Does anyone know how I can make this crack in the floor look better? this is for a project of mine at the end dimension by Luix_075 in Minecraft_Survival

Agree. The scale feels off and, certainly at this distance, there isn’t a depth component. My first thought was it was a comic outline for a take on a Simpson’s character head:-D

Indeed… also, at least in oil and gas, the Driller has real-time access to every critical feature. I can’t imagine a situation where this wouldn’t be the case, especially given the nature of it being on Mars:-D

Further, it doesn’t make a long of sense for it to be up on top of the ridge, unless the ice only exists close to the surface, but then they drilled well past “just past the surface.” It likely would have been better to do slant drilling from the base of the cliff… or even better (and more likely, they would do directional drilling). But, to do that you must pump a drilling fluid down to a mud motor.

Further, they couldn’t drill any significant depth without a means to get the rock cuttings out of the hole without a drilling fluid. They could use a coring bit, kind of, but that leaves another problem:

The hole would collapse in on itself without something to support the side walls. In oil & gas, this is done with special drilling fluid, often referred to as mud, and is a complicated and specialized field within the industry. Too light of weight and the hole collapses, too heavy of weight and the fluid can fracture the sidewalls, causing them to collapse.

There can be ways of drilling without a fluid, but there a lot of reasons that those would lead to a collapse of the hole and likely trapping the equipment forever.

It may be possible to use some type of air to force the rock cuttings out of the hole, but the air wouldn’t be able to support the sidewalls. Further… it’s Mars, so the extremely high volumes of high pressure air aren’t readily available.

Edit: which is to say, you are correct.

Can you take both the Ugly Hindrance and Attractive Edge? by No_Sock5806 in savageworlds

[–]scaradin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which, in that example, either taking a Weakness (if in Supers) or even a custom hindrance because this person getting hit with an EMP or out of their suit would be at a massive disadvantage.

But, in some campaigns, the person would never leave the suit and the EMP is only going to “be a problem” for a few rounds.

All I mean in this response is that a special hindrance would be applicable, but not the full litany… unless it’s a campaign where duder is spending most of their time out of their suit.

Add this one line to your normal time: “I’m thinking of exploring becoming a chiropractor, could we schedule some time to chat?”

Otherwise, I think focusing your current efforts on “what does it mean to be a chiropractor” rather than “what information do I need to know” would be better. Which is the question you asked first.

I’ve got a few trees that came down during the Texas ice storm, but feel free to fire off some specific questions. I’ll also give my $0.02 on “a day in the life of…” when I have some time.

Physical therapist at chiro office? by Leecherseeder in Chiropractic

[–]scaradin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To what end are you thinking about adding a PT?

  • them leasing space in your office
  • adding them as an associate in the practice and…
  • they have their own primary clinic, which may have overlap with your patients
  • they are a near-ubiquitous provider for your patients

Why not do your own rehab via a CA, assistant, or even a PTA?

Can I put plants and fish in here? Will they fall out over the edge? by treealiana12 in ponds

[–]scaradin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they were trolling or wrong…. But I don’t think it would be a good idea at all… very likely to fall over the edge and, even if they didn’t… these are literally food bowls and hawks, owls, raccoons, and any other neighborhood animal would relatively be able to make a meal of them.

It’s also possible these have an anti-algae coating, which would be toxic to fish and may create problems with plants.

But, you could try some plants first… just someone you won’t mind, but won’t be upset if it dies:-D

In our games: For something to be a Hindrance, it has to be a hindrance.

So, a quadriplegic character with missing arms and missing legs who is blind and deaf… but has access to Ultratech and they were placed into a fully-functioning mech that gives the characters all of those functions back would get no benefit for those hindrances.

Oh… You might to look at how Savage Rifts takes it… it’s much more like to be deadly. They have a Death and Defeat that, should you be rolling on that table, it’s not going to be good. Rough summary:

20% chance of just death 20% chance of new major hindrance 40% chance of Permanent injury 10% chance of Injury (temporary) 5% chance of Injury that goes away when all wounds are recovered 5% chance of no Injury, but another permanent change to the character to be worked out with the DM

Also, anyone who is subject to Mega Damage in Rifts (Heavy Weapon in SW) uses Gritty Damage rules (anyone without mega/heavy armor).

