We skipped Nihilism

TL;DR. The Base mainnet network briefly stalled on September 5, 2023 (incident). We’re sharing this postmortem as part of our commitment to building Base in a decentralized, open source manner and with an eye towards continually improving the reliability and resiliency of the Base network.

TL;DR: The Base Ecosystem Fund, led by Coinbase Ventures, aims to invest in the next generation of onchain projects building on Base. We received over 800 applications for our Base Ecosystem Fund, and we’re excited to announce our first six investments today: Avantis, BSX, Onboard, OpenCover, Paragraph, and Truflation.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for Onchain Summer, our multi-week celebration of the launch of Base. For 23 days, we were joined by some of the most innovative builders, brands, artists, and creators as we celebrated the digital future we’re all building together.

TL;DR: Base is an open, permissionless Ethereum L2 incubated at Coinbase with a commitment to decentralization. Base was built on the open source OP Stack in collaboration with the Optimism Collective, and together, we are working toward improved decentralization using the Law of Chains as our guide. This commitment includes routing a portion of Base sequencer revenue to the Optimism Collective and actively participating in governance.

TL;DR: After completing our launch criteria, Base mainnet is now open for builders ahead of general availability in early August. As a reminder, Base has no plans to issue a network token. In the weeks ahead, we’re inviting early builders to deploy on Base mainnet, commemorated with a Genesis Builder NFT. And we’re asking everyone to hold on publicly exposing their user facing dapps until early August, when we’ll open Base to the world, together.

Base’s goal is to bring the next million developers and billion users onchain. Security is an essential part of this vision. We want to share how we’ve approached security on Base to date, how we’re preparing for a secure mainnet launch with internal and external security audits, and how we draw on Coinbase’s best practices in onchain security.
