He didn't think it through before hitting send did he? by RogerRoger420 in PrequelMemes

This is a good point that I think people are overlooking. She knows a Owen on Tatooine, so she’s going to be intrigued as to why a Senator is talking to Kenobi about it. Under any other context, they might not care as much.

At what age is it acceptable for a child to come out as gay? Accept that they’re straight? Accept that they’re cis? It’s arbitrary, it’s not something to be controlled; all we know is that classing any coming out decision before an arbitrary number as invalid costs us lives.

Richard McGonagle talks about machinations against Amy Hennig at Naughty Dog and resentments towards Neil Druckmann. by UnchartedLand in uncharted

[–]bearisart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It appears you’re upset about the fact that they’re hosting such panels, not featured as guests.

Now, I could understand how inviting a guest to the panel could be seen as not your cup of tea if they’re only talking about that aspect of the story - but if they’re hosting it, is the panel bad because they’re a lesbian and apart of that community, or because they know nothing about the games? Surely they’re mutually exclusive, because otherwise you’re making a big assumption that cannot be proven. Assuming it’s the latter of the two observations, then that’s an issue with the company who casted the host of the panel (to which I doubt Neil Druckmann has a say) who failed to give a proper debriefing, rather then who she happens to fancy.

This whole dogma that Neil Druckmann is ‘too woke’ or has some unrevealed political agenda to force gay and trans people down our throats is so blindly followed it’s honestly saddening; perhaps you want to play a game completely devoid of such people and to be an escape from ‘politics’, but how political is a character’s existence? To what point are you just forcing that label because you can only think of what that character may represent in a political way? And then that’s your issue, and not the game.

And when you have a story that features LGBT issues, surely you’d want the opinions of those apart of that community on panels to discuss it’s significance and how it translates into a video game format.

If Lev in The Last of Us 2 was quoting Judith Butler and going on and on about gender norms then sure - you may have an argument - but he’s a character who’s trans experience impacts the story drastically (it’s the only reason he runs away in the first place), so it’s not just danced about to appease to a certain audience; it is a factor in the story-telling. The story told couldn’t exist without the other, which is how you know it was built for the well-being of the narrative, and not for brownie points.

Seriously though, how people think his games are ‘political’ for the existence of LGBT people who, surprise surprise, exist in real life so would exist in a game attempting to mimic real life, truly baffles me. I am being unfair though by assuming this is what you mean by ‘political’; by all means I’m open to hearing whatever else you think he shoehorns in his games that are not story-driven and instead plainly political.

Which universities are best for filmmaking? by homeworkoflarry in UniUK

[–]bearisart 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The best courses and schools for filmmaking only offer master degrees, so you’d have to do an undergraduate degree in something else - I know a lot of people choose to do essay based subjects like English, History or Philosophy which can be super helpful for scriptwriting and understanding narrative beats and exploring stories as a concept.

The best advice I got about making films was that it’s all about life experience - and it’s also incredibly risky. It’s best to get a solid degree first in something unrelated to filmmaking, as it makes you multi-faceted academically and provides you with life experience (living by yourself, meeting new people and being in a new place, etc), and get involved in filmmaking societies at your chosen uni, as there’s bound to be one. Then if you still want a degree in filmmaking (which isn’t necessary to go far in the industry) it’s worth looking into film schools like National Film and Television school which is literally an elevator into the industry. And if it all backfires or you need a side job, you have a degree that employers might value a little more.

Another option is that you work, get a budget, meet other people who share a passion in filmmaking and then make films; get that experience people in the industry want. I just don’t think Uni is always the place to do that because you’re putting 9 grand of debt a year + potentially more behind you. Additionally, I haven’t heard the most positive feedback about undergraduate filmmaking courses.

However, if you’re still set studying it at university at an undergraduate level, look into Falmouth or even Farnham for practical courses. If you have the money, look at film schools but most of them are ridiculously expensive and again if you’re willing to spend that much, better to put it into a budget for a film/save it for a master degree at a more well known UK film school.

Not sure entirely, but I’d love to see more of Sam and Sully, especially since they tease us a little at the end of U4 with them making amends.

Realistically though, since Sam has already turned up in another game (Lost Legacy), I doubt he’ll have such a major role again unfortunately - definitely don’t think he’d have a stand alone game. I think if another Uncharted was to be made, it’d be about Nate’s daughter - with Uncle Sam and Sully tagging along potentially! Which I would still love to see.

London was also an amazing location in U3, would be awesome if they did another location in the UK.

If I was in charge of an actual story, I would totally lean into more of the religious element present in U4 and Lost Legacy - I mean they were literally raised in a bootleg nunnery, it’d be cool for them to show off that knowledge a little bit more, even if coming from a secular perspective. But that would only be the case with Sam, as ND have made it clear that Nathan’s days are over!
