Stonemaier released their annual stakeholder report for 2020. It’s an interesting read for anyone interested in the business side of the hobby. However, I think what most people care about is seeing the number of games sold, so I’m only going to copy that out.
Edit: the first number is lifetime sales as of 2020. The second number is lifetime sales as of 2019
Wingspan: 746,991 units (2019: 299,841)
Scythe: 382,102 units (308,118)
Viticulture: 134,826 units (102,784)
Charterstone: 87,500 units (77,500)
Tapestry: 72,650 units (52,770)
Pendulum: 35,600 (0)
There are two things that immediately catch my attention. First, wingspan has sold a ton of units, especially with stocking issues. Second, I’m really surprised at how much less viticulture has sold compared to wingspan. Both games are gateway+, have nice art, and have somewhat interesting themes. I wonder how much of this is simply due to the ever increasing amount of new people to board gaming.
