The ancient Indians would've loved to join in too but sadly they were all cremated

So that was the seasoning i stole from the ancient tombs?

It goes well on mashed potatoes.

Well yeah. They have same angular sum. Even diameter of inner circle in a square will equal its side. So from some perspective with some approximation we can say that circle is "almost" equal square

[–]GrianTeslaThank you mods, very cool! 46 points47 points  (2 children)

[–]Ty__the__guy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Correct, good job bro

[–]MightyKin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup

[–]SuperNerd06 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Not really though because one is describing the internal angles of the sides of the polygon whereas a circle doesn't have any. As such, it's more accurate to describe it as the angle of the "available" arc. Which would be 360o or 2π.

[–]MightyKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good note.

[–]Rauldhs 90 points91 points  (10 children)

"After all these years teaching you, you just did a 360° in your grammar"

[–]DONSEANOVANN 4 points5 points  (4 children)

A 360 is a full circle, so he would have ended up being in the same spot he was in before. A 180 is what you mean.

[–]W1C0B1SLives in a Van Down by the River 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Nah cuz his grammer was already shot to begin with...180 wouldve improved it

I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/memes.

It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

I did find this post that is 87.5% similar. It might be a match but I cannot be certain.

The fuck does the equal sign mean in this context?

Congruence? That would be ≅ So what does the equal sign mean?

[–]AsdfasdfasdfgameProfessional Dumbass 37 points38 points  (8 children)

the difference is a square has 4 angles, whereas a circle has only 1. so unless you figure out a way to make only one of the angles 360 degrees without making a circle or cutting (physically impossible), this statement is wrong.

[–]AnionShade 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Simple, just rotate the angle 360

[–]Freerange-Butter 31 points32 points  (1 child)

rotate the square, reeeeeaaaally fast, and it’ll become a circle

[–]AnionShade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OOOOR

bend the angle on both ends so it looks like a Z, then every angle touches every side making it 360 degrees

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That’s... the joke...

[–]The_Texidian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

y = 4x = 360

[–]Blindbru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends what you are trying to do, but since we are referencing angles yes they are equal in that there is no mathematical difference. If you change what you are looking at they potentially stop being equal.

[–]SqWR37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once’s asked my college calculus professor, if pi is a man made concept why does it never end. This is the example given, “put a round roof on a square with zero wasted space from either one”

[–]EdwinNotAFurry 29 points30 points  (19 children)

I believe the sum of internal angles have this formula

(n-2) times 180

where n is the number of sides. Thus triangles have 180, quadrilateral shapes 360, pentagons 540 and on and on.

[–]SeXY_F1sH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds about right.

[–]Pandamonium231 1 point2 points  (17 children)

Wait... How the fuck does a circle work in this formula? (1-2)x180 right? So -180°... We did it Bois, maths is no more!

[–]Beaky_Sneaky_Unlike 11 points12 points  (11 children)

Who said circle is a polygon bro?

[–]Pandamonium231 3 points4 points  (10 children)

Is it a monogon?

[–]Pongminhttps://www.youtube.com/watch/dQw4w9WgXcQ 9 points10 points  (9 children)

its a circle

[–]Pandamonium231 -3 points-2 points  (8 children)

But ovals are also single-sided shapes no? So why would there be terms for multisided shapes (polygons, or even quadrilaterals etc) but not single sided?

[–]Pongminhttps://www.youtube.com/watch/dQw4w9WgXcQ 7 points8 points  (6 children)

The difference between polygons and ovals is that polygons have a finite number of line segments, becuz a circle is curved, it does not have a line segment and that makes it not a polygon.

[–]BlueRed20 -2 points-1 points  (5 children)

So do semicircles have one or two sides?

[–]PingPongPlayer12Bisexy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Two, a line segment and a curved segment

[–]GoatOPlenty 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I believe the formula for the circumference of a circle is 2 pi r

[–]IMightBeAHamster 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They're using the formula u/EdwinNotAFurry just gave, which is for the sum of the internal angles of a polygon.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"All these squares make a circle...All these squares make a circle..."

"HOW DID ALL THESE SQUARES MAKE A CIRCLE?! AND WHY'S THIS ONE STILL GREEN?!"

[–]VaderCOD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man i over analyzed this so bad, but here is why transitive property works: Rectangle internal angles = 360 degrees Circle internal angles = 360 degrees Therefore: Rectangle internal angles = circle internal angle

[–]DaDiamondArmorPlays MineCraft and not FortNite 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is wrong, since in the square you're measuring the sum of internal angles, meanwhile in the circle you're measuring the angle it makes in the center.

It's impossible to measure the sum on internal angles in a circle, because there are no vertices to make angles on the circle.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was far too dumb to get this at first but this comment really helped, thank you

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a repost

[–]IMightBeAHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking the formula for the sum of internal angles, ∑(aº) = 180(n-2) with aº being the degree of one internal angle, and n being the number of sides of the polygon, you can then say that since a circle is either an infinity-sided polygon, or a 0 sided polygon, then the sum of the angles is either ∞º or, -360º. Since -360º results in the same rotation as 360º it is therefore not completely ridiculous to say, that a circle's internal angles add up to 360º.

That last part isn't true, I'm doing a bit, the formula isn't meant to be used for shapes below 3 sides.

[–]Colester2653Lives in a Van Down by the River -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What’s funny is the interior angles don’t represent that properly. I was actually bored in class and made an equation to represent the distance from if you were to be walking along one line and turn to go to the next. Every turn until you get to the beginning line.

Equation: (180-[(n-2)180/n])n = 360

Keep in mind this works for if n is anything but 0.

[–]5Heat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False

[–]hashtaglolshotChungus Among Us 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Crap sorry they don’t. I meant exterior angles.

[–]evil-eves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No

[–]SuperNerd06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that they're not even describing the same property. One is describing the internal angles of the square and the other is describing the arc angle of the circle. Circles don't have any internal angles.

[–]AdventurousExternal9 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yooo I was the 666 upvote

[–]EternalErkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take a square and a circle of equal length/diameter, 1 side of the square will be exactly 25% of the circles perimeter, with all 4 sides making the circle whole. Since this is true, it stands to reason that the angles in the square would also enter into the circle, which is why both have a total of 360 degrees

[–]imaculat_indecision 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Don't all angles of a complete shape add up to 360 tho

[–]Blindbru 1 point2 points  (1 child)

No just circles and squares. Triangles are 180, pentagram are 540 for example.

[–]YoungCareerPros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the angles you measure are drawn from the center point of the shape to the tip (out angle) of each side. Then those innermost angles will add up to 360.

[–]ultimaIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favourite format easily. I can picture them in my head actually moving.

[–]BigDaddy_Satan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, he kinda right tho

[–]IonPurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not wrong, to be fair, although non-Euclidean geometry should apply.

[–]errdayimshuffln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the first statement is true, then the second statement is false. If the angles we are measuring are the angles between two line segments, then the circle does not give 360. It contains no straight line segments and no angles. A single line segment equal in length to the side of the square would give 360. Not a circle.

[–]Noobwitha_HatGigaChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eat it, minecraft

[–]HtmlLoser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I know it’s a joke) that would be two right angles therefore not being 360 degrees so it is sadly not a circle😔

[–]hesmistersun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works for any shape if you use outside angles (how far you have to rotate to go from one side to the next) rather than inside angles. For a square, the inside angles happen to equal the outside angles (both are 90°).
