[–]10per 212 points213 points  (3 children)

There are several choices. My favorite is the "Falcon Heavy".

[–]SynisterJeff 50 points51 points  (1 child)

If it doesn't sound like "Falcon.. PAWNCH!!!" I will be disappointed

I can vouch - it definitely did.. Good thing the 0-100 is so good so we could GTFO

[–]Culverts_Flood_Away 101 points102 points  (19 children)

We need a new term for crop dusting an entire intersection. Trucks can roll coal... maybe Teslas should adopt a similar term.

[–]WATOCATOWA 95 points96 points  (9 children)

How was he not putting on a "native" sticker?! lol

[–]terriblegrammar 51 points52 points  (3 children)

While swapping his texas plates for new CO plates.

[–]GhostWrex 22 points23 points  (2 children)

The Texas plates don't come off lol

[–]Titan_Hoon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Can confirm my neighbors f150 has been parked on the street for about 2 years and still has Texas plate. It doesn't move during the winter since I'm pretty sure it's 2wd.

Oh and his damn RV also permanently lives on the street...

[–]IgnitedSpade 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Fake, I didn't hear a single namaste

[–]sevargmas 42 points43 points  (2 children)

Yeah I was surprised in the beginning there was no native sticker or, if Boulder, čøęxīšt.

Edit: or a “I ride ❤️land” sticker

[–]Tv_land_man 7 points8 points  (7 children)

I seat here thinking about the 2 subarus I've owned in Boulder. I think Toyotas are stealing the limelight around here though. Everyone I know that had a Subaru has switched, myself included.

[–]Lorpedodontist 87 points88 points  (17 children)

My girlfriend drives a Subaru, and so do my neighbors, and when they had their boujee friends over for cocktails or whatever, there were seven Subarus parked in front of my house.

Edit: think young granola ski yuppies

[–]SpliffWestlake 32 points33 points  (1 child)

Do they microdose out back?

[–]Vegabern 21 points22 points  (4 children)

I don't think I've ever heard Subaru drivers referred to as boujee before.

[–]DeckardsDark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they'd drive a Volvo if they were boujee subaru people

[–]Usery10 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t get the thing where people define themselves by their cars.

[–]1wiseguy 5 points6 points  (4 children)

I have two Subarus now. It's the new Toyota.

I got an Outback a year ago, and I only put 4K miles on it in a year, because I work from home now. I think I will die of old age before I get a new car.

[–]dream_weasel 27 points28 points  (17 children)

I thought those were only for lesbians...

[–]MattieShoes 48 points49 points  (9 children)

Heh, not in Colorado. Cheap as a Honda Civic, AWD, over 8 inches of ground clearance? Your options are pretty limited.

[–]HumphreyImaginarium 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The PNW is the same way with Subarus, they're absolutely everywhere around Portland and Seattle.

[–]rckrusekontrol 9 points10 points  (3 children)

The PNW doesn’t need all that, and civics are cheaper. But Subarus are every other car anyway.

    [–]MattieShoes 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Haha, they have the same reputation here, particularly with Outbacks. It's this generation's station wagon.

    [–]signal15 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Unless you wanna drive a 4wd pickup, the Outback is probably one of the best cold weather/snow vehicles on the market for the price. The AWD system is great, but not quite as good as Audi's. They get decent mileage, they are super practical with all the design stuff (like the built in crossbars), they are super reliable, and the newer XT models have the turbocharged engine which basically the complaints from anyone who said they were underpowered.

We had one for 7 years. It was in the shop exactly zero times. Not a single problem with it. I just changed the oil regularly, put a couple sets of tires on it, and did the brake pads twice. The only reason we didn't get another one is that we wanted a 3rd row seat, so we got a Telluride.

Edit: Chose the Telluride because the Pathfinder drove like a minivan and the seat didn't go high enough for my wife. The Palisade is basically an ugly Telluride. The VW Atlas was a huge tank with a lawn mower engine in it, hated this thing. The Ascent was big and ugly. The Model Y had a really small 3rd row, and battery range drops too much in the cold. Everything else that was decent with a 3rd row cost way more money than the Telluride.

    [–]leshake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    Ultimate bad weather car.

    [–]Heathen_Mushroom 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Was that not kind of a '90s stereotype?

As far as I know the current stereotype is the Subie bro.

    [–]manygoats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only up to the '90s. Became a go-to for people who thought they might have to drive in bad weather (even though some people did).

