In the United States, disaster, ambulance, and blood services are handled by an array of hospitals and organizations. In Israel, there’s one organization that does it all — Magen David Adom.
Magen David Adom is there for the people
of Israel when medical emergencies arise
– no matter where in Israel they live.
MDA has a staff of about 33,000 EMTs, paramedics, and first-aid providers (30,000 of them volunteers), many with extensive experience responding to bombings, rocket attacks, and other mass-casualty emergencies — and who also participate in more than 300 live-action drills every year.
While ambulances and Medicycles are Magen David Adom’s most visible asset, our EMTs and paramedics depend on a staggering array of training, equipment, and supplies to prepare for and address every type of medical emergency imaginable.

Dispatched to rescue patients in the most urgent and life-threatening situations, MICU ambulances are equipped with sophisticated technology designed to offer the highest level of treatment possible in an ambulance.
With about 550 of these state-of-the-art motorbikes in service, MDA first responders can cut through traffic, negotiate the narrow alleyways of Israel’s older cities, and be on the scene to start treatment until the ambulance arrives.
Whether it’s on land, air, or sea, MDA has a vehicle to arrive at every emergency in time to provide the critical treatment and hospital transport that can make the difference between life and death.
Much more than transportation. Each vehicle is packed with the equipment that in the hands of our world-class EMTs and paramedics ensures every effort is made to save the lives.
Responsible for collecting, testing, and processing more than 260,000 units of blood each year, MDA’s National Blood Services Division supplies 100% of the blood needed by the IDF and distributes blood units to all of Israel’s hospitals.
The Marcus National Blood Services Center, a state-of-the-art blood center in Ramla, features six floors, three of them shielded underground to protect Israel’s blood supply from missiles, chemical and biological attacks, and earthquakes. The Marcus Center was made possible with generous support from American donors like you.
