I couldn't find a great source explaining Filecoin's inflation rate. I currently see a 65% inflation rate and I think it was above 100% earlier this year. That seems high to me for a token that has been around since 2017.
Is this purely due to "block rewards": https://docs.filecoin.io/storage-provider/filecoin-economics/block-rewards/ ?- My understanding is these rewards scale as the storage network expands. Is it just that the storage network is way bigger now so higher inflation than previously back in early days?
A 65% or higher inflation rate seems really crippling to tokenomics and any investor interest. When I first learned of Filecoin, I thought storage providers were supposed to be incentivized by "storage deals" and that the people utilizing the network for storage should reward the providers. If the storage network is instead primarily incentivized by inflationary "block rewards" then wouldn't this cause an endless drain on liquidity / token price?
Also wondering if there are any plans to curb this inflation? The price has dropped from $200 to $3 and inflation is still high. I love the idea of decentralized storage but current tokenomics don't seem investable.