      [–]a4techkeyboard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So... Tesla ads are lying by omission! I thought the point of Teslas was to reduce omissions!

      [–]DBMS_LAH 28 points29 points  (17 children)

Don't know why you're downvoted. Tesla has zero dollar advertising budget. This is known.

      [–]Rhinoturds 35 points36 points  (5 children)

The advertising is all of Elon's tweets. So the budget exists, it's just baked into his salary and benefits.

      [–]Bifferer 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They probably think I am some kind of a rabid tesla owner. I would be gladly be one if someone gave me the car!

      [–][deleted] 470 points471 points  (81 children)

ive had more people confused on how to get out than get in...but plenty confused on how to get in too. spot on!

      [–]OnePeakCreative[S] 236 points237 points  (72 children)

Definitely pulled the emergency latch the first time getting out..... Really glad I didn't smash a window 😬

      [–]FreefallJagoff 73 points74 points  (7 children)

I once asked an owner "your cars on fire and there's no power. How do you get out". Their answer was the little hammer they keep in the center console.

They had no idea the manual latch was even there.

      [–]imamydesk 21 points22 points  (5 children)

Most consumers don't bother learning about the product they're using and scoff at any suggestions of reading the manual.

      [–]Dushenka 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Doesn't help that cars have the most massive manuals I've ever seen and Teslas probably have even thicker ones.

      [–]silvermoon26 80 points81 points  (54 children)

That’s an emergency latch? You can smash the windows with it? I rented a Tesla a couple weeks ago (will never do that again) and I exclusively used that handle because, well, it’s a door handle!

      [–]Rhinoturds 105 points106 points  (31 children)

Yeah, they want you to find and push a little button to release the door. This button slightly lowers the windows to releases the door seal. The 'emergency latch' does not adjust the window down so if you slam the door it could crack the window.

Idk why they don't just have the latch also adjust the window. Tiny cost saving measure maybe?

      [–]UnconnectdeaD 60 points61 points  (7 children)

I'm pretty sure the emergency release is purely mechanical. Why they don't have it drop the window when your battery is working though doesn't make sense. But having it work without electricity to escape a fire, I wouldn't care about a cracked window.

      [–]LQTPharmD 26 points27 points  (1 child)

It still drops the window if there's power, it's only when there isn't power that the window won't dip down. And it won't break the window, it might pop out the weather stripping though.

      [–]UnconnectdeaD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly have never pulled my emergency handle. Lol That makes more sense.

My Mustang has the same seal system and when I went to start it a few weeks back the battery was dead, I was lucky I remembered to keep pressure on the top when I unlocked it, cause that totally would have shattered. It was like 1/2 inch of the glass up in the door frame.

      [–]thugarth 42 points43 points  (9 children)

Or maybe make a window that doesn't need to retract in order for the door to open

      [–]cobo10201 21 points22 points  (4 children)

This is extremely common on modern vehicles. It’s so the window slides under the seal of door frame rather than over it. It makes a better seal from weather. The alternative is to have the window frame built into the door, but this isn’t done on all cars for various reasons.

      [–]Hole-In-Six 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Never in my life have I had complaints about a car window being drafty....

      [–][deleted]  (2 children)

      [deleted]

        [–]HardcoreSects 7 points8 points  (1 child)

To add, the frameless design reduces cost and weight. So it isn't purely cosmetic.

        [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk why they don't just have the latch also adjust the window.

It does, but it's not fast enough to never cause problems. The handle releases the door immediately, and if you push hard enough, the top of the window might still be partly in the trim as it opens.

The regular button has a delay of ~0.1-0.2 seconds to move the glass before it unlatches, so it really doesn't need much time. I think it's just ass covering in case someone really slams into the door and it ends up breaking something.

        [–]FrostyD7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would wager a guess that its because they don't want you to use it on a regular basis. If they made it behave exactly like the button, people would just use it instead of the button. The expectation is that you use it in an emergency where power is disabled and the button does not work, which is a scenario where the latch wouldn't be able to lower the window anyway.

        [–]dday0123 10 points11 points  (7 children)

Yes -- that's the emergency handle.

Tesla chose to use a framless window design (I don't know why) in which the window is of course part of the door, but the frame that the window closes into is not part of the door. The window closes into the car frame above the door.

As a result, when you open the door from the outside handle (or by pressing the open door button from the inside), the window actually lowers a little bit before the door pops open so as not to potentially damage the window that is nestled into the frame as the door opens.

