I used to work at a restaurant, and one of our servers was obsessed with Star Wars. Like, if you knew nothing about this dude, you knew he loved Star Wars. This restaurant was relatively close to a film studio and one day Mark Hamill came in for lunch. Said server would not be in until about 3 pm and he missed him. Someone in the kitchen told him about it and he was sad but what do you do?

So, it's after the dinner rush and he's wrapping cutlery at the server station and the hostess comes up and says "you've got a visitor" and it's Mark Hamill. His server at lunch had told him about this huge star wars fan, so he came by during a shooting break to sign an autograph or two and take some pictures and give him some sweet swag.

Mark Hamill is good people.

Thanks for the awards folks, happy to share a positive story.

These are the stories you love to hear.

[–]udontknowmuch 635 points636 points  (18 children)

Yeah, this story is a like a warm hug

[–]b00tyg00se 1170 points1171 points 2& 2 more (16 children)

More like a lukewarm hug.

[–]LukewarmHugs 324 points325 points  (4 children)

Understandable.

[–]b00tyg00se 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Username checks out

[–]unzaftig 477 points478 points  (6 children)

I bet this is that guy's story he tells at parties for the rest of his life. That's so frickin cool.

[–]RogerDeanVenture 206 points207 points  (2 children)

Yeah man, Mark Hamill came back just to see him specifically. Thats cool.

[–]notmyrealusernamme 143 points144 points  (1 child)

Mark Hamill is on that level with Bill Murray, where he has accomplished all his main quests and is giving himself super wholesome side quests just to give people stories that their friends will never believe.

[–]SeattleBattles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've never really wanted to be famous. But it must be really cool to be able to bring people so much joy from such simple gestures.

[–]BurnerAccount209 450 points451 points  (19 children)

In this story Mark Hamill actually inconvenienced himself just to make that guys day. What an awesome dude and a great story.

[–]notinsanescientist 333 points334 points  (16 children)

I mean, if I had the power to randomly inconvenience myself for 15 minutes daily, without it costing me anything but time, but making someone happy beyond belief, fuck yeah sign me up.

[–]xchadrickx 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Today is the best day to start trying!

[–]pdxrunner82 60 points61 points  (4 children)

I am going to copy and paste this to remind myself to be a better husband and father. Thank you. I might leave out the “fuck yeah” part but the rest is perfect. Well said

[–]notinsanescientist 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Your comment actually made me realize I can do better, reading stuff I write, even if it is for my pets, even better if for my SO. Thank you!

[–]Sparcrypt 70 points71 points  (1 child)

Something you can tell about Hamill which is shockingly rare in Hollywood is that he really seems to know how insanely lucky he is. Star Wars was just another space opera when he was cast but through dozens of amazing coincidences and incredible people happening to be working on it, we got something special.

I’ve even seen interviews with him where he says that he isn’t “Luke Skywalker”, that Luke is something far bigger than that and he was just lucky enough to represent him for a while.

Super humble and awesome dude from everything I’ve ever read or seen about him.

[–]Master-Shake- 123 points124 points  (4 children)

This is a great story. I love being happy for other people.

[–]onlyonerule 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Me, too! Here's a quote I love:

"We should manage joy in the exact opposite way that we manage money. We should spend it all, at every chance we get."

-Ingrid Fetell Lee, author of Joyful: The surprising power of ordinary things to create extraordinary happiness

[–]Trust-Me-Im-Killbot 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You deserve it too, shake! It's coming!

This always helps me feel happy :)

[–]p0tat0cheep 55 points56 points  (1 child)

Okay I’m actually gonna cry. That is too perfect.

[–]prof_dynamite 1964 points1965 points  (81 children)

Pretty sure Mark Hamill is one of the greatest people on earth.

[–]Disco_Ninjas 277 points278 points  (24 children)

Tell that to Batman.

Edit: I stand corrected. Even Batman thinks he is worthy.

[–]arcose 35 points36 points  (7 children)

I was also the toymaker in the flash show

[–]DrDisastor 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Mark is one of the best villian voice actors ever. I hear his gravely snarl everywhere in different shades and it warms my heart to hear his passion.

[–]quiznotch 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Even when he did Skips on the Regular Show he had that snarl to him when he was ticked off. Love Mr. Hamill

[–]EEpromChip 88 points89 points  (25 children)

I am glad you put one of, because Dolly Parton is pretty up there....

