What we would do is set our thermostat/timer to kick on at 1PM and cool the house to 70 degrees from 1-4 when electricity is still fairly cheap, then turn off from 4-9. At 9 if it’s cooler outside than inside we kick open the windows and put box fans in the windows to pull all the air out of the house. If it’s still hot outside we kick the AC back on for a bit.

But we did recently get a whole house fan that we use from 9PM to 7AM to really cool the house down, and that has worked really well for us so far.
