I'm the guy that kickstarted Nexus Aurora, did all the cheerleading and built the community that worked hard and won the Mars Society contest in 2020. Along the way I saw major organisational problems stemming from the lack of web infrastructure optimised for online space engineering projects. I took upon myself the mission to come up with a far better solution that merges discord, Reddit and Google Drive in one seamless app.

I grew up watching these american typical high school movies and cartoons, and I've always asked to myself, why?

I admire professional cheerleaders, what they do is amazing, but my unpopular opinion is that it shouldn't be practiced on schools. First, it's dangerous, what if some girl falls and breaks her leg or her neck, but she survives and she becomes paralyzed? The school shouldn't be putting young girls at risk like that.

Also, how can you not find creepy the concept of a sport based around hypersexualized girls wearing revealing clothes to please and cheer boys? I've read horror stories from american ex-cheerleaders who had to twerk and do provocative dances if they wanted to keep participating.

And I can tell you that it's different to sexy dance with your girl friends as a joke in a familiar place that makes you feel safe, than to do it in front of a public to please the male audience. That's creepy as hell.

Where I'm from boys just practice football and the girls who like it join their teams, and the ones who don't are encouraged to play volleyball or to run around the field at least, and we have some local volleyball and football tournaments.

And if you want to do extra activities you just take classes after school, I have a friend who learned pole dancing this way, and yes she was underage when she started, but she practiced it as a sport in a private place with other girls her age that was designed to make her feel safe and they never had the intention to make her perfom in public.

Anyway, I don't like american cheerleading, I support adult women who practice it but man, why little girls? Why teenagers? It sounds like a nightmare to me.

Edit: the argument about a girl falling and breaking her neck is mostly because of pyramids or towers, or maybe I'm just too much of a coward but I can't stop thinking that someone down there could slip, but maybe I'm in the wrong for assuming the students practice those formations? or maybe they're safer of what I think? I dunno but I mostly trust sports with my feet on the ground or in water, but maybe I'm just too afraid of heights and it's safer of what I think.