[–]afeeney 61 points62 points  (23 children)

Them and Yo-Yo Ma, Rick Steves, Mark Hamill, Keanu Reeves, Betty White -- we must protect them all!

[–]AGallonOfKY 44 points45 points  (4 children)

2 chains is actually pretty good guy too. Not a fan of his music but it's nice to see people that get money, put money back into their community.

[–]stanleythemanley420 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah 2 chains is honestly a nice af dude. Met him backstage a couple years ago and he was offering us drinks and joints lol.

[–]willowfeather8633 34 points35 points  (10 children)

What I wouldn’t pay to have a movie with Mark and Keanu.

[–]RumPullForceKin 29 points30 points  (1 child)

The buddy road trip comedy no one knew they wanted until now.

[–]TransportationDry732 578 points579 points  (17 children)

You are never too old for Mark Hamill.

[–]SkyShazad 145 points146 points  (13 children)

Are you saying That Mark Hammil is Luke Skywalker??? That kind of talk can lead you to the Darkside

[–]PapaBear1718 44 points45 points  (5 children)

Don’t listen to them, they’re spreading propaganda

[–]Aesthetics_Supernal 30 points31 points  (4 children)

They aren’t very effective.

More like amateurpaganda

[–]DarkStarStorm 145 points146 points  (1 child)

Luke Skywalker was 💔

[–]TheSirMontyPython 29 points30 points  (0 children)

His hand was shaking so much he was so excited to see Mark Hamill show up with a lightsabre.

[–]PooBurgerz 3479 points3480 points  (232 children)

Watch the video. Adam's hand was shaking.

[–]unwantedposterboy 2758 points2759 points  (53 children)

His voice was shaking too.

Pretty sure he was trying not to full out cry on TV in front of Mark Hamill.

[–]Manarang8 1566 points1567 points 2 (30 children)

"I told Pierce a thousand times, I never wanted to meet Levar Burton Mark Hamill in person! I only wanted a picture!"

[–]Able_Butterscotch358 37 points38 points  (1 child)

[–]Diem-Perdidi 78 points79 points  (5 children)

I love understanding all of the Community references I keep seeing in unrelated subs, because now I've finally got round to watching it :D

[–]SolarTsunami 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Just within the last few months I got around to watching the Lord of the Rings movies, which was awesome, but also it turns out I have in fact seem them all... just in meme form.

[–]YourWizardInHell 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Haha, im watching through the whole show again, i saw this episode like 2 days ago

[–]FartIntoMyButt 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Me too! Well I just finished a rewatch. Season Four is not as bad as I remember. And I love Frankie more than I realized.

[–]4Ever2Thee 496 points497 points  (5 children)

That's awesome. I love seeing a star get starstruck

[–]SlobMarley13 287 points288 points  (2 children)

I'm sure Adam was enjoying the hell out of that moment but the whole time his face is saying "hold it together, Adam"

[–]19nwt5t9 43 points44 points  (1 child)

So awesome . His enjoying the moment . Hamillmazing!

[–]Mirewen15 75 points76 points  (0 children)

His eyes were definitely tearing up. Which made mine tear up.

[–]desireresortlover 92 points93 points  (60 children)

How are there so many downvotes on that YouTube video?!? Who doesn’t like Star Wars?

You're not normal. You're way better than that.

[–]NamesArentEverything 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Star Wars music intensifies

[–]groucho_barks 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I've seen it a few times but it still gets me. He is so genuinely full of joy and awe.

[–]Illustrious-Phase-48 52 points53 points  (2 children)

Can you imagine being so insanely popular that people literally cry when they meet you? That has to be the most amazing and awkward feeling in the world for someone like Hamill. Especially considering that his fan base has essentially double in the last decade.

[–]Sexy_Squid89 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I teared up too ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ

[–]NotMyHersheyBar 58 points59 points  (32 children)

the next vid that came up was Kristen orchestrating a promposal for two Frozen nerds and it's adorable.

[–]JohnnyPlainview 85 points86 points  (30 children)

https://youtu.be/0z9CabJqIMM

Holy forking shirtballs that was adorable! I knew Kristen was awesome but damn she should have her own show.

[–]Moglorosh 79 points80 points  (15 children)

Give her Ellen's slot.

