Looks like the lower priced Model 3s are finally shipping

[–]toohigh4anal 1323 points1324 points  (147 children)

Still can't afford it

[–]havinit 308 points309 points  (69 children)

Wait to get one with 100k miles on it

[–]toohigh4anal 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting!

[–]PatternPerson 36 points37 points  (20 children)

On the tesla website, there was a '13 p85 with full upgrades, 50k miles for 55k

[–]TILtonarwhal 31 points32 points  (18 children)

Go back there and buy that right now young man

[–]PatternPerson 21 points22 points  (17 children)

Dude. I drive 150 miles a day for work. I was ready to hit that up instantly. But California is trying to tax the number of miles versus gas. That will be expensive.

[–]Lyounis 11 points12 points  (4 children)

If they tax miles, you would have to pay it either way. Teslas are great cars and you should really consider it since you drive that much. Im an owner, let me know if you have any questions.

[–]sumthinTerrible 120 points121 points  (66 children)

OP's dad must work for Tesla. They were giving out mini model 3's as some promotion for employees.

[–][deleted] 167 points168 points  (40 children)

They also did it for people who referred others using a unique code.

Source: am a Tesla owner.

[–]fuzzer37 210 points211 points  (2 children)

"Hey Dave, buy this $80k car using my referral code"

"Uhh... Ok. What do you get if I do?"

"A bitchin' mini Tesla"

[–]Sally_twodicks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I laughed so damn hard at this.

[–]Kevin_Uxbridge 63 points64 points  (27 children)

Apparently they give you a choice, the kiddie-car or a dedicated home tesla charger (which you need to have wired into your mains box). The little cars are pretty cool.

Source: also Tesla owner.

[–]audiocycle 12 points13 points  (9 children)

How do you charge at home if not with a dedicated tesla charger?

[–]Kevin_Uxbridge 17 points18 points  (8 children)

They come with a tesla charger that can be plugged into an outlet just like the one for your dryer. I had an electrician in to put an extra one in my garage. The charger that comes with the car isn't quite as fast as the dedicated Tesla charger, but those things are an extra 500 or so and will only charge your car a bit faster (or so I understand). I get about 25 miles of charge per hour with the plug in one, I hear the dedicated ones get like 30 or a bit more. That's not a lot, and if my car is finished charging overnight at 4 am rather than 3, who cares? Either way it's sitting there till 8.

[–]selftitleddebutalbum 4 points5 points  (5 children)

So when you travel long distances how long do you typically recharge before getting back on the road?

[–]Kevin_Uxbridge 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Depends on the charger. If I'm at home, and I'm down to like 20%, I'm looking at 8 hours. If I got to a supercharger now, those things are fast. Hour or a bit more and I'm ready to go. The navigation system will actually tell you when it has enough power to get to the next supercharger on your route, but I often let it charge a bit more just to be safe.

Oh, and I should mention that Tesla recommends that you only charge your car up to 90% or so on a daily basis, something about how the battery discharges. With the new batteries, you're still looking at around 270 miles of range, which is plenty. I adjust this up to 100% for trips, but for daily purposes this cuts down a bit on the charing time.

[–]DM_FromTheAshes 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I heard you could by them separate too.

Source: A Ford owner

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. It’s a $500 Powerwheel basically.

[–]sumthinTerrible 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Cool, yeah I just remembered it vaguely from the newsletter I'd stare at while taking a piss

[–]TheNewJasonBourne 10 points11 points  (14 children)

Have a source or any evidence of this? I spend an embarrassingly large amount of time in the Tesla sub and I’ve never seen anyone say this.

EDIT: Apparently, my original comments were not clear so let me re-phrase. I am well aware of of the referral program and all of the prizes referrers get for referring, and the benefits a referee gets when buying. But I have never seen anyone mention a mini Model3 specifically until this particular comment.

[–]sumthinTerrible 36 points37 points  (5 children)

Worked at the factory as a subcontractor, building the Model 3 production line. It was posted on the monthly employee newsletter, above each urinal in the men's bathroom. It was like a bonus to employees who referred someone to purchase a full size vehicle.

Edit: someone

[–]DeepDishPi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

can confirm: it was someone

[–]not_so_vicious 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Where did they post it on the women's? Come on, you know

[–]Economic__Anxiety 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The woman who works there overheard some of the men talking about it.

[–]Otisbolognis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it the radio flyer one? We got our kids these for their birthdays and they love them! They are also pretty damn FAST -they zoom around the backyard racing each other.

[–]gwoz8881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or he was just an owner who referred 3 people to buy a Tesla

[–]CBD_Sasquatch 16 points17 points  (7 children)

I take a tiny bit of comfort that by the time I can afford to buy an electric car, autonomous vehicles will make car ownership obsolete.

[–]RipDorHigHTryN06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny part is only cost him $10,000 for the toy version.

[–]SargeZT 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Unfortunately it's whale oil powered.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What is this!? A Tesla for ants!