When you use the emergency release handle that just manually opens the door, the window wouldn't necessarily lower first, so you could (probably wouldn't, but could) damage the window glass.

        [–]general_know 5 points6 points  (4 children)

A lot of cars have frameless windows though, and most of yhose dont have to lower the glass or anything.

Flameless windows were really common on 90-00s Subaru's, as well as most convertibles.

          [–]FC37 234 points235 points  (30 children)

Kind of. It was deemed a safety hazard by the NHTSA (probably rightfully so), so it was recalled.

However, I think you can still use it when the car is parked.

          [–]OnePeakCreative[S] 102 points103 points  (10 children)

How disappointing! I mean.... DEFINITELY makes sense, I guess the surprise is more that it got passed to begin with

          [–]Revenge_of_the_Khaki 53 points54 points  (6 children)

The US is what’s called a “self-certify” region for automotive regulations. This basically means Tesla decided that it was safe and NHTSA disagreed and forced them to get rid of it.

          [–]DaoFerret 25 points26 points  (3 children)

“Self-certify” is standard in lots of things.

Bad actors usually abuse the system and get that right taken away (when/if they ever get caught).

          [–]fizzlefist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Say hello to the DoT motorcycle helmet safety standards! TLDR: the specification is archaic and unsafe, nobody with cares to improve upon it, and many are self-certified. Only buy a helmet with an ECE or Snell safety certification.

          https://youtu.be/0BUyp3HX8cY

          [–]EcstaticRhubarb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FSD is a way bigger safety hazard that a horn sound designed to amuse 10 year olds.

Boeing were allowed to self-certify the 737 MAX, which is a great example of why this practice shouldn't be allowed.

          [–]Sangmund_Froid 26 points27 points  (8 children)

Cue people stopped at a red that just turned green, rapidly shifting into park so they can fart horn the slow driver in front.

          [–]evilmonkey2 9 points10 points  (3 children)

My wife literally just told me this morning she wants the "move bitch, get out the way" song as the horn. She was disappointed when I told her she'd have to be in park for it work.

I've watched plenty of kids and adults fail to open a laptop cart with a very clear latch that no one seems to be able to figure out. The looks they have once they get in is priceless.

          [–]FrostyD7 10 points11 points  (6 children)

Getting in is the easy part. Getting out is the real burden because if you don't proactively teach them what to do, they'll instinctively reach for the emergency release and fuck up your trim.

          [–]secret_fashmonger 4 points5 points  (4 children)

My best friend said she went on a date with someone recently who had a Tesla and felt really stupid not being able to use the handle.

Probably made him feel smug but as Petty as it sounds is one of the reasons she didn't go on a second date with him.

          [–]secret_fashmonger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My SIL has one and apparently I was using the emergency unlock to open the door from the inside. In my defense it’s the most obvious and handy door opener. It’s just right there, where the proper door opener is a tiny button on the armrest. Screw me. Lol

          [–]imamydesk 2 points3 points  (1 child)

          [–]Lurk1993 23 points24 points  (5 children)

Man just realized how much a d-bag I’ve been since owning a Tesla. This is literally me lol. I live in a rual area and am constantly getting shit on by my more conservative peeps. So i guess i have just developed a kind of smug attitude to combat the Tesla hate.

          [–]AztecWheels 4 points5 points  (3 children)

My brother owned a Volt and he asked me recently if I ever had anyone give me a hard time or more specifically, "roll coal" by driving in front of me, intentionally blowing smoke. I said no, never (5 years of ownership of the Model 3). He said he had. "Buddy, it takes gas too!" was what he said.

I don't get why anyone should care what I drive. Get in your Yukon and live your life. I don't GAF. I've owned over 35 cars and not one was a measure of my self worth or made a political statement.

          [–]B0h1c4 41 points42 points  (2 children)

          If Tesla had ads...

          [–]TfaRads1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahah right? The insinuation is that Tesla ads lie. If they were honest means they're being dishonest. Tesla doesn't advertise.

          [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my thought too lol

          [–]Consistent_Crab_642 43 points44 points  (4 children)

I would save up for a tesla if I saw this ad in public

          [–]OnePeakCreative[S] 53 points54 points  (3 children)

Hear that Tesla?? When you're ready to hire us, you know where we'll be

          [–]etaoin314 18 points19 points  (2 children)

          you know where we'll be

because they track your every move and do god knows what with that data?