[–]Dvthisbitch 71 points72 points  (6 children)

Kristen Bell is the good person that Ellen pretends to be

[–]ThomasVivaldi 22 points23 points  (4 children)

Ellen started out a good person but was corrupted by the dark side.

[–]Inevitable_Citron 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I don't know. She's been a bit of a prima donna for a long time. As she got bigger she got even more entitled and even more dismissive of underlings.

[–]puckthefolice1312 36 points37 points  (3 children)

I'm pretty sure Kristen is straight, and wouldn't want to have anything to do with Ellen's slot.

[–]Moglorosh 23 points24 points  (1 child)

I fuckin knew as soon as I submitted the comment that this would happen, and I left it there anyway.

[–]puckthefolice1312 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry dude, couldn't resist it.

[–]Octogenarian 21 points22 points  (5 children)

She would guest host and practically co-host with Craig Ferguson alot. She is just delightful.

[–]howigottomemphis 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Right?! She nailed that, and there were so many chances for it to go wrong. She really is amazingly talented, and just so forking likable!

[–]FUPaladin11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She and Dax have a new game show together: Family Game Fight. Hopefully, that scratches the itch for a while?

[–]4Ever2Thee 78 points79 points  (11 children)

I might actually watch the show if she was hosting all the time

[–]Resfebermpls 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Seriously, Kristen Bell is a national treasure.

[–]anomalia_temporalis 22 points23 points  (9 children)

She should get her own show 🤔

[–]dephyre 16 points17 points  (4 children)

Her and Dax Shepherd just had the first episode of their new show Family Game Fight! on Hulu on Sunday.

[–]kingmanic 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I think they both mentioned avoiding having intense commitments at the same time so they can make sure their kids are taken care of. On their podcasts. So games shows they'd do but not being leads on a tv shows.

[–]falls_asleep_reading 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Her I would stay up to watch.

Not a big fan of the current crop of late night hosts. Last one I liked was Ferguson.

[–]Farkerisme 165 points166 points  (8 children)

Da real MVP. Thanks for the pic and link

Edit: full on goosebumps

[–]legion327 44 points45 points  (7 children)

Seriously, Mark Hamill is a national world treasure for all mankind.

[–]experiment1224 35 points36 points  (4 children)

I recently (over several years) got my wife into Star Wars. Somewhere along the line my wife found out she is distantly related to Mark Hamill. Sadly, I doubt that he will ever find out he is distantly related to her....

[–]Farkerisme 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Have you tried tweeting him?

[–]experiment1224 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Wouldn't even know what to say! He's kind of one of my heroes as well lol

[–]soapbutt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy how even to another celebrity, he has this mysticism around him because he was part of something almost every kid has watched growing up.

[–]CollarZealousideal26 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Damn that got me. That's awesome thank you.

[–]DirtyBirdDawg 27 points28 points  (1 child)

Okay, I cried watching that. Damn, Mark Hamill is the fucking man.

[–]SlobMarley13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"I'm sorry I missed your birthday"

[–]badson100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen this clip many times, and I tear up every freaking time.

[–]Automatic__Nomad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This was really nice. You could see his genuine emotions here.

[–]mdhunter99 923 points924 points  (23 children)

In the interview Adam said he wasn’t crushed that Mark missed his birthday, he knew that Mark had other things to worry about.

[–]Caedro 170 points171 points  (9 children)

Those super markets aren’t gonna open themselves.

[–]OhDearOdette 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Dude this made me so happy thank you

[–]AustinTreeLover 233 points234 points  (5 children)

Y’all. That made me cry.

[–]jujubadvoodoo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Everytime is like the first time, absolute wholesome dopamine injection.

[–]NotEstevez 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Mark Hamill is on Reddit, he just posted the picture on his IG.

Oh, hi Mark!

[–]ZiOnIsNeXtLeBrOn 138 points139 points  (14 children)

Mark Hamill also voiced one of the greatest Joker ever. Go watch the scene with the Joker and the IRS. It is super funny

[–]jojocookiedough 41 points42 points  (9 children)

He voiced the villain in the Ghibli Castle in the Sky dub. He was terrifying.

[–]Grayscape 57 points58 points  (6 children)

He also voiced Firelord Ozai in Avatar the Last Airbender. Man is an amazing villan Voice actor.