[–]ChancerapsIsmoke 7259 points7260 points  (115 children)

White Obama

[–][deleted] 2089 points2090 points  (45 children)

“Ahh, let me be clear...renewable energy is no joke...it’s up to every American to do their part”

[–]Ibn_Khomeini 396 points397 points  (32 children)

God damn that was spot on

[–]0N3-X 147 points148 points  (30 children)

Now read it as Morgan Freeman instead of Obama

[–]Love_asweetbooty 105 points106 points  (23 children)

[–]TheSpeedyTurtle 55 points56 points  (16 children)

[–]btarocker 78 points79 points  (6 children)

I'm not into beastiality.

[–]June_Inertia 25 points26 points  (5 children)

Only Minnie does Mickey

[–]90Sr-90Y 33 points34 points  (4 children)

Anyway, Minnie is fucking Goofy.

[–]Wankylocks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Are we even sure that's Obama??
It's probably OP's dad in disguise!

[–]Yaranatzu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

hahaha wow that's perfect

[–]collegekid12341234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]toohigh4anal 20 points21 points  (2 children)

[–]Paddy_Tanninger 199 points200 points  (3 children)

Your dad's outfit is precisely the "I'm a lowkey multimillionaire" starterpack.

[–]expatriate77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He’s also matching brands; a fundamental staple for the low key millionaire.

[–]spilfy 1622 points1623 points  (41 children)

Your dad is everything I think a Tesla driver would look like! (not an insult)

Also I would definitely attempt to take that mini version everywhere!

[–]urfriendosvendo 257 points258 points  (10 children)

Just a bunch of Larry David's

[–][deleted] 96 points97 points  (12 children)

The only question is what dumb vanity plate did he get?

[–]wisertime07 63 points64 points  (3 children)

It's either LOL GAS, LOL OIL, NO GAS, HANDSFREE or similar - that's a what they all say.

I live in a town with a lot of teslas and OP's dad looks like a mashup of all of their owners.

[–]Some_Pleb 24 points25 points  (0 children)

[–]Hoticewater 48 points49 points  (5 children)

[–]Thricesifted 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Well, I mean... is that him then? Is the OP's dad Tom Lehman?

[–]Hoticewater 21 points22 points  (2 children)

No, OP's dad is the love child of Tom Lehman and Dustin Hoffman's Captain Hook

[–]Thricesifted 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Did you already know this was your hidden talent, or are you just finding out today?

[–]Hoticewater 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a burden I carry.

[–]ValentinoMeow 684 points685 points  (6 children)

Tesla owners who dress like their tesla?

    [–]DeepDishPi 75 points76 points  (5 children)

Wainscoting with wide baseboards, custom concrete floor, indoor-style windows with venetian blinds, and a brick driveway. This guy must take home at least two, three hundred a week!

    [–][deleted] 64 points65 points  (7 children)

I did it in my garage, shit is awesome.

    [–]wiscowonder 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Personally? Or did you hire someone?

    [–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Personally, took a weekend and another weekend for the other work to finish.

    [–]GreatAndPowerfulNixy 15 points16 points  (4 children)

    So.... Two weekends

    [–]PM_VAGINA_FOR_RATING 21 points22 points  (3 children)

I think you misread, it took a weekend AND another weekend.

    [–]straight-ridah 19 points20 points  (0 children)

    Rich people for sure.

    [–]mb72378 21 points22 points  (17 children)

    Its bead board not wainscotting

    [–]lookatthatsquirrel 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Wainscotting is just paneling of any kind on the wall. I could rip old pine/oak barn wood, nail it up, and call it wainscotting.

    [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (13 children)

Wainscot only means wood paneling. What is OTS?

    [–]misfitx 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That garage is nicer than my fucking apartment.

Are they like bobby cars or can they actually drive? Cause that would be awesome.

      [–]An_aussie_in_ct 49 points50 points  (4 children)

they drive - they have the "slow" setting at 3mph, and "fast" setting at about 6mph.

Battery last about an hour, and it is great fun for the kids to go zooming around in

      [–]AlpinaBot 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Damn I wish i had one of these. Would have been my dream toy as a small kid.

      [–]atombrainiac 37 points38 points  (1 child)

They have been around for over 25 years.

      [–]InadequateUsername 79 points80 points  (2 children)

      [–]Scrubtac 79 points80 points  (1 child)

My dad has a few referrals because the agent who sold him the car uses his referral code for other customers. He did the same thing when my dad bought his, and if you buy a Tesla on referral you get free supercharging for life.

      [–]rieboldt 44 points45 points  (11 children)

How many refs do you need to unlock this?

      [–]An_aussie_in_ct 39 points40 points  (8 children)

      1

      [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

      80 lbs if I recall.

They have one at the Tesla store in the mall here. My daughter loves to sit in it.

Apparently you can buy them in addition to getting it ad a referral award.

      [–]Xeno4494 23 points24 points  (0 children)