          [–]CrazyPlato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Watching Elon Musk now, I’m convinced that he never realized he could sell user data for profit before. So I feel a bit safer, ironically.

          [–]PhilGibbs7777 111 points112 points  (21 children)

Of course there are no Tesla ads so no dishonest ones.

This would actually help sell Teslas. People will check if it really takes four hours to charge at a supercharger and discover that it doesn't. The rest is just funny and makes you want to buy one if you are a misogynistic egomaniacal c**t with a 10 year old's sense of humour, which most of us are.

          [–]thekiyote 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Yeah, for cross country trips, depending on how full you want your battery (it’s typically more efficient to not if there’s another supercharger in range) it’s about 20 minutes for 80% and 60-90 for 100.

Traveling with a toddler, and with most superchargers being in the parking lot of gas stations, grocery stores or coffee shops, it actually doesn’t feel that bad.

If you charge at home, I’d stay it’s typical for about 30 minutes to charge up from my wife’s daily 25-30 mile commute with the home fast charger.

          Typical plug takes forever.

(Not saying this video isn’t funny, but it’s the largest misconception we get from people who ask about it).

          [–]TeamRedundancyTeam 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I usually didn't stop for more than 15 minutes during my last long trip. I stopped every 2 hours or so.

          [–]thekiyote 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we probably overcharged it a bit. When you're traveling with a young kid, you spend more time trying to wrangle them than you wait for the charging to finish.

          [–]OnePeakCreative[S] 58 points59 points  (4 children)

Can't tell if you love or despise the video.... But either way, 10/10 comment 😆

          [–]PhilGibbs7777 21 points22 points  (3 children)

          I love it

          [–]OnePeakCreative[S] 14 points15 points  (2 children)

          Love you

          [–]ianperera 12 points13 points  (1 child)

People verifying what they hear on the internet? Which internet are you on?

          [–][deleted] 51 points52 points  (39 children)

i took my family to portland with me last year on a business trip from missoula to portland, and the drive cost somewhere around $60. longest charge time was something like 25 minutes. nothing abnormal about distances or wait times and everything was convenient and normal. my only complaint with the car is that over christmas we had a controller go out that made the car unsuable. there were no warnings or flags that there was a potential issue and it was dead in the water until they replaced the controller. it was all under warranty and they came and got the car and fixed it for free but it was still kind of crappy that it just happened like that out of the blue.

          [–]OnePeakCreative[S] 44 points45 points  (31 children)

I love this comment - the car was amazing!! Except.... For the fact that it randomly and unexpectedly became a $60,000 brick on Christmas 😅 Glad it got covered for free though!!

          [–]mkul316 28 points29 points  (21 children)

Any car has that potential. My all of the cars I've owned have had at least two times I couldn't drive it with no warning.

          [–]SuicidalParade 16 points17 points  (14 children)

          Brand new ones breaking down?

          [–]SeymoreBhutts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have a leased 2021 Silverado that had lifters get stuck and bent the rods at 4,000 miles, before its first ever oil change. Having to tear apart a brand new engine is not common, but it happens. Also had a Jeep years ago with the 4 liter straight 6, one of the most, if not the most reliable engines Chrysler ever made. Had a piston grenade in the middle of a cross country move with that one which scrapped the entire engine. Point is, shit happens even to brand new vehicles.

          [–]mkul316 15 points16 points  (8 children)

Yup. Roommate's new car just had a dud battery this week.

          [–]lesterburnhamm66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

          Subaru has entered the chat

          [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thats certainly the main thing to consider. people need to remember these are rolling computers. and like any computer they're susceptible to random unexplainable shit. on the flipside, i looked up what burned out and i definately could have fixed it myself. now if elon opened the doors to parts and being available to the autoparts store like they are with my truck....fuck man i'd have absolutely no issue swapping out a controller. the car is super easy to take apart and get to things like this. i would have repaired it myself except i couldn't get parts for it by myself.

          [–]AdvancedSandwiches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lemon laws existed for exactly this reason well before the first Tesla was built.

          [–]arealdoctor25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coworker just had to call out as his 3mo toyota just got bricked

          [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Laughing because my Subaru drained the (one year old) battery to zero because didn’t drive it for the last few weeks and is sitting there bricked (it also needs an oil change). While my wife and sons teslas are doing just fine.