[–]mikeballs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was shocked when I finally watched the credit reel long enough to realize he was Ozai!!! He killed it!

[–]SomeTool 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Also the hobgoblin from the 90s Spider-man cartoon.

[–]DimesOHoolihan 1316 points1317 points  (59 children)

Mark Hamill is a national fucking treasure and we must protect him at all costs.

[–]ultratunaman 530 points531 points  (15 children)

National treasure?

He transcends any one nation.

He is a world treasure.

Little secret: he shows up on reddit sometimes. Whisper his name and you might hear a Joker laugh in the distance.

[–]DimesOHoolihan 168 points169 points  (3 children)

If Mark Hamill floated by me on reddit my life would be complete.

Mark Hamill

[–]myspace-2 28 points29 points  (1 child)

hi i’m not mark hamill but ill float by too

[–]WhatYouLeaveBehind 55 points56 points  (0 children)

He doesn't have a nation, he is one with the force and the force is with him

[–]Ambrosia_the_Greek 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Mark Hamill Mark Hamill Mark Hamill

[–]WhoIsYerWan 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Hey man...America has been pretty rough these past few years. Let us have one thing we're good at! We made at least one Mark Hamill. Success!!

[–]MisforMisanthrope 55 points56 points  (13 children)

His Joker will always be the One True Joker.

[–]T_RannySwaurez_Wrex 33 points34 points  (1 child)

It’s not even that I grew up with him as the joker in the cartoons that makes this true. His voice acting just fills that character to the brim with “joker”. The laugh, the voice inflections, everything, they’re just a perfect fit.

[–]_LususNaturae_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've never really cared much for Star Wars, but god is his Joker voice perfect

[–]anomalia_temporalis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Breaking News: Nicholas Cage sequesters Mark Hamill

[–]Varvara-Sidorovna 5 points6 points  (1 child)

National treasure?

Nah. He is an intergalactic treasure.

[–]Travisoc 468 points469 points  (28 children)

Never knew Adam was a child prodigy, writing letters at the age of two!!

[–]KillionMatriarch 370 points371 points  (18 children)

Probably more like 8. The Empire Strikes Back was 1980. Adam was born in 1973. To be fair, he said his second birthday party - not his second birthday.

[–]RoboticPanda77 130 points131 points  (6 children)

Looked it up, his birthday is in April and ESB released in May so 7 probably. That likely means the first "birthday party" he had was turning 6 which seems reasonable

[–]CrabOIneffableWisdom 60 points61 points  (4 children)

he definitely said second but I'm almost positive he misspoke and meant to say "seventh"

[–]RoboticPanda77 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's also very believable

[–]SuperRoby 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Then whoever wrote the captions in this image did not quote verbatim, reading "When I was two" was very misleading (and confusing, lol)

[–]CrabOIneffableWisdom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Seventh" He would have turned 7 right before ESB came out and I'm almost positive he misspoke and mixed up second/seventh

[–]StarDewbie 101 points102 points  (3 children)

Yeah, but I mean, everyone hearing "Second birthday party" will think it was his 2 year-old birthday party.

[–]animalwitch 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Thats what Kristen assumed too. I thought it would have been an older kids birthday the way he was describing how he felt and that he could remember - i dont think he would have been able to remember that if he was 2 lol

[–]KillionMatriarch 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sure - definitely the go-to interpretation

[–]BroDameron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe he meant second grade? Either way. Wonderful stuff

[–]RustyShackledord 94 points95 points  (4 children)

He said 2nd birthday but I bet he meant second grade birthday party.

[–]Gelby4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It'd be funny if at the end it said 'dictated, but not read, Adam"

[–]apk5005 101 points102 points  (21 children)

In one breath I feel bad for Mark Hamill because he’ll always be “Luke Skywalker” despite his wide, varied body of work.

But then, I also respect Mark Hamill for really accepting the fandom and “duty” of being Luke Skywalker. I can’t see Harrison Ford doing something like this as Han or Indy…

[–]SentinelMain 49 points50 points  (8 children)

Doesn’t Harrison Ford kind of hate the connections to Indy and Han nowadays?

