Hey folks! I'm the guy who wrote that article. Sorry if I'm doing this wrong, I'm a Reddit noob. The original version was supposed to be significantly longer but I had to trim it down because of content length guidelines (don't even ask). Anyway, there's a lot more good stuff to look forward and I wanted to share some of the highlights with you here.

  • Reworked crafting system, complete with new recipes.

  • Small talk and banter between NPCs are still a thing.

  • NPCs have more in-depth daily routines, behaviors, and reactions than in the original. This also applies to creatures.

  • Voice actors from the original will not be returning. Xardas (G3 version I would imagine) might be one of the exceptions, but it sounded like a big maybe.

  • You no longer have to clumsily karate kick Meatbugs because now thereโ€™s a special animation where you just stomp them.

  • No shields.

  • Opening the inventory doesnโ€™t pause the game, just like in the original.

  • Swimming and diving will apparently be more interesting, with possibly things to explore underwater.

  • Becoming a Guru might be possible in the Gothic Remake, but itโ€™s another big maybe.

  • The Temple of the Sleeper will feature reworked puzzles and will generally be more rewarding to explore.

  • The developers are very interested in providing mod support, but some things may not be possible right off the bat due to engine limitations. Steam Workshop support is very likely, but it might not be available at launch.

  • Players can expect the lighting to get better as development progresses.