Also, Exteas do not automatically die. See page SWADE 96. They ate incapacitated and usually their fate is ignored, but when it matters they can survive.

We know… that’s largely just how we play. it just is never worth the time to confirm, unless the party goes and checks the body, we won’t know. So, unless the story dictates it or the players confirm the kills, we technically don’t know who did or did not, but for the extra’s, they would only matter as witnesses. Which, again depends on the story. Our SOP is to not spend the time to figure it out, unless the player mission requires no witnesses:-D

Yes, I am asking how do other GMs handle GM fiat beyond the rules as the RAW speaks in absolutes, like a Sith.

Indeed. Going purely by the book, specially page 95, an incapacitated character (by damage or injury) must make a Vigor check. This should be subject to the penalties of having 3 wounds (usually -3) and failure also means Bleeding Out and makes a vigor check each round or dies. So, on a Vigor roll, a 7 is needed to not die and an 11 is needed to Stabilize.

This can then be modified by the situation. Just like Hacking isn’t a pure “get a 4 on the roll and the world is yours” and, instead, is subject to situational modifiers… so too are these rolls. Largely, my group has chosen to not notice on high-death games, so we do it pretty vanilla. But, we have had a few “special” games where we included modifiers to these survival rolls.

I think for Heavy Weapons, we defaulted to a -4 for characters who aren’t inherently Heavy Armor. I think explosions/fire would be a stacking -2 (so a Heavy Weapon explosion would be -6). This would then be upwards of a -9 on a Vigor and almost assuredly a dead character.

SW is a bit different. For Extras, we’ve always ruled Incapacitated is Death, unless non-lethal damage was an option AND the attack was declared to be doing non-lethal damage (when either is an option).

For your bazooka example, don’t forget that weapons have trappings and those trappings mean something.

It can also depend on the type of game you are running (or are in) and some are more deadly than others. As long as the GM and the players are on the same page, you can have as lethal or forgiving a game as you want.

There are also supplemental rules which can be invoked to make play more deadly.

Another thing to keep in mind is that sometimes not dying isn’t an option. Regular human, wild card or not, who is in a sub at the bottom of the Mariana Trench and the sub has catastrophic decompression… it isn’t s 2.78% chance of survival. Dude be dead. Just like your bazooka example.

My thoughts: first doc scared you and gave you no value. Second doc address the issue, gave you the tools to help yourself, and (clearly) demonstrated the value of their expertise.

I hope more of my cohorts aspire to be the second option. I hope (even more) that more of those first types of docs find themselves being held accountable.

Let’s look back in American history.

Tell me of a time when a President has sent the military of one of its many States off to battle without:

  • a state of war
  • the consent of the governor

I am aware of none, certainly none before Lincoln. If you look a little deeper, you’ll see Lincoln did a number of unconstitutional acts. A number of acts which have never been Checked. Further, it set a strong precedent for the President to seize additional power that isn’t granted in the Constitution.

And the only thing you can even attempt to counter how absurd your comparison is and how far off base it is… is not the content of my list, but the order it is in?

But, yea, it is. In case you missed it, I was referencing to engineering-related things because you compared a janitor to an engineer. So, to be clear, this does not mean that Dolly owns an engineering firm.

Though, now that you bring it up, It would be absurd to think a musician would own a recording studio, wouldn’t it?

[–]scaradin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you this ignorant on this topic?

What would you call a janitor who

  • owns engineering firms
  • has published numerous works that engineers of every background have relied on
  • other engineers pay the janitor to put them name on a paper that the janitor ghostwrote for them
  • people in other industries use the janitor as inspiration for their professional journey
  • other janitors look to them for guidance
  • the entire engineering industry has honored for decades as an integral member of the engineering industry
  • multiple experts in the engineer industry defer to the janitor and acknowledge that the janitor has drastically changed the engineering profession

More to your example… this is the equivalent of you saying that [Michael Faraday was no scientist/engineer/chemist because he lacked formal education](en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/michael_faraday)