I remember seeing some clips of him being a bit short tempered when dealing with fans lol

Fwiw I’m not hating on the guy.I couldn’t handle being that instantly recognizable icon

[–]EdwardM1230 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think that actually really suits Han’s character

[–]catsnbears 26 points27 points  (2 children)

He’s been filming the new Indiana Jones near me and he seemed to be enjoying himself posing and waving at the local kids in full Indy costume. Maybe he’s got past it now.

[–]SentinelMain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

And now that I’m thinking back on it at least one of those clips I feel like the person who approached him was like, TMZ or some shit and I can absolutely understand why Harrison would be rude to those people lol

[–]RonStopable08 14 points15 points  (3 children)

“Who cares?”

-Harrison Ford when asked who shot first, Quibo or Han.

[–]EarthVSFlyingSaucers 24 points25 points  (3 children)

I mean, if you gotta be known for only a single role, you cant do much better than Luke motherfucking Skywalker.

He was an idol for thousands of kids growing up that span multiple decades. That in and of itself is a lot of responsibility.

[–]LocalInactivist 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We don’t deserve Mark Hamill. How often does your childhood hero turn out to be a legit good person?

[–]CharlieBrown20XD6 94 points95 points  (3 children)

Adam Scott would have made a great imperial douche bag lol

[–]OpiFox628 57 points58 points  (4 children)

I had an interview like 10 years ago, and I was asked the question: “If you could have dinner with 3 people, living or dead, who would they be and why?” This is a question I’ll always think about. Stories like this make me have 0 guilt or hesitation about one of my choices being Mark Hamil.

[–]DMMMOM 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What I love about Mark Hamill is that he truly knows the sheer joy he brings people. I've loved this guy since 1977, he is a fucking hero. He saved the galaxy!

[–]SasquatchTracks99 83 points84 points  (2 children)

This is the best thing I've seen today.

[–]DidItForButter 16 points17 points  (1 child)

He made that dumb surprised face.

[–]EarthVSFlyingSaucers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced he wasn’t acting on parks and rec. I think he just wandered on the set and they just filmed him.

ROCK THAT SCOOBER!

slaps butt

Sorry. I’m sorry.

[–]KnowledgeIsDangerous 30 points31 points  (6 children)

This is hilarious and super wholesome but I'm actually curious. Adam Scott is no small fry, couldn't he just have his people call up Mark's people and ask for a meet up?

Though judging by Adam's reaction he might actually be so modest as to think he isn't worthy of taking up his hero's time.

[–]Baricuda 37 points38 points  (3 children)

For a proposed project or show? Absolutely. For a personal meet up? I wouldn't think so. Most celebrities are pretty busy people so getting time to hang out for something that isn't for publicity or money would be a tough sell.

[–]KnowledgeIsDangerous 16 points17 points  (2 children)

That actually makes a lot of sense.

I'm somewhat reclusive myself so giving up my personal time is a tough choice, even when it's for people I already know and love.

And I'm not even a celebrity. Just about the whole world loves Mark Hamill.

[–]freehouse_throwaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah dont forget that to Adam, Mark Hamill was the star he grew up watching.

might have been a bit tacky just to hit him up thru connection just to say "omg i've been the biggest since fan since i was 7"

[–]harsha29o7[S] 219 points220 points  (35 children)

Any Parks and Rec fans here??

[–]adjectivebear 155 points156 points  (6 children)

Clearly Ben Wyatt was played by Ben Wyatt

[–]Moglorosh 59 points60 points  (5 children)

Ben Wyatt: Human Disaster

[–]EarthVSFlyingSaucers 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Would a depressed person make THIS!?

[–]Puma_Sneeze 11 points12 points  (2 children)

AND HOW CAN IT NOT BE LONGER?!?! Genuinely my favorite scene of the entire show.

[–]getsuga_tenshu 43 points44 points  (7 children)

Calzones arre the best, they're like pies.

[–]OnlySpoilers 22 points23 points  (4 children)

Pizza? Never heard of it 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]CationicHaddock 5 points6 points  (3 children)

The scene when they get sick from the mini calzones is one of my favorites

[–]OctopusPudding 8 points9 points  (2 children)

That and his claymation feature length film are up there for me

[–]SuaveMofo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just to add one more hit: "I'm feeding your eagle, he's starving"

[–]redmoon714 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“I compared it to avatar”

[–]The_EOC 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. Adam Scott is just Ben Wyatt in real life

[–]animalwitch 15 points16 points  (0 children)
