I don’t even care if it’s paid or unpaid. Just two days to stay home and not have to get ripped into from our managers for calling out if it’s really bad.
I get really bad period symptoms the first 2 days. I woke up this morning and dreaded going into work. I was extremely lethargic, my cramps were 10/10 awful, I had a headache, I was moody and very anxious (my anxiety spikes on my period). But I did what I had to do and went into work, cause I have no choice and need $$$$$. But I was absolutely miserable and even found myself wanting to cry at work for literally no reason (yay period!) and it was the busiest I’ve ever seen the place. But I didn’t of course. Put on a happy face and pretended I wasn’t in pain, feeling sick, or ready to lay on the ground and pass out at any moment.
This is how it feels every single time I have to go into work during the first 2 days of my period. and I know sooo many women who have really bad period symptoms to the point where simply getting out of bed is a struggle, let alone having to go into work and do whatever it is they’re doing for 8+ hours.
So as I was holding on by a thread today, I was just thinking about how amazing it would be if women had the option of taking a day or 2 off from work during their ladies weeks (if they feel like they really need to), without facing any possible repercussions.
Sure, we could “call out sick,” but every job I’ve ever worked, calling out sick even once pisses off the managers. No matter why you’re calling out. At least this way we wouldn’t have to worry about getting into trouble.
Now I know in the grand scheme of things, this idea is probably flawed due to some women using “period day” as an excuse to not work even if they aren’t on their period. But ehh. This is how I feel today so I’m sticking with it 😅
