NBA
I was watching the Sixers last night, and was wondering how much of that insane contract was left after Tobias Harris put up 20 points against the Bucks.
Turns out he’s made the most money in the history of the league without an all-star appearance.
It does kind of make sense due to inflation and the explosion of salaries in the late 2010s and 2020s.
A productive scorer with good length and skill, Harris is largely inconsistent and did not live up to the contract he was given. Albeit, it was a must-give for the 76ers, where he would have likely walked for free, so Philly elected to overpay to keep him.
The Sixers signed Harris to a 5-year, $180M contract in 2019, fresh off the departure of current Miami star, Jimmy Butler. Harris’ contract expires this year.
Rounding out the rest of the Top 5 are: 2. Danilo Gallinari ($198M) 3. Nicolas Batum ($187M) 4. CJ McCollum ($181M) 5. Eric Gordon ($178M)

Not presenting a new idea but the NBA's new rule that potentially gives each coach 2 challenges is making the league embarrassing to watch. Last night's Sixers/Bucks game should have felt like a Dame to Milwaukee celebration but it was hard to keep the momentum in the 4th quarter with all the reviews. I'm sick of hearing the broadcasters debate the call in question, seeing players standing around and refs huddled up. Player stamina has no impact on the game anymore because everyone gets to rest for like 15 minutes during the 4th. Why the hell would they edit a rule that makes the 4th quarter longer??? They knew that coaches would just squat on their challenges until the end of the game.
In my experience, the NBA is slowly replacing baseball as the sport that elicits the most negative reaction out of non-fans.

I hate the NBA app! I keep hitting "watch live" and it just starts at the beginning of pregame everytime with no option to skip to live TV! Anyone else have this issue?

And now we're back to way too big of a slate. Really looking forward to when we consistently get back into 6-8 game slates for dfs, but as a basketball fan I'm excited. On big slates like this your best bet is to pick 1 or two of the high total games to stack up their studs and then find the value that fits. Leave $100 on the table and your chances of being different than optimizer cash lineups increases a lot, even if you use the chalky value guys. On slates this big, being different will happen fairly naturally if you're hand building, as I do.
Let's start with my favorite games and plays in those games.
Detroit @ Charlotte (-4.5 o/u 226)
If you're betting, I love Detroit ML here @ +150. My favorite play in this game is Cade Cunningham @ $8700. The dude took 27 shots last game and with the Pistons starting Ausar Thompson over Jaden Ivey, Cade will continue to get the vast majority of that units usage. If Jalen Duren $7900 was a little cheaper I'd be all over him, as I think he's the best of these bigs, but that's a pretty major price tag. Isiah Stewart played 34 minutes last game and is $6200. I don't mind that. On the Charlotte side Terry Rozier $7400 and PJ Washington $6200 have the best chance to hit their ceilings, followed by Mark Williams at $6900 which might be high enough to scare me away, but I'll be watching this big man matchup closely. Two great young bigs in Duren and Williams here. If you're feeling weird, Jaden Ivey $4400 might be a solid bounce back candidate. His minutes will likely depend on if he's hitting shots and I find it real hard to believe they're going to keep playing Killian Hayes 30 mins and allowing him 12 shots.
New York @ Atlanta (o/u 229.5)
Both teams are coming off disappointing first games and have a solid rivalry. Should be a fun, high paced matchup. I love the studs in this game. Julius Randle $8800 Jalen Brunson $8000 and Trae Young $9500 shot a combined 15/62 from the field in their respective first games. I'm betting on that not happening again here. I see plenty of avenues where all those dudes crush their price points. Dejounte Murray at $7400 is cheap-ish but his role in this offense is super inconsistent, and with guys like Jalen Johnson $5800 taking on larger roles in the offense, I don't see Murray being a dominant fantasy player this season. It's early though. I love Johnson again here. The dude is electric to watch play. Long, aggressive, and consistently finds himself in the action. The bigs get tough, the prices are low but the minutes are divided fairly evenly amongst the four of Clint Capela $6100 Onyeka Okongwu $5100 Mitchell Robinson $5600 Isiah Hartenstein $4300. I'd lean more toward the cheaper guys here, but am likely not using any of those, despite their solid prices. Rotations too iffy and foul trouble could be a thing with the pace of game and the way each team attacks the rim.
Golden State @ Sacramento (o/u 238!!)
The late night, national TV hammer. These teams have played each other, if I'm not mistaken 13 times since the start of last season (pre season this year included). The games are fast paced, high scoring, and physical. Should be an absolute delight of a basketball contest (GO KINGS). Deaaron Fox is 100% in play at $8400 here. He had a poor shooting game against Utah, but is contributing in other ways to the stat sheet. He isn't going to go 6/18 from the field again, but will likely have around 6 reb & ast again, along with a few stocks. He's a dark horse for an All-Defense team this year. Heard it here first. The Kings can score with Steph Curry, so the Warriors need someone else to step up. Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins both have very reachable ceilings at only $6200 as does Jonathan Kuminga at $5100 and Kevon Looney (Sabonis-killer) at $5400. On the Kings side, one of Kevin Huerter $4600 and Malik Monk $4900 will get their number, but I prefer Keegan Murray at $6400 since his minutes/price are much safer. I don't see Barnes going for 30+ again, but he'll get his minutes. If you're looking for some near minimum value Chris Duarte and Sasha Vezenkov are $3800 and their job is to come in and shoot during their 16-18 minute stints tonight. One could totally get hot in this environment, and Coach Brown loves Duartes defense, compared to Monk/Huerter. These prices make this game super stackable. Like really stackable. Do it.
Value Plays
There are some really solid places to get value today. The first of which is the shit show that is the Memphis Grizzlies. They just lost Luke Kennard to a concussion so the leagues tightest rotation just got even tighter. Fire up guys like David Roddy $4000, who played 27 minutes last game and Ziare Williams $3900, who played 29 minutes last game. I don't see them keeping this game close, but if they do it's because of Marcus Smart doing Marcus Smart things. Not a bad flyer at that price of $6300 but I'm not playing him over Klay or Herro ($6500). I'm avoiding guys like JJJ and Bane and all of Denver here. Could be a mistake, but there's just better plays in other games. Love Roddy and Ziare as value tho. Those minutes are great, despite their low usage roles.
Brooklyn will be without Nic Claxton tonight and potentially without Cam Johnson. I see this opening the door for more usage and minutes from DFS $4600 and Royce Oneal $4100. Dayron Sharpe will likely start at center but at $5000 I don't think I'll get there. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ben Simmons $6200 get a little more usage and maybe even see some minutes at the 5, but it's Ben Simmons. Im avoiding anyone over $5000 in this game and would be the under (231.5!!) on what seems to be too high of a total for the talent level and play style of these rosters.
Dart Board Game
Houston vs San Antonio. I don't know what to tell you here. I think that Alperen Sengun $7400 and Victor Wembanyama $7500 both have the talent to crush their prices. I feel the same about Jabari Smith $5400 and Point Sochan $6100. I also feel the same about Amen Thompson $4500 and Jalen Green $6400. The problem is that Houston has FVV and Dillon Brooks there too, and who knows what Pop is gonna do with his minutes. This game is either a gross display of basketball, or a young talent filled thriller. I have no idea. Grab a dart board and play some of these dudes if you want. It could end up the highest scoring game today, but is by far the biggest risk in terms of figuring out who makes their number. Only in large tournaments should you touch this, in my opinion.
B.O.L to all you degenerates.

