Whats the biggest conspiracy theory you have about the show?
True or not, lets hear it! I have a few to get the ball rolling... Favorite Theory, Proven or Not Penny was also abusing pain medication, possibly intravenously. In her episode and follow up she seemed high a lot, especially when she was pouring over all those coupons.
Bettie Jo was an undiagnosed schizophrenic. I worked with adults experiencing onset schizophrenia due to trauma, and she just gave me that vibe. You could see the decline post 600lb episode and in the WATN episodes. She is either disassociating or trying to focus through the inner negative stimulations.
Maintenance Phase is a podcast by Aubrey Gordon and Michael Hobbes that debunks the junk science behind health fads, wellness scams, and nonsensical nutrition advice.
It’s a TLC show so you know it’s exploitative!!!
I used to watch this show but now when I look back at it, I’m pretty horrified by what was included in My 600 lb Life. I’m not horrified of the patients in the show but the narrative that is spun by TLC and the famous Dr. Now.
Dr. Now runs the clinic that the patients visit, oversees their weight loss, and performs weight loss surgery on said patients. The show and Dr Now’s narrative (or how I understood it) give the classic “these people are just lazy and that’s why they’re like this” narrative that is prescribed to fat people very often. The show does explore the trauma that the patients have experienced and even sets them up with a counselor, but that portion of the show really takes a back seat to all of the fatphobia.
This show does what Biggest Loser does; shame and stigmatize fat people. I think that My 600 lb Life is more sinister as it pretends to operate on medical expertise and puts fat people with disabilities on display to be ridiculed

At this point I’ve watched so many episodes of my 600 lb life that I can guess a patients weight within 5 lbs at the first weigh in. Are you guys able to accurately guess the weights as well? Was there anyone’s first weight that completely threw you for a loop? Maybe it was way smaller or larger than you would have thought?

Has anyone experienced moments in their life when they felt like a participant from the show? Or had a moment that reminded you of the show? Last weekend, my cousin got married and a golf cart transported people to the wedding site at the venue. My family and I were in charge of setting up and taking down, and the golf cart transported us back to our car. I fell off (stepped off too soon) and it reminded me of Steven Assanti falling off the golf cart. It probably one of the most memorable moments of the entire wedding weekend
Intermittent Fasting (IF) is way of eating that restricts *when* you eat, usually on a daily or weekly schedule. People engage in IF to reap the many benefits to health, fitness, and mental clarity. This is a place to share success, support each other, ask questions, and learn. IF is an 18+ community because the practice is not medically recommended to/for children.

I think we should have a My 600 lb Life cookbook that features different recipes each participant has. The cookbook could also feature different foods from the restaurants that they order from, as some I've never seen before. As strange as it sounds, the street corn from Samantha's episode sounded great. What recipes do y'all think the My 600 lb life cookbook would have? I've never had tater tot casserole, which is funny because I am from a predominately LDS/Mormon area and all my friends said it's popular around here (I'm not LDS so I wouldn't know).

What foods could you easily eat lots of from this show? I'll admit I could easily eat Chinese food and Domino's pizza. My university had this amazing Chinese fast food restaurant in our student union building and they closed for good. At least I eat healthier now, LOL! I could easily eat a whole Dominos pizza if I didn't have the self-control.

I hope I'm not just doing weird things, but I saw an ad for the Olympics right after someone mentioned James K lifting 10 lbs and calling that "raw power." There would possibly be a challenge where the enablers ran on a track while the competitors yelled at them, for instance.

I would watch the shit out of that show.

Hey there people,
I was having some thoughts, and I was wondering what other viewers of the show felt about some things. When I watch My 600 lb. Life, I feel a sense of guilt in the way I suspect TLC exploits the subjects and manipulates circumstances in the episodes. On the other hand, I feel fascinated and inspired by the participants that are really able to turn things around and, in essence, change the course of their lives. It makes me realize how much being an adult is about taking responsibility for your health and happiness. What are your thoughts? I hope everyone is well.

I am not sure if this has been already done, but I had been wondering, whom has been the heaviest patient, the lightest patient, the season with overall heaviest cast, etc., on My 600 Lb Life show, for awhile now.
So, I decided to put the attached chart together. Nothing fancy, but I was able to answer my questions, from Season 1-6. I will update it, once Season 7 is completed. I have a feeling that this season might be on the top, in regards average patient weight.
I forgot how heavy Sean was (RIP), poor kid, his mother did him wrong.

I'm most interested in the thoughts of those near that weight range but would love anybodies opinion. I haven't seen more than a few clips in many years so my opinion is not very in depth. I will say as someone who is around 375 it is sobering sometimes, but the thought I have most often is that I don't like the diet advice the doctor gives (such as high protein low carbs) and how uncompassionately he phrases things. I also have some qualms about the whole existence of the show but haven't seen enough of it to fully speak about it.

When Mike's dad brought two containers of food from the hotel buffet to the room. He set down the food and I thought they were both going to eat. Then he said "Now I'm going to get mine" and left to get food. I don't know why I just started laughing.

I think obviously the trophy for most dysfunctional dyad on the show would be Sean and his mother Renee as he literally ended up dead because of her. But I just watched Margaret and Millie and that was one of the most disturbing episodes I've seen when it comes to the sheer dysfunction between a child and parent. Millie felt so guilty about leaving Margaret when she was a kid that she literally turned Margaret into a 35 year old totally dependent little baby so she could reparent her. To resolve her own guilt. She wanted Margaret to be 750 pounds and helpless just so she could have a parenting do-over.
It's going to take me a minute to get over that episode. Millie destroyed her own child for her own selfish purposes and it was disgusting to watch.
