game-winning point for the Warriors go to Curry. https://twitter.com/kendra__andrews/status/1720640369954529689

Anthony Slater (Athletic):

Officially being credited as a Steph Curry game-winner. Sounds like they ruled that Josh Giddey grabbed the net before Draymond Green interference, meaning Curry basket counts. https://twitter.com/anthonyVslater/status/1720638887146488102
-
-
John Schuhmann (NBA.com):
-
Not sure the OKC announcers can complain about the refs' interpretation of that call when they don't know the difference between goaltending & basket interference. [Basket interference is] only if the ball is "sitting or rolling on the ring and using the basket ring as its lower base." https://twitter.com/johnschuhmann/status/1720635053389328703

-
Andrew Schlecht (Athletic):
-
Giddey was not told that touching the net was the reason the basket counted. Not saying it isn’t part of the explanation, but Giddey was not told that was why the game ended https://twitter.com/AndrewKSchlecht/status/1720643365899837794

Brandon Rahbar (Daily Thunder):
-
Mark Daigneault said that on the controversial game winning bucket, he was told no the refs that Draymond Green touched the rim but not enough to impact the play https://twitter.com/BrandonRahbar/status/1720642146796024132
-
Andrews' statement comes across as the most definitive, but Slater qualifies the statement by saying "sounds like". Schuhmann implies it's not basket interference, while Schlecht and Rahbar are sharing postgame snippets from OKC head coach and Giddey that the reasoning centered on Giddey's net grab was not made evident to them.
will update if more tweets come.
I mean if our record sucks again and we get top 5 pick, we might go draft route to try getting franchise PG.
But if Wemby took us to the play-in/playoffs and we're one great PG away from being a real threat, which current PG in the league that we could realistically acquire?
Considering assets / draft picks we have
