Our Work

When there’s a medical emergency, there’s one organization Israelis count on to save lives.

In the United States, disaster, ambulance, and blood services are handled by an array of hospitals and organizations. In Israel, there’s one organization that does it all — Magen David Adom.

Serving All Israelis, All Over Israel

Magen David Adom is there for the people
of Israel when medical emergencies arise
– no matter where in Israel they live.

Sustaining life.

Responsible for collecting, testing, and processing more than 260,000 units of blood each year, MDA’s National Blood Services Division supplies 100% of the blood needed by the IDF and distributes blood units to all of Israel’s hospitals.

Marcus Blood Center

The Marcus National Blood Services Center, a state-of-the-art blood center in Ramla, features six floors, three of them shielded underground to protect Israel’s blood supply from missiles, chemical and biological attacks, and earthquakes. The Marcus Center was made possible with generous support from American donors like you.

Blood-Processing Supplies

Every year, MDA’s blood-services teams will process more than 260,000 blood units. The cost to process just 10 units of blood is nearly $700, so your support is desperately needed to ensure hospitals have ample supply for unexpected medical crises that could arise at any time.

Cord-Blood Bank

Cord blood is the most important source of stem cells, which are cryogenically stored at the National Blood Services Center. Stem cells have the unique ability to develop into any type of cell, offering tremendous promise in the treatment of a myriad of diseases.

National Milk Bank

Breast milk provides critical nutrition and antibodies to premature infants, many of whom can’t tolerate any other food source because of their underdeveloped digestive and immune systems. For many reasons, mothers of preemies are often unable to provide their own milk. MDA identifies and interviews potential donor mothers across Israel and picks up, tests, pasteurizes, stores, and distributes the milk to hospitals’ neonatal units.
