Build near an electricity source. Use your cam to test which direction has the best sunset and sunrise views before you start putting down building parts. Use a platform or stack one floor piece to ensure that your floor doesn’t get a bunch of grass in it later.

Also if the planet has good local fauna I’ve noticed that they tend to spawn in clumps and the opposite is also true so there can be fauna dead zones. I choose my site with that in mind so there are always animals hanging around.
