Today we found out that some money was stolen from our hotel room in Uganda. Although it’s not a lot (70.000 UGX / 19 USD), it still feels weird.

My wife says we just need to accept it, as it’s not a lot of money and as local people here don’t have much, she hopes it goes to someone who desperately needs it and uses it to get some food.

Although she has a point, it’s not right. Feels also a bit weird to report it, as most other cases I’ve read online have done the same and they won’t take you serious.

Anyone else with the same experience? What did you do?

Good to mention that the money was inside a compartment of a travel wallet. The wallet itself was inside a backpack which was stored in a closet. The hotel does not provide a safe, so that was not an option.

Also, it really is NOT about the money. It’s about the fact that people are going trough your stuff.

I also made up my mind and I will not file a complaint. I’ll accept the lesson and move on. But it’s a good thing to know for people who are traveling to Uganda anytime soon.