Good lord I've missed this. The highlights from this first week of games have all been insane, talent seems to be deep and spread out, and there are a lot of interesting story lines to keep an eye on. I don't want to even say the "i" word, but I do hope that the players stay healthy this year and we get a full season of incredible games.
Amidst the high-flying dunks, clutch threes, and ankle-breaking crossovers, there's a group of players who often fly under the radar but are instrumental to their team's success. Let's shine a light on some of the league's unsung heroes and roles:
-
The Glue Guys: These players might not light up the stat sheet every night, but their presence, energy, and intangibles keep the team cohesive. Think of players like Andre Iguodala during his Warriors days or Udonis Haslem for the Heat.
-
Elite Screen Setters: A perfectly timed and positioned screen is often the difference between a clear shot and a contested one. Players like Steven Adams and Draymond Green have mastered this art.
-
Off-ball Movers: Constant motion creates chaos for defenses. Think Klay Thompson or JJ Redick, who run marathons every game through screens and sharp cuts, opening up space for themselves and others.
-
Defensive Stalwarts: They might not always have the flashy blocks, but their positioning, reads, and hustle often lead to disrupted plays. Marcus Smart and Matisse Thybulle come to mind.
-
The Bench Energizers: Not every player can be a star, but those who bring the energy off the bench, keeping the team's spirit high, are invaluable. Think of players like Patty Mills or Montrezl Harrell.
Let's give some love to these pivotal players and roles that might not always make the highlight reel but are foundational to the essence of basketball.
Who are some of your favorite unsung heroes in today's NBA? What other underappreciated roles deserve more attention?

If all NBA players were to compete in a Marathon who would win?
If all NBA players were to compete in a Marathon who would win?
Broke even tonight but i am in absolute pain. I had the fucking launch codes, every low owned play that i liked today absolutely destroyed the slate. NO ONE wants any part of that spurs/rockets game that i absolutely loved and no one wanted scottie barnes or ben simmons. Bane absolutely fucked me and i am livid. Hope you all had a better day then I did because breaking even hurts when i had the nuke.

We’ve already seen media members addressing the potential issues with them being responsible for selecting the teams due to how it can affect contracts for players. This led me to wondering is there a more precise metric we can use to determine the teams to take possible bias out of the equation. The 65+ game policy is a good start for making it clear how few games is too few but could we rely on advanced metrics to construct the teams for us.
I looked at PER just to see if it would change the teams in any significant way and there was large overlap. Looking at the last 3 years the only changes would be:
2023- Halliburton over Fox, Markannen over Brown, AD over Sabonis.
2022- Dejounte Murray over CP3, Butler over Siakam and Gobert over Towns.
2021- Trae over CP3, Zion over Randle and Capela/Valancuinis over Gobert.
None of these changed selections seem particularly egregious to me. It’s very possible that the Kings making the playoffs and looking good after a long time played some role in the 2 selections last year. There are players who generally rank very well in PER like AD and Zion and CP3 gets snubbed twice even when he lead the league in assists. I’m not trying to suggest that PER is the perfect metric but could a combination of advanced metrics work for an all-NBA calculation.