          [–]arealdoctor25 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Yeah man, no other cars ever break down

          [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea Tesla has an exclusive Supercharger network. Being stranded for a 4 hour charge is probably rare for Tesla owners and in 5-7 years probably won’t even be a thing any more for all EVs.

          [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate this......but only because I know some of it is pretty accurate.

          [–]PlainSpader 21 points22 points  (8 children)

I actually want a Tesla now.

          So it worked.

          [–]secret_fashmonger 8 points9 points  (2 children)

My SIL has one. He says it’s just a big toy and for fun is all. It can be a fun car. My younger kids enjoyed the “car-eyoke” feature during a trip we took. I like the roof because it lets a lot of light in.

I’ve seen a lot of people saying they are shoddily put together though. Would suck to spend that kind of money on a poorly constructed product. Hopefully they step it up.

          [–]dream_weasel 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Come on over. They are fun to drive.

          [–]Zeal391 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mean I drive a Tesla and I can charge at the super chargers from 20-80 in like 10min.

Also sitting at home I charge as well im always at 100%

In the year ive had this car I have never had an issue with range

          [–]Background-Action-19 90 points91 points  (122 children)

Imagine developing a product for a specific demographic, then buying a social media platform to then alienate that specific demographic.

          [–]mkul316 47 points48 points  (38 children)

Electric cars should be for all demographics. Everyone needs cars and electric are better for the environment. The only reason I could see not wanting one is if you are a frequent long distance driver, and in that case go hybrid.

          [–]Chestnuthare 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They should be! Unfortunately environmentalism is seen as some sort of commie plot to kneecap American gas production, and so the majority of electric car owners (that I know of) are left leaning

          [–]PrimeIntellect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's mostly reddit at this point.

          [–]MildlySuspicious 25 points26 points  (39 children)

Imagine not realizing Tesla was the number 2 and 3 selling car in California over the past year. Not EV. Car. Doesn’t look like it’s had much impact.

          [–]scott__p 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Besides the charging BS this is pretty funny.

          [–]Wild-Simple1908 22 points23 points  (19 children)

I made the mistake of renting a Tesla model Y for 1 day. Before the end of the rental my wife and I were trying to do the math on how to buy one. My next car will be a Tesla when I need to commute again.

          [–]dream_weasel 12 points13 points  (1 child)

          That's how it happens.

Wife and I stopped by a mall showroom on a whim and did a test drive. We left with an order.

          [–]Wild-Simple1908 16 points17 points  (14 children)

Crazy to think that the most valuable car company in the WORLD has never done a tv ad. Really insane to think about. I guess the product might be pretty good. Spoiler alert: it is.

          [–]Goldenslicer 16 points17 points  (27 children)

If Tesla ads were honest, they wouldn't exist because no Tesla ads were ever made.

Despite this, Tesla suffers from insane demand.

            I hate Tesla door handles.

Also, I’m immediately reminded of when Magneto bought a Tesla.

            [–]MaxLaserX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

            Sold my Tesla.

            [–]Mrlightskin74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The car horn sounds more like a queef instead of a fart since it's a Tesla

            [–]UncleGeorge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a very punchable face

            [–]tacomacs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

            Time to mansplain???

            [–]thebarkbarkwoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm saving the planet driving a tesla. Meanwhile it's owner is building rockets to use more video than al the teslas save combined but Um....yeah

            [–]-Xserco- 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I know I'm better than everyone. Because my car used child slaves to harvest the lithium for my car, it's the future.

            [–]morenito222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m struggling to determine who’s more douchey-Tesla drivers or guys in lifted trucks.

            [–]Clown_Apocalypse 6 points7 points  (2 children)

“Hold on babe, I can’t start the car yet, the mobile app has to update first”

            [–]OnePeakCreative[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

God forbid the phone dies 😬

            [–]yuplogic 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Tesla doesn't advertise, they don't need to.

            [–]Daiki_438 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Electric cars don’t save the planet. Trains, subways, trams and buses do. You’d have to dig out half of South America to get all the metal for billions of cars.

            [–]goldblumspowerbook 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Dude, crosspost this to r/electricvehicles and watch the world burn.

            [–]OnePeakCreative[S] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Will you do it for me...? I'm scared 😳

            [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Teslas are great. Only 3 problems. 1. There super expensive, 2. The USA doesn’t have the grid power for 50% of US residents to use electric cars. And 3. Cobalt mining is horrible and it’s an important resource to make the batteries, look it up if you want to be horrified about what we are supporting.
